QATAR 2012: RACE

I don't think that you can blame Spies' chassis on his poor performance. He was laying down the lap times in practice, easily in the top 4, until he binned it. I don't understand why, in warm up, when he knew he had a major problem he didn't hop on his spare bike that hadn't been trashed. Or was that the bike he trashed on his second crash? Poor weekend all around for everyone on that team.

I never had him on the podium, who are you guys? Never predicted Hayden & Barbera fiasco, whatever that means? I had hope for improved performance, whats wrong with that?

Only 1 race winner.......Re-Run? Did you miss it, Stoner didn't win, Jorge did, Dani came second. Order somewhat different to last year.......Stoner beaten on his favorite track, looking good for a decent season of racing, but most people are miffed at the Rossi situation and are discussing it.......not just gossip-fact as well

Gossip? really for Rossi only, so explain all of the talk on stoner's arm pump then........?

So why does anyone else turn up then?

Spies & Frame & Yamaha ?

Stoner & Chatter & Tyres & Honda ?

CRT's?

Marquez Pass?

No Gossip here then?

No need to point out there was only one winner, i said re-run as a referance to last year in general. Stoner running first With Jorge and Dani waiting for mistakes/issues.

You guys as in Rossi fans, Stoner detractors....in general. On Friday you were talking about race set up, hard tires, Nicky and Barberá will be behind on qualy etc tec....am i right or not?

Only justifying Stoner's arm pump because Gossip queens are saying otherwise.

Was resuming, didn't feel the need to type the names of the whole grid and or bikes.

Spies frame, Stoner chatter and Marquez pass. I've been trying to talk about this crap in the first place but some utterly stupid comments drive me in the other direction. Just like you stating that rossi is the most talked about rider then neglecting his gosspiness.

From Crash.net:

Most riders who suffer with arm pump drop well off the pace by seconds and some even pull in to the pits. I guess Stoner is super human and his arm pump only cost him a couple of tenths a lap

Pull the other one, just admit you screwed up and did not use the practice to do a race distance people will think more of you as a racer.

<

Completely agree. Stoner excuses just as much as Rossi. Lorenzo and Pedro are by far the most honest top riders on the grid.

Stowner has owned Rossi since he came into the sport.

I believe that makes it.

And its gotten pretty psychological too. There have been several of these videos now, and each a fail. Rossi is trying to desperately compare his skills to Stowner.

Given the low quality of his dirt riding though, I would suggest it is actually meant to appease the "flock" ( boppers ) who would have absolutely no idea, and would merely identify that "oh look Rossi is on dirt" therefore he is a dirt rider.

thought that was a very interesting race, but there were some surprises. Stoner's bad luck was definitely something to revel in for Jorge, if Stoner had been fitter, I was thinking another boring run away victory was on the cards. I'm still confused with his reluctance to do more laps in practice, or was he sandbagging because he knew he had a problem before the race?

Enjoyed watching Cal and Dovi keeping up with each other, they both have much potential, and hope to see more of it throughout the season because they know that they are fighting for one ride next year. Tech3 have really turned full circle from the crap they gave Ellison, top privateer team, and I seriously want them to beat the factory Dukes. I do however have one reservation with Bradley Smith, think he really has to get back to winning ways this year to really deserve the seat.

Bradl was pretty impressive, read that he said it was really hard ride.

Hayden beating Rossi again is not something I had expected, Rossi looked really pissed off after the race. Why hasn't Rossi managed to do what he did with developing the Yamaha, is it the man or is it the machine? He's thirty-three now and as my Mum says, MotoGP is a young mans' game.

Was shocked to see Spies drop so quickly but he too blamed chatter and felt like he had "knobblies on the bike". Couldn't have been in good shape after getting kicked off the bike and being dragged behind. If Cal and Dovi can coninue, as they did, then it could be Ben having to find another ride as well

Missed that story -- where'd it appear?

Some Julian Ryder gossip on Eurosport broadcast. Something along the lines of [paraphrase] and Ben is a bit sensitive about the people he has around him and rumor has it that his side of the Yamaha garage has gone a bit cold[/paraphrase]

His remarks were to that effect. That Ben's happiness level within the team and within the Yamaha GP organization are more compromised this year than last year.

Not hard to believe since Jarvis basically called him out in public for under-performing last season.

Hahahahahaha

Best post Ive read in a while Curve

What a fantastic race.....Congrats to JLo as he was best on the day and deserved that win, but to the haters - write Stoner off at your peril.

Casey was obviously the quickest of the three front runners until he was hampered by some sort of problem with about 8 laps to go. Some people obviously prefer to believe Stoners problem was a tire issue and point to his lack of full race simulations during testing and practice as the likely culprit....yet all three podium finishers have categorically stated the tires actually gained grip as the race wore on so his performance drop off must be due to another factor....the "excuse" he issued at the press conference that he had arm pump might possibly have some truth to it after all - what a suprise!

The big news for me from this weekend, however, was the lacklustre performance of both Ben Spies and Valentino Rossi.

Spies result was very dissapointing...if he had chassis problems with his number one bike due to a practice crash, as has been reported, surely that would have been identified in warm up and the problem rectified before the race. I hope he hits back at Jerez or his season is already in jeopardy of spiralling out of control. This is probably his last season on a premium ride if he doesnt get the results expected of him....especially after Bradls excellent first showing and the predicted entry of Marquez into the Premiere class next year. Primo seats will be hard to come by.

Now for the GOAT (Gone Off A Tad)....Rossi's performance was without doubt the worst of his career and one of the worst I have seen from any racer - especially coming from a rider with such pedigree. It was damning not because he finished the race in a lonely 10th place, but due to his obvious lack of effort and his scathing post race comments blaming Ducati for ALL of his current woes. When his comments are viewed under the microscope they are quite a revealing expose of his present state of mind and it seems that after a year of dismal performances littered with a multitude of poor excuses things are now finally coming to a head.

The past year has delivered some perspective on the claims he can ride or adapt to any motorcycle he throws a leg over. We have been privvy to a remarkable scientific experiment played out in front of the entire world - take the supposed Greatest Of All Time and place him upon the bike credited with more wins in the 800cc era than any other bike (after all it was the bike who won all those races, not the rider - correct?) and surely you have a recipe for instant success. Especially when the previous rider was "not pushing hard enough", and any inherent problems with the bike could be "fixed in 80 seconds". I mean after all he was competing against a "bunch of ......."....should be piss easy right? Well the results of this failed experiment are in and the analysis in the clear light of day is bleak. The words Rossi and GOAT should never again be uttered in the same sentence.

On the other side of the Ducati garage "the wall" has come down in more ways than one and what we see is in stark contrast to Rossi's side. Nicky Hayden can hold his head high...he looked unhappy about his 6th place finish (as all competitive racers should) but he was battling all race long and gave Ducati his all the entire weekend. Rossi needs to take a long hard look at Haydens work ethic and never say die attitude - the results he has achieved so far this year in testing and at this first race are commendable. He is demonstrating to Ducati that they surely must retain his services for the future.

Bottom line - Rossi your performance this race weekend was a disgrace. I dont know how you could in good conscience continue to recieve the highest salary in the entire MotoGP paddock given the return on investment Ducati and its sponsors are currently receiving. Over the years he has been burdened by the unrealistic weight of expectation that his fan base has heaped upon him and to his own detriment I think he actually believed much of the hype that surrounded him. Every single one of those criticisms that Rossi and his zealots previously directed at ALL of his competitors has been turned around and amplified by his sub par performances on the Ducati. Every iteration of the bike he has "developed" has been an abject failure.

2012 might just be the straw that broke the GOATs back and things look to be heading for a bitter divorce before years end. Time waits for no man.

As a huge fan of Nicky I don't want to see him on that POS Ducati, so that he can hope to fight with the satellite bikes, no thanks. He came in front of Bautista, Bradl, and Barbera, not exactly world beaters. Sadly he will always tow the company line, the bike is more than a second off the pace of the other factory bikes. He said the bike is better but comparing times from last year it still looks like crap.

No doubt the Ducati is a flawed motorcycle....but what are the alternatives?

The fact of the matter is that only three guys at present realistically have a shot at the title barring mishap or injuries....no one is to blame for this scenario. CS, JL & DP are seriously talented racers and the other guys are having a hard time keeping up....they deservedly occupy three of the four slots that give you a realistic chance of winning the championship. That means that the other potential title winning bike is up for grabs if Spies under performs on it again this year. If that ride becomes available at the end of this season would you sign Marquez or Hayden to fill that slot?

Nicky has shown Ducati loyalty and if they eventually do sort out the bike I would hope they return that loyalty and he retains his ride on what amounts to one of the six factory prototypes that curently occupy the grid. Better than downgrading to sat bike, CRT or skulking off to SBK I reckon.

Hayden can be justifiably proud of his efforts at Ducati so far - other riders who have endured similar hardship at Ducati over a much shorter time frame have simply given up. I think he is finally getting some recognition for his ongoing hard work and humility. At this stage of proceedings he deserves his ride far more than his overpaid and under performing team mate. Hopefully Ducati can refine their package to where it is competitive with Yam/Hon as it does seem to have more potential than the GP11. Go Nicky.

I do however have one reservation with Bradley Smith, think he really has to get back to winning ways this year to really deserve the seat.

Exactly what I think.

After his first crash they couldn't get his spare bike running due to some electrical b/s. Maybe they couldn't fix it at all, no idea. But anyway, welcome to the one bike rule - next year we might see a number of situations like that.

Btw, I think Nicky should try to land a sat Honda seat for next year.
