How does Casey go about beating Rossi now...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Jul 23 2008, 12:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I don't think however he or any other serious competitor should be affraid to question Rossi's behaviour and i wont judge him for being a bit worked up at the end of a race (which he lost) and being in a mood. I think its good for the sport for him to talk straight and voice his opinions, if we condem moments like this we'll end up with the stale atmosphere of an F1 press conference.
That's the problem though Tom, that people think there WAS a problem with his behavior. There was no ........ out there, everyone agrees it was a clean race. If anything I agree with you that he should have just been pissed he lost, but translating that into no handshake, and complaining about the very fabric of what racing is about is where he crossed the line.
F1 press lineups are a bunch of guys that believe their own hype, acting like prima dona's. To me, Stoner played INTO that role by complaining. If he had just said to Rossi (while shaking his hand) "jesus man, that was ...... nuts"...."but i'll get you next time" his respect level would have gone up 10 fold. Instead Casey played right into Rossi's hands.....Did you see Loris complain after Mugello in 06....??

Casey didn't seemt to agree, that being that case he should not just pretend it was fun and wave and smile.

i took it as that for sure. kinda like "ya, ok rossi. we'll see at the next race"

you know. people hate mladin. he IS an ........ but you can't take away from the guy's talent. i remember last year at barber when he won the first race. ben tried to congradulate him, and mladin wouldn't shake his hand. rather, he practically punched ben instead. was weird, and i'm sure ben was like FU. BUT, ben sure has learned a thing or two from matt, which has made him a better rider.

guess all i'm saying here is. you don't have to like the guy. hell, hate 'em. but its hard to dispute the talent. and sometimes, it takes arrogance to get to the top.

rossi has his own arrogance about him. he's just more likeable all the way around. and when he ..... with people, he does it with a smile. in most cases, that gets on peoples nerves more than someone just being an ........ like ... "what, me worry" attitude.

i like rossi. the guy is a phenom. unbelieable talent, and chrarisma. but i like stoner too, for different reasons. FINALLY. freakin finally someone has stepped up to the plate and offered a challenge. it's about damn time. everyone to this point has cowered at rossi's feat. enough damnit. it can't go one way all the time. and this back and forth is freakin awesome!!!

we'll see wont we. The popularity contest is already over because Rossi is established and smarter with his arrogance than Casey, but in riding its far from settled.

I think people underestimate Stoner. I am sure that is just fine with him.

I think what is commonly percieved as arrogance is a quality common to almost all racers, and i love it.

Let me put it this way. If after the unusual excellence of the laguna seca race they decide to transfer all 7 of the remaining races to laguna seca, rossi will definitely finish the season ahead of casey stoner, possibly by 25 points. But dani pedrosa will win the world championship

This would undoubtedly cost him his ducati contract, but hell honda would probably hire him, despite all he said about them in one of his earlier excursions into bloody-mindedness.

Certainly common to most if not all who win, no matter how well they hide it.

That's the point. He should have expected hard racing. Allowing himself to think that every race will be polite and powder puff is quite frankly idiotic on his part.

racers in this era have gotten a bit soft IMO

As the bikes get more even and the racing gets closer this kind of racing will happen more and more.

this is no popularity contest, this is Moto GP!

The handshake has been a sporting gesture in almost every sport for many many years. After that he can say whatever he wants and cry like a baby.
