He lets go, it's a non-event. He kept hanging on to the bike and even got his leg back over the left side. You call it a freak accident, I call it a case of not knowing when to cut your losses.

Not the same as the tank slapper at Mugello.

Hindsight is 20/20. Regardless of how long Marco held on and fought, it was not likely that the bike would cut back across the track.

Physics, as long as the tires were still contacting the ground leaned over to the right, the bike would cut over.

Then you should be able to provide me with many examples of riders attempting to save lowsides that ended with the bike cutting back across the track.

If the rider exceeded the limit of traction and ends up in a lowside, it's highly unlikely the tires will find enough traction to cut back across the track at a sharp angle.

Definitely seems plausible that the engines were over-revving. But the thing I'd like to know is if any other bikes were having the rear wheel come off the ground, and if not, why was Yamaha the only one to experience that?

I have a theory I'd like to discuss here. Krops said on his site and showing that photo I linked earlier was that one issue was the rear wheel going higher than the front wheel over that hump. So, I personally think the winglets might have contributed to this as they did their job of keeping the front down, too well in fact, but were powerless on the back. It's funny that this was the first year Yamaha ran the wings at Mugello and they grenaded two engines.

I can't imagine he isn't actually wishing he was on track.

I'm sure he does. However to get on the track he has to do a whole lot of .... that he wouldnt want to, and doesn't miss one little bit.

I would go for a glitch as the explanation J4rn0.

Your posts are very much at the lower end for stridency on here. Did you make any reference that could be construed by an automatic programme as a product being advertised?

If there is a script trying to catch advertisment related strings here, it evidently doesn't work given the amount of spam this forum gets.
Btw my post has not appeared yet.
Oh well. Censorship is what was missing to make this place eminently forgettable I suppose. :)

Actually it has something to do with certain links being used or repeating characters. I posted about this in budoist's topic where he was complaining about being unable to post his usual race weekend thread.

There was a post I couldn't make because the image link had something that was catching the spam filter, and when I uploaded the image to a image hosting website, then used that link, the post went up.

TEST -- to check if messages are really held for moderator's approval...

...funny, my previous post was held and then doesn't appear here.

Is this a joke? :)

Yep, Same thing happened to me trying to reply in the MM JL effigy burning thread.
Started a thread in feedback you might like to ask Duc where your post went in there. I have.
Daniboy I have replied in the above thread just to check if it was something in my text that stopped the reply,
Apparently not as it appeared fine:(

You ....... better bow down and recognize Valentino of House Rossi, First of his name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm. He is the one true king of Westeros and rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Rossi haters (aka traitors!) will bend the knee or be destroyed.

Hahaha, Vudu, this was actually a funny post. Probably your best post to date.

And I agree, great analogy. Which means people's lives are actually ruined by power and politics.

... It'd be hard to not think that when you see all of the .... things Rossi has done in his career, culminating with using his bike as a weapon against a fellow rider last year. While it is no doubt amusing to you, try not to forget what happened to Marco Simoncelli because he couldn't recognize that grand prix motorcycle racing is not a game by any stretch of the imagination.

I agree that Rossi was not mindful of the danger he put Marquez (an others) in while his true self was exposed when he lashed out, especially at a track where Marco Simoncelli was killed. It really is unbelievable that this aspect of Rossi's actions at Sepang have been so easily glossed over, actually the contrary, he is made out the victim.

However, I disagree that Simoncelli's death was anybody's fault. As I said before, it was a freak accident. Marco trying to save it was a simple reflex reaction that all riders do in similar circumstance. Simoncelli lost the front not torpedoing another rider, and we will never know if the podium he had just achieved the previous race may have affected him in a positive similar way we see Marquez now harnessing his exuberance. Personally, I like to think it had. I lament Marco Simoncelli's death. It's an awful consequence of an activity with unpredictable unimaginable consequences in sometimes the least expected circumstances.

The fact it was a freak unpredictable accident makes what Rossi did at Sepang all that more indefensible! I find it rich that Vudu and Daniboy would object to your rationale of Sic's accident, given they are taking the side that the 'death' of the rider at 'Sepang' was a result of a bizarre twist on what 'normally' was a harmless crash. These are the two guys who represents millions around the world, including J4rn0, who think Rossi's deliberately crash of Marquez was of no risk to the man's life because 'it was slow'. They argue it's absurd to characterize Rossi attack as 'violent' and 'life-threatening'. They just can't imagine the possibility at Sepang for Marquez wilst in the same breath arguing Simoncelli's death was a freak accident? Fascinating!

The perversion has reached the stratosphere.

I think we'll always disagree about Simoncelli's death, the cause of it rather. Freak accident? To me a freak accident is more Wayne Rainey at Misano winding up paralyzed because of how he hit the gravel trap. Simoncelli tried to ride it out, and at that angle, he was only ever going to go right. It wasn't like he was in the process of standing the bike up before Edwards and Rossi hit him. And it's easy to label what I'm saying as hindsight, but to continue riding the bike out across the racing line at such a low speed when half the field still has yet to come through was horrific judgment on his part. I think he expected everyone to avoid him. He was heading towards the grass on the right side and if he got there, he'd still have had to let go of the bike and get it upright, then get a push start. The bike was gone, it was never being stood up again without the help of the marshals. The only blessing of that entire accident was no one else was seriously injured or killed as well.

Either way, the result sucked. I was thinking during the closing laps of the race in Mugello that, "Wouldn't it have been awesome for GP if Simoncelli was riding against Marquez and Lorenzo right now?" Seriously, imagine how great GP would be right now if Simoncelli was still riding? The entire dynamic of the sport would have been changed to have a 4th rider of equal talent to the top riders. I still feel we are missing that one rider to mix up the top a bit more. Too bad Stoner has to be such a bitch.

Anyway, agreed regarding the last paragraph. Rossi learned nothing from plowing into Simoncelli to have done what he did to Marquez at the same circuit no less. People have a selective memory about how easily riders can get injured or worse from seemingly benign crashes. I've been pretty consistent on arguing against dangerous riding whether it was Marquez, or Rossi, or whomever else. Speed is irrelevant to it because a dangerous move no matter the speed can kill another rider. Rossi shouldn't even be riding now as we type this because in a more fair sport, he should have been given a 6 month ban from the sport for what he did at Sepang 2015.

Still waiting to hear about tear-down results on the M1. Was mentioned by Kropo that the factory M1s were revving several hundred RPM higher than the satellite bikes. Anybody heard anything?

I reckon Kevin Magee got it right - 'I've seen things like that before and I think it is an electrical problem...................................the connecting rod has probably gone through the alternator...."

What is released will be a fluff piece, not the facts

There have been several theories why the M1 grenaded, my theory is they stretched it out and turned up the wick too much at Mugello, trading longevity for power to compete on the straight. The Yamahas seemed to have extraordinary acceleration. I think they viewed Ducati as their main rival for the win.

Content Warning: Look ....... (.)(.)

I tend to fall into the 'over-revving due to turning up the wick and then having the rear leave the ground at the hump causing further over rev' circle (and the wheel of the ground was not expected of course)

But I am not mechanical so have nfi genuinely but it would make sense that by turning up the wick a little, .... hit the fan

As has been confirmed, T3 do not have the same upper rev limit and thus were not at risk

Well, either that or Marquez did something to the bike
