MotoGP: 2024 Round 2 Grande Prémio Tissot de Portugal

Seeing lots of articles and social media posts about Maverick being the first rider to achieve a win with three different manufacturers. Am I taking crazy pills or did everyone forget about Lawson & Mamola? or is this like in English football where changing the competition's name means all records prior rebranding are erased from the collective consciousness?
Most records sited are based on 500cc/MotoGP from 1949 despite there been world championships prior to WW2. It does sound like they are only including MotoGP and that's OK providing they state that.

We'll never know. With time to properly get the tires up to temperature and a few more laps, he could potentially have placed higher in quali.
A fair bet he would have qualified higher imo.

Probably didn’t make much difference, a mistake in the race when he was if anything making time on Bagnaia and had passed Vinales is what confined him to second, although I guess he may not have been pushing so hard or even have been in the lead had he started from a better position.

So MM has won 6 titles, the same as Valentino Rossi ?.

Ah you haven't stated the period/era

Rossi has won more 500cc world championships than MM. As ridiculous as this statement is, its actually correct
I was joking, I watched the races. My point was that if they start mucking around with what really constitutes the premier class in gp bike racing it might have unforeseen consequences. That Valentino won on a 500 2 stroke gp bike is to his great credit of course, although they were perhaps less diabolically dangerous in 2000 and 2001 than they had been in former years. On the other hand he won in 2002 on a bike which was literally in a different class to the rest of the field.

Out of nowhere comes Maverick. In typical form. Perhaps he'll get another good result soon? 🤷‍♂️

The race between Martin and Marc was fun. They both race hard so as expected, no complaint from either. This is the new standard anyway, with a lot more aggressive wheel to wheel racing over the last 3yrs which escalated a bit with the sprint format.

I wonder if Honda will stick it out for the whole season if things do not turn around ?
I'm not panicking so far. The concessions are meant to play out over the course of the season, not right at the start.
Did M Marquez's off during qualifying result in a lower qualifying spot?
Definitely. He was on course to set the best time when he crashed and on his final lap lost two tenths in the final sector.

Pedro is amazing! What I like most about him is he makes smart pass attempts. He is the opposite of Marc in that aspect. Marc sees a hole and takes it. Pedro plans out his passes with surgical precision. When they don't work they don't cost either rider much time. He has ridden this way his entire career so far.

Frantisek took Marc out and I'm sure the Red Mafia will find a way to blame Marc.
You know they will. 100% on Prosecco. Its things like this that will cost him a title this year. He doesn't know how to bring home a mediocre result.
