You could swap the red bike for a Yamaha and put a well known multiple world champion in the role of the winner and it would only be a re-run of multiple overtakes by said rider.
Imo MM is correct about the staying on the track part, which he didn’t do at Jerez 2012, or probably at Assen 2025 without using an opposing rider as a berm. I see your Jerez 2012 and Assen 2015 and raise you Jerez 2005 which Jerez 2012 re-created, and Laguna Seca 2008 which was more a lose saved by going off track, but was far more potentially dangerous. I am sure there are others by both riders concerned, if MM has pondered on this and come to a different conclusion since 2015 then so be it however. Obviously he should hold himself to the same standard going forward. He won’t complain if it is done to him because he doesn’t.
That said I agree Bastianini was faster at the end of the race, and settling for second and a 20 point gain on Bagnaia rather than risking injury or scoring no points contesting for first would have been the sounder action strategically imo.
