I "got on" quite well enough in dentistry until I retired 5 years ago at age 44, thank you.Casey had a riding style that meshed with his particular Ducati. Good for him. Vale's style did not mesh with the Ducati he was served. Good for Casey. If you want to judge Rossi by what he did in his 30's, let's take a glance at Stoner's results at that age. Oh wait....:(

Hey pal, it was you rather than me who with a rather high degree of irrelevance introduced comparative IQs/academic records to a thread on a motogp forum concerning the most recent motogp race, and assumed your credentials exceeded mine.

I have already said that Stoner imo lacked what it took, both in terms of motivation, and likelihood of remaining sufficiently healthy given his extreme riding style, to succeed into his mid to late 30s as Rossi has. Of course, part of his motivational problem would seem to have been a belief that Dorna was not desirous of, and perhaps prepared to thwart, a Rossi- or Doohan (his idol)-like run of success from him, even for the factory Honda team. Matters were likely more complicated than this, but I can understand why he formed that view, and as I have previously said to Jumkie it is a truism that being paranoid doesn't necessarily imply that everyone isn't after you.

Like Gaz I have a prejudice in favour of Stoner due to reasons which could be considered to be shallowly patriotic, but also like others purely enjoyed how he rode, particularly at PI, with that spectacular riding style. I have no problem with acknowledging Valentino's remarkable achievements, but do take issue with Rossi partisans of your ilk attributing bike advantages to Stoner.

Stoner influence? On MotoGP
I enjoy all these guys suddenly discovering Flat tracking deep into their road race careers. And going going to some guy's "ranch" and desperately trying to get their bike move around for the cameras. Or doing saddo display races on pissy little tracks.
My enjoyment is increased by thinking that a prepubescent Casey would hand them their arses.

What a dummy, picking' around in peeps yaps until you were 44... Much cooler to be a graphic designer and retire to paradise at 40....

The problem isn't that SNS existed, tiered tyres were around in the form of A and B spec Michelins in the late 80s. Early 500 Doohan was a "victim" of the B tyres for a while
The issue was that fans were fed a load of ........ about the likes of Rossi's amazing WUP performances after "finding something overnight".

(yeah yeah, I've said this before, but deliberate opaqueness from those who boost the sport ..... me)

He even now "finds something overnight"; it's that he's never been particularly swift in finding the best setup, neither with Burgess nor afterwards.

Any WUP times to support that (seriously)?
Because I am a believer in his ability to put together the whole race. One of Doohan's strengths.

In any case, my point is, i don't recall (please correct me) much ado from the journos etc about who got what in that era. Elias pipping Rossi was viewed as some sort of theft, while the majority of the pack copped inferior tyres and received little menition, nor sympathy.
Now it's easy for thicky commentators to bang on about who ran what, they even put pretty stripes on the tyres to help them.

Don't forget that Elias' win in Portugal 06 (the Theft you refer to) was arguably acheived because he was given Pedrosa's discarded SNS's.

It's only a problem when Rossi gets shafted by something. Then the outrage starts building.

No, it wasn't.
Another poster politely asked me, "So just how ....... stupid are you actually?"

I merely answered his question with the facts ( as I'm so prone to do). And that's "Dr. Thumpa" to you, boy. ;)

For the record, I'm not a lifelong Rossi fan, nor did I jump on any bandwagon at his peak of success. My brother was a GP fan for years, while I stuck to MX. I got interested when Nicky made the jump, and really didn't start watching every race until Nicky's title run. At that point I was very anti-Rossi. I eventually became a fan because I simply appreciated his talents - or maybe I just like to root for the underdog.

On a different note, have their been any comments from Burgess since Rossi's newfound success? Rossi was panned for dumping him, but Burgess was quite vocal about Rossi just not having it anymore. We know who proved right in that regard.

I think to be fair Burgess has been more concerned with caring for his sick wife than worrying about whether Rossi was right or wrong...

Burgess has been sincere saying he felt that Rossi could not win anymore after 2010; I must say I felt the same as Burgess. That's the only reason he was replaced. Now he of course he admits he was wrong.

Elias beat Rossi because Rossi had finished his tires -- there was no other reason (Rossi was faster than Elias as long as his tires lasted) and surely he didn't complain about Elias going for it. He did complain about Elias taking him out of the first race that year -- that was the real key as it costed 25 solid points.

JB has been pretty quiet recently, j4.
I've not seen an admission. Can you point us to one?

(I'm not doubting that V needed a change, amd it definitely seems a change for the better, but I'd genuinely like to read some commentary from JB. The man is a legend. )

Can u imagine if during the SNS Era they branded the tires with say....a yellow stripe to indicate the good stuff?
