Its hard to get a handle on Rossi. When Lorenzo is fast, or Marquez is fast (which is about.. all the time) you can see it. On the other hand, all weekend Rossi's had just middling pace with the one or two odd decent laps.
And just when you start to accept that he's getting old (even though qualifying sessions were never a particular strength of his) he pulls off a lightning lap with two minutes to go; becoming the only rider to break into the 1:43s.
Race after race (with a few exceptions) the story repeats. You got to wonder, what does he do rest of the weekend?
- Is he sandbagging for the crowd? Or maybe his opponents?
- Does Uccio slip him a little bit of cocaine come crunch time (maybe the straw on the 'Monster bottle' goes under his helmet and into his nose; side-effects may include crotch tugging)?
- Or is his team just that good at setting up the bike.... but require four full sessions of rider & bike data?
