<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I think Stoner is just a bit like Lawson ..... there's a brief few words by Lawson in that Video Faster in which he described how he used to feel when he got second.
Its just how competitive folk get ....... the only thing is the "anti-stoner brigade" are attempting to cash in on it by declaring him a whinger whenever he says something there grandmother wouldn't like. Stoner is trying to be PC ..... but I don't think he's very good at it
I find it fun .... certainly a pleasant change compared to the years we've had for a while now where it seemed everybody was turning up for the fairy princess party.
I quote Vince Lombardi (again)
"Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser".
I think Vale who is the 100% master of the sport has won the minds of most of the field who are happy to come second to him, ergo, they are good losers.
Casey is pissed off about coming second just as much as Vale is pissed off to come second and this is a battle heating up, Vale believes this is his year and he has the package but has to fight for it, Casey can ride but now he in turn has to fight. I hope someone slips an angry pill in Dani’s drink and three of them go at it, but it is going to be great just with these two.
Even as a Casey fan I can say that coming second to Vale like this is so good for him.
The Lawson quote is pertinent as in that era a lot of riders were winning races, there was good opposition to the championship winning rider whoever it was and none of them got it as easy as Vale has. The lack of a good fight in motogp has as much, if not more to do with Vale as Casey. The fact is that the rest of the field are prepared to make excuses for not beating either of them. Listen to a podium where Dani wins and Casey and Vale are in the minor positions, both will tell you it wasn’t good enough and next race they will be seeking to improve this. They are actually “competing” - this is profound given the acquiescence of the field in the last 5 years.
Valentino has only had one championship in the motogp era where he didn’t win the most races and he and Casey are even in wins at present this year.
I’m looking at this a renaissance of racing.
Love it.
