2024 MotoGP Round 10: Monster Energy British Grand Prix - Silverstone Circuit

The first few races of this season in Moto GP had excellent racing. The best racing of any top tier motorsport. So I think this talk about how bad aero is getting is a bit overdone

If you evaluate MotoGP aero through the lens of auto racing (aero makes close racing and overtaking impossible), then yes, complaints are overblown.

If aero is deemed a multi-billion dollar deadweight loss imposed upon a contracting industry that also occasionally creates a wake that pulls race bikes off of the track, the problems with aero have scarcely been realized. Manufacturers, consumers, and race teams have barely begun to waste money developing/repairing superfluous bodywork.

Decent race thanks to Bastianini dropping to 4th place early in the race. It took him longer than I thought to find his way to the front, and he needed a bit of help from Martin, but Enea got the job done. Pecco must have been sweating in 3rd place with Jorge in first, but Enea bailed him out.

The GP24 was unstoppable at Silverstone. Shame that Morbidelli threw away his weekend by colliding with Bezzecchi yesterday. He might have notched another 4th place or maybe better. Marquez did yeoman's work on the GP23, but he didn't have the pace. Diggia in the top 5 ahead of Espargaro is a pretty excellent result. Ducati locked out the top-5.

Lots of talk about manufacturers taking a step this weekend, but Ducati were the only manufacturer that seemed to progress. KTM, Yamaha, and Honda have gone backwards. Aprilia is holding station, though Mav had a poor performance at a track that should suit his style.

The Bagnaia-Martin show marches on. Maybe Bastianini can make it interesting. He's not too far out of the running.

Awesome performance over the whole weekend by Bastianini. I wouldn't mind him mounting a late charge for the championship. Frantisek finished his tire and finished just half a second ahead of washed Marc. One more lap and he would've caught him.
The race was OK I thought though I was disappointed Aprilia once again had nothing for Ducati on a track that supposedly suits them

And Moto2 put on an awesome race again. Jake with a well-deserved win in front of the home crowd and for once the Boscoscuros where the ones struggling with the exception of Sergio. Ai drops from pole to 14th, Garcia charges from 16th to 4th.

Darryn Binder rode most likely the most impressive race of his lifetime.

The Yamaha livery is fantastic on its own, but the team uniforms and rider leathers have taken it to the next level.
Only things missing in the liveries this week were "Marlboro" and "Lucky Strike."

I can't help but think it is a shame things went the way they did with the seats that were available with Ducati.
I always felt Enea could shine. Not gonna lie, I kind of wish Enea had another year with the factory and Marc would have a GP25 at Gresini.

I agree. If he has found the formula to maintain the correct pace and save the tire for the end the way he does. The rest better look out.
I really hope this week was not a one-off as far as Enea's qualifying goes.

Overchuffed for Dixon. That was a magnificent ride!
Never heard "overchuffed" before but I'll agree. I've always been a prick where Dixon is concerned but today he was awesome. Weird how Canet just got slow the last lap or two. It's almost as if somebody.......somewhere.....really, really wanted a Brit to win at home. I mean, it couldn't have been scripted any better. (adjusts tin-foil hat). 🤣
Outside of Dixon, ride of the day goes to Garcia. Kid is talented. Rooting for Joe Roberts is exasperating.

Bastainini's 37 points was 24 more than M Marquez which has moved Bastainini up into 3rd position, demoting MM. This puts Bastainini 49 points behind championship leader Martin with 10 rounds left

Just watched the moto2. It shat on the motogp race from a great height. ;)
Much more bike movement, much more overtaking, less processional tyre management. Better all round.
Personally I thought the races were moderately similar. Bagnaia didn't drop back through the field as much as Ogura, and there was no recovery through the field to match Garcia. So, on the balance I'd say that the Moto2 race was more interesting. But, not a light and day difference.

Fair enough. I am anti ride height and aero it makes it harder to overtake it seems to me. Perhaps that influenced my opinion.
It did seem there was more sliding and overtaking in the moto2 to me.

I found this snippet interesting:

The spec of the engine used by Marini differs to other Honda riders.

“Mir, we have the same. Zarco, we have different ones,” he explained.

“Zarco’s engine is more powerful, more horsepower, more speed on the straight. But it’s difficult to ride and I don’t like it.

“For me, for the development of the bike in the future, it is not the right way.
Luca Marini misses out on much-needed point due to post-race tyre pressure penalty

Mav still suffering from foot in mouth syndrome

To be fair, everything is taken out of context these days. Quotes are practically fabricated, but this article uses block quotes to leave remarks in their original context. Despite his age, it does seem that Mav can still be knocked on his backside by a feather.
Good time for Aprilia to put a rev limiter on that bike a little lower.

Both Aprilia and KTM appear to have dropped back. Personally I think that Ducati have just moved even further forward. The Ducati GP23 was a very good bike, but the GP24 appears superb. E.g. Espargaro's comments on how it looks after the tyres excellently.

Tbh, it doesn’t seem like Mav said anything outrageous. For sure, he is not a diplomat. I think it is normal to try and figure out why you are slower. Ducati obviously one step ahead.

Aprilia and KTM better step up, otherwise it will be a somewhat monotonous Ducati parade next year.
