This is the real Valentino Rossi we are now seeing. It took him realizing and being unable to prevent his 8th title --this 9-times or 10th title .... needs to .... off since MM is referred too as a double world champion and JL a triple world champion-- from slipping away because he simply wasn't fast enough, for all of this to finally come out on a much larger, and much uglier scale.
He lost control of the narrative, and the mask slipped completely.
The hardest thing for any athlete to accept is their time has passed.
But now imagine being "the anointed one" and suddenly coming face to face with another competitor who represents everything people thought about you when you were young...only...he doesn't need any advantage handed to him the way you needed it...and on top of that, he's fast. Actually he's faster than you ever were around the track on the best day of your life. Then on top of that, he saw you as an idol but didn't think twice about challenging you. Now he sees you as a has-been, much the way you once looked at another Italian competitor in what seems like a lifetime ago. Worst of all...he doesn't buy into your myth, your mind games, or any of your ...........and every time you open your mouth, he finds another few tenths to shove down your throat. You're just treading water hoping somehow fate decides to roll something other than snake eyes when you are up looking for a favorable result.
That has to sting like a ......
