On I-10 yea.
This sequence of turns is essentially a chicane (sorta) designed to slow the riders going into the final straight. Not a classic chicane, but you have to cut back to go into the final straight. It's similar to the last chicane in Assen, though the other way and not as tight. I'm sure the riders view it as a passing opportunity, again just like Assen, where we've seen fireworks and often it's expected.

Certainly this move is obviously more acceptable against rival manufacturers, not recommended for teammates, but my feeling (again for the sake of discussion) is should the move be automatically dismissed?

(Devil's advocate, etc)

He made the decision to fire it up there as soon as the last lap started. AD knew it was coming and protected the line. It may not have looked like it because of the room on the inside but that bit of track was dirtier than motochica's vajayjay. Did you see the end of moto3 bro?

I agree it was not malicious/cynical and Iannone himself thought he had a chance of pulling the move off, but he did seem to come from a long way back. I would put it as others have into the category of that other move where ambition outweighed talent, and a certain pass Dani Pedrosa attempted in 2006, with the dynamic between the 2 riders involved somewhat similar to the latter pass, with in both cases the rider taken out ahead in the championship and the offending rider perhaps trying to assert primacy in the team. Dovi would have been 1 point off the lead in the championship in a matter of yards, but this was at least the second race of the season rather than the 2nd or 3rd last. As someone on David Emmett's site said Ducati has probably partly engineered the situation, with Stoner's involvement and talk of Jorge Lorenzo, as Iannone likely was operating on the assumption there is only one spot next year which he was not guaranteed.

Interesting for me was the light shone on late season events last year. Rossi apparently complained about the rather robust pass Iannone made on him yet apparently MM was obliged to attempt such a pass, or what would more likely have to have been a pass more resembling the attempted pass on Dovi, at Valencia 2015. If MM was being at all circumspect at the end of the PI race I have always thought it more likely his concern was Iannone rather than anything to do with Rossi or Lorenzo, and JL directly said he didn't contest the lead on the last lap at PI 2015 because he thought it was Iannone who was coming up on him.

The other thing is that despite looking good as the season progressed last year and riding with more discretion than had previously been his wont Iannone seems to have fairly completely derailed since his involvement in support of Rossi's conspiracy theory last year, having now not finished the next 4 races after the podium at PI, said podium as Povol and David Emmett have both said ironically being what really cost VR at PI 2015 rather than anything Lorenzo or MM did.

Hilarious bro. Albino Rabbit.

I actually like Tito Rabbit. I feel sorry he is struggling so much, but only few aliens can do really well as soon as they move up to GP. Hopefully he becomes competitive before he gets kicked out.

If he has sponsorship he might get a reprieve for a while.

Toni Elias survived for quite some time in spite of getting kicked down to Moto2.

apart from the Jorge comment thats hilarious :giggle:

I reckon even knowing that was so, they would have been speculating on what tactical advantages MM would gain by being allowed to change first. The possibilities were endless.

Exactly, short pitting can really play to your advantage sometimes when you are on fresh rubber for a lap or two, plus, i believe Rossi could have only stayed out one lap more.

As it happens, my sister took delivery of a Tesla S today which I will be interested to try. It has some ridiculous 0 to 100kph time because of the flat torque curve.
Saw the Tesla S in the dark.

Quite a cool looking device, particularly the unobtrusive top performance setting on the LCD display on the dash which is, quite without fanfare in normal characters, "INSANE". I am told there is a further performance upgrade available with which the top setting is "LUBRICIOUS".

Brother-in-law tells me on the basis of brief experience that his current physiology can't cope even momentarily with anything like full acceleration, which forced him and his passengers back in their seats.
