MotoGP: 2024 Round 2 Grande Prémio Tissot de Portugal

Welcome to Honda, Marini!!
He's currently last in FP2. 2nd race in and it looks like his confidence is destroyed. I recall after Valencia he was upbeat and everyone was placing him to beat Mir this season....

FP2 results. Marc had a lowside at turn 5 on his final run. Looks like he just snatched the brake and tired tipping it in and lost the rear. He seemed happy and was laughing and joking when he got back to the box. So I suspect he knew why the crash happened, and is happy that he still seems quick this weekend.

Lots of crashes towards the end. Morbidelli, Marini (same corner), Espargaro, Marquez, Vinales.

Grea tlaps by the Yamaha duo to get into Q2 last minute.

Well Marc is really coming together with the Ducati so far it seems, and I don't think we've seen the best yet from him on the GP23.

Tomorrow is going to be a really interesting day with FP3, qualifying, and then the sprint race itself.

MM93 looking very confident, both KTM's looked very good (Jack needs a good result), Sprint race could be interesting, but I have a feeling that its going to be Bagnaia on Sunday.

It's interesting how different the results are in low grip and high grip conditions. Perhaps some of the riders are not giving their all in a nonscoring practice with green track conditions, but certain riders move to the top in those conditions.....several of whom (e.g. Vinales and Morbidelli) could be on their way out.

Oliveira is nowhere. He's not been getting on with the Aprilia, and since he was taken out at his home grand prix last year, it seems like he's off the pace most of the time.

I honestly think Ducati have already made their decision on the second rider for 2025. Don't see Enea surviving the cut.
Curious as to who you think it is. I say its still between Marc and Jorge. I completely agree about Enea its still great to see him doing well. I'd love it if he consistently out preformed Jorge and Pecco.

I think they want Marc on the factory bike.

I know we've got a long season and we're only at race weekend number 2. If you're Tardozzi and Gigi, watching Marc performing on a year old bike when everyone thought he was going to be off the pace due to lack of data, you have to be considering the possibilities of Marc on the factory bike. I think Jorge's hissy fit near the end of last season wasn't a good look for his chances. Now don't get me wrong I think Jorge is going to remain in the running regardless but if Marc is right up there by him on the GP23 when he's got the GP24, I don't see him getting the factory seat. He has to decisively outperform MM because he has the newest machine, and I don't think that's going to happen. Hence my earlier comment I think Ducati already knows.

Plus from a marketing standpoint, it's Marc. Just getting the 8-times world champion on a Ducati, albeit satellite team was a huge PR boost. "We make bikes so good that even the 8-times world champion will take our previous year's bike just to be on our bike."

I also think Marc is a little .... (laughingly) who plays games to .... with everyone from the riders to the media to the fans about what his actual capabilities are. Not convinced Jorge can handle the pressure especially if the standings turn into a dog fight between him and Marc.

But those are just my ramblings.

I agree with all this and hope for the same. Plus I think Jorge wants to be the #1 guy somewhere. Most likely yamaha I think

Yes, I would also love to see Aprilia and Oliviera with some results.
Marquez: master sandbagger doing the groundwork. He will stay mum until he has a good result then will act surprised.
Oliveira about like Vinales, got to have everything just about perfect to get a great result.

I also think Ducati would prefer not to have an egomaniac on their factory bike if they can help it. I actually think a team of Pecco and Marc would be far more balanced in energy than one with Pecco and Jorge. I think garage dynamics do matter with the way a team like Ducati operate.

One thing I wouldn’t expect iis for Ducati Corse outside of Gigi’ to make sensible man management decisions. The main smart thing they have done in their entire time in motogp is to hire Gigi, and to some extent perhaps listen to his advice over rider choices in his latter years with them. Otherwise their management of riders has been pretty disastrous imo, sending Melandri to a shrink and blaming Stoner for the deficiencies of their bike being 2 examples.

Awesome! The beast on pole with the human road block in between him and the other ducs. Martin looks like he is about to have a huge off every corner. He is flirting with disaster.

Yeah I like what I'm seeing from Marc. Dude is feeling well again and that's when he's getting dangerous.
Maverick with a mistake-free job, if he can get a good start he'll be in the mix tomorrow but he usually blows it when he starts out front.

Frantisek not so perfetto today.

Well the sprint race was cracking.

Pecco with a massive error under braking going into turn 1 cost him that race. Maverick rode well shockingly, thought he was going to give up P1 to Martin, but he held on well. Marc was outstanding starting from P8. That overtake on Martin was spectacular. I have no doubt underneath his helmet, Martin was seething over that one. He wanted to run his mouth before the season, he had his first chance to stamp his authority down and couldn't do it. Jack Miller excels at going backwards as usual.

The main event should be quite good. I think Pecco is the favorite for the race, but maybe Enea will be in the fight for the podium.
