MotoGP riders now face fines for delivering offensive hand gestures on track, as part of a new crackdown.

Between the San Marino and Aragon Grands Prix, riders were emailed and told that they would be fined by governing body the FIM.

It follows a prolonged exchange between Valentino Rossi and Suzuki's Aleix Espargaro during practice at Misano.

Impeded by Espargaro, Rossi slowed to ride alongside the Suzuki, gesticulating, even along the main straight after Espargaro entered the pits.

Rossi finished the move by raising his middle finger at Espargaro, one of the moves set to be eradicated.

"You're not allowed to stick fingers up, ...... signs, nothing," said Cal Crutchlow, who joked that it would send him "bankrupt".

"We got an email last week. I'm disappointed with that rule change.

"It adds a little bit of spice. I liked what Rossi did at Misano, why not?

"At the end of the day, it's what you feel at the time.

"It's no different to live TV [commentators] saying it, is it? I like it."

The LCR Honda rider conceded he could understand the move to a point, noting "we don't want to bring a load of bad stuff into the sport".

Rossi agreed with that notion, but felt Espargaro was more in the wrong at Misano.

"Espagaro did a big mistake because he stayed on the line," the Italian said.

"When I was running into him he said to me, '.... you!'

"My mistake is that I do like this [raises middle finger], but apart from that I was right 100%.

"When I do this [repeats gesture] maybe I exaggerate a little bit, so it's right you can't do like this.

"But from the other side, when one rider is on the track he has to keep attention to the other one; if not, it's not fair, and it's a lot worse [than hand gestures]."

The fun police .... next they will want all the riders at the completion of each race to hug while they sing kumbaya in unison and wear a rainbow sash.

Riders say tires lose grip after 3 laps. Everyone's woried, saying they won't last more than 15 laps.
We just saw Rossi's rear after cca 20mins of FP4. Chunks are just flying of.
Yamaha seems to have tons of issues.

In other news...A. Lowes will be a race time decision.

More news.....papa Abraham is rumored to bring some money to the table for Aspar (I might have heard wrong, but there was talking about aspar before our commentators said it) and push his son back to GP racing.

Oh yes, please turn MotoGP into tennis! #sarcasm
It is too polite as it is sometimes.

MM simply untouchable in Q2. Outstanding performance.

MM, MV, and JL round out the front row.

Crashy Crutchlow is back.

Should be retrospectively applied to the 79 British GP.

What a ....... load of ....... ......
Can't talk about tyres. Can't show emotion.

Entirely cynically; does Dorna really think this will be good for the ca$h side of the business? Idiots.

Long winded way of saying no flipping birds which every major sport has a rule for. No big deal.

Marquez is unfucking real. Hope he rides a smart race tomorrow. He has the pace to ride almost casually and at the same time force competitors to push the edge. I would love to see a few more wins this year so we dont have to listen to the Yellow hoard degrade his championship. This weekend could go a long way towards gaining a lot of the points he has lost over the last 4 races.

Fair play if he wins the championship, there'll be no caveat at all , it would be nice to see the points tighten up a bit though, it would make the title race more enjoyable.

Tyres are going to be important tomorrow so it's really hard to predict what will happen. Obviously Marquez has the pace to manage the race and tyres so is a clear favourite and will be hard to stop. Im hoping for a Marquez win and a great battle for the podium, Lorenzo will struggle by the sounds of it with the way he is talking about tyres. Marquez could effectively end the championship this weekend.

Even the michelin mediums are rock hard. Tomorrow will be another case of tyre management and "strategy ........" and who gets the best tyre lottery draw.

Marc's lap was pretty special. Where the .... are the others? Lorenzo is still thinking of Ducati and his tapas, pedrosa can't qualify, the only bloke who looks half decent is Maverick.

If Marc stays on he should win it. He would be the deserved champ this yr like Lorenzo last year, most consistent and fastest overall.

lovin lorenzos piss take helmet

With all the whinging and bitching that goes on in the sport, it's nice to see some sportsmanship

Unfortunately shaunna, A.Asparagus said this after...

Marquez fell at Turn 14 a few moments after Nicky Hayden had done the same, as Hayden's bike was being retrieved from the run-off area.

Espargaro's brother Pol had fallen there at that exact moment as well, and subsequent replays indicated that the Tech 3 rider had been taken out by Marquez, who was passing him on the inside of the corner.

Marquez's bike slid past Hayden's Marc VDS machine in the run-off, while Espargaro's ended up colliding with the American's Honda - albeit not before track workers and Hayden himself had jumped away from the site.

Having qualified eighth, Aleix Espargaro said that he was especially careful under yellows after Marquez's FP3 mistake.

"On my last lap, it was yellow flags in corner 1 and corner 13, I think, Cal [Crutchlow] and Dani [Pedrosa]'s crashes," said the Suzuki rider.

"And after what happened with Marc this morning, I decided automatically to brake a little bit early."

Asked to elaborate, Aleix Espargaro said: "When it's a yellow flag on the track, you need to brake a little bit earlier - because it means there's marshals and somebody on the floor.

"He [Marquez] crashed, so for sure he braked too late. The bike almost hit the bike and Nicky, he [Marquez] hit my brother - this can happen, no problem.

"But the thing is, when it's yellow flag, you cannot crash. It can be persons working on the track and, very easy, if the bike hits them, you can kill them. Very easy.

"And it's not the first time - it was the same problem at Silverstone two years ago, we were very lucky. Second time, very lucky. I hope there's not going to be a third time."

The Suzuki rider was referring to an incident in Sunday warm-up at Silverstone in 2013, when Marquez was awarded for penalty points for crashing in the Vale corner, where marshals were already attending to Crutchlow.

"You just need to brake one metre early and that's it. I f**k up my qualifying but I think it's better than other things."

Marquez crash under yellow flags risked lives - Espargaro

It's said there was oil on the track hence Marquez going down in the same manner as Hayden. Nicky lucked out because he nearly got hit by Pol's bike sliding down the escape road.

Serious here Dani (not criticising as i see this often) but why is the points differential a determining factor in whether a title race is enjoyable or not?

I understand that to many, if their rider is closer to the front it makes the title chase more enjoyable for them as a fan, but I struggle to see how it can determine overall enjoyment given that it a rider is 100 points in front it is because they had ridden that much better.

Besides, even when there are large points disparities the racing is still often sublime plus you always have battles in terms of championship placing throughout (top team mate, top rookie, the 2016 Mundialito etc).
