Just watched race. Well that was all kinds of gay. Haven't read the thread, my guess is we have a few boppers back?

I went to see the FIA Formula E race in Long Beach this weekend. Electric open-wheel cars, called the E Grand Prix. It was like being at a rave and race at same time. They actually had a DJ (actually named EJ, as in "electronic DJ") next to the podium playing EDM. I .... you not, during the race they had something like video game music playing in the loud speakers. Maybe because the cars are electric and the only thing you hear is the wizzing of the air as they...wiz by. So to create the notion of excitement and speed they got video game music blaring. Turns out during the pit stop they actually change cars. Yeah, because if they didn't do that then the pit stop would take like 5 hours to recharge the batteries, that would be a long pit stop and probably would kill the action. So, they jump out of their cars and jump into another car and wiz away. While this happens there are guys blowing whistles all the while. Imagine you are surrounded by 50 guys all blowing those whistles you hear at a basketball game. Individually blowing. They do this because the cars are silent, so when they come into the pits the team that would have otherwise been changing tires and refueling are blowing whistles at the top of their lungs. Its all very interesting, but I couldn't help thinking it was also all very gay.

Thanks Michelin, you've turned MotoGP gay.

I think the concept and technology is great, but as a used car sales man,
I wouldn't touch electric cars even with a 10 feet pole.

Tyres aside...Thanks for this report, I've often wondered about the atmosphere at a e-race. Sounds ....... .....
We got invited to the Beijing round last year. Rather glad I didn't go.
(They do the whistle thing in the pits at PI, at least there's bikes roaring over them, so less of a rave inspired annoyance)

They didn't have to change tires, they had to change bikes. The original tires were reinstated.

Chalk it up to Rossi trying to point out his podium didnt include an element of luck. He wasn't the only one whining about the tire situation, the TechTwat riders were also moaning, saying Ducati should turn down the power because they're causing the tires to blow. How such a stupid statement can be uttered by these professional racers is mind-boggling.

Rossi mentioned he thought perhaps the tires he got to run his two stints were not identical. Which leads me to wonder if Lorenzo got a .... tire. Consider this, let's say Rossi gets his wish and is forced to run a 25 lap race instead of 20 with a switch, according to him and the TechDic riders this was done to cater to Ducati. What happens then if by "luck" Rossi races that 2nd .... tire (that's what he is suggesting). He would have been nowhere near that podium. With the extra laps Iannone likely wouldn't have raced like his contract depended on it to close the gap with 5 less laps. However, the point I'm trying to highlight is that Rossi has questioned the quality control of Michelins. And I think with good reason.

Also, Race Direction are either overreacting to Iannone overly ambitious but not cynical pass attempt or this is the "new" Race Direction's intention of tightening up the track action. I see absolutely no difference between Iannone's torpedo and Rossi's torpedo of Stoner. Both ambitions out-weighing their talent. The Yellow Hordes would have been up in arms if Rossi would have been penalized with 3 grid positions. Of course I have utterly no faith in Mike Webb, and I don't for one minute believe a penalty would have been issue to Rossi other than these meaningless 'penalty points'. ...., the boppers would have been saying how Dovi left the door open. Rossi is now whining that Iannone's pass on him was too dangerous, for .... sake Valentino, "this is racing". Rossi is continuing the tactic of thwarting the enthusiasm of riders challenging him. God forbid he will lead the points, then the unwritten rule of not racing the points leader will be in effect.

Not even a Tesla? I got my tickets through Faraday Future, a company that is looking at producing an electric car. They had their concept car there, it was rather amazing.

They had this fan participation gimmick where fans could vote through various social media for their three favorite drivers. The drivers with the most votes would then get an "extra e-power boost" during the race. They kept announcing it on the loud speakers, "ok fans, your support will have a direct effect on the race. Get your phones out and vote!"

Imagine if they did this in GP? During the race the most popular rider will get to unleash extra horse power for a few laps. #Boppers

except Rossi lamented the fact they had to change tires due to them failing on Ducs...and no one else

"Sincerely during the weekend with the Yamaha we never have the problem with the tyres. So for the problem of another bike we have to change everything when we don’t suffer," Rossi said.

but you know...carry on with your witch hunt lol

Were they on the SOFT tyres that Lorenzo likes at all this weekend? No dumbo they weren't. Try reading what's written instead of what you want to see. You probably formulated your little argument before you'd finished reading my post in your haste to defend your hero...
He did have to moan about something though didn't he, it was Tito's fault he lost ground. He lost ground because he couldn't go fast enough on cold tyres to catch Marquez and also Marquez turned it up a notch and blew him away. The old queen was limping home in fourth again until his mate Iannone threw him a bone.

LOL at that...

Lorenzo had better get used to the harder tyres and fast if he wants to challenge for another title this year. Now the failure of a tyre has happened and seeing that his rival doesn't get on with the harder tyres, you can be sure that Valentino will be flapping his lips about the safety of the softer tyres.
Mark my words, it'll happen...

No one in MGP has tried the hard construction yet. Maybe Jorge will love them more than Vale...

Iannone? - This is what you get for trying to steal a move off Crutchlow.

Valentino Rossi was astonishing on the brakes yesterday - absolutely sublime to watch. No pit stop and I think this race was his...Marquez is much faster on the changeover and never seems to have an issue with his No.2 bike. Remember Austin qualifying last year?

Whatever his detractors may say, Rossi is still a joy to watch in command of that M1 and I'm glad he secured a contract extension. Last year I recall Fenati pulling a step off wheelie into pit lane (which is granted, challenging on a Moto3 bike). He put it down so heavily he almost binned it. Did you see the Hopper-esque one that Valentino pulled as an afterthought post qualifying - you could see him modulating the throttle to increase the height and then gently roll it back on for a smooth descent. Wonderful.

Unfortunately his continued presence in the sport is yet again marred by his increasingly moronic following. Once again, did you see the stand erupt when Lorenzo crashed out. I am utterly unable to fathom why anyone would cheer a fallen rider and why these ....... idiots don't want to see all of these riders battle it out to the chequered flag. Like I always say - obsessive fans of the man not the sport. Further, Gav Emmett who has been on a personal crusade against the increased booing of some riders on the rostrum put this to those present in the press conference. Unsurprisingly, Rossi refused to condemn it.

Rossi is not the 'GOAT' as you say Talpa - he never will be. The true GOAT was a gentleman and would have been horrified by such disrespect emerging in the sport.

Finally, massive shout for Eugene Laverty.

Iannone is just another Simoncelli, a reckless berk who costs his team a fortune(see also a Mr Crutchlow)

I always considered Iannone to be the more talented of the two. That opinion is certainly debatable. What he shared with Sic was immaturity, poor race craft and sporadic results that belittled his talent. Additionally, I believed that his skittish style and poor results stifled him in Moto2 increasing his tenure in the undercard series.

I was happy to see Iannone come up to the big show and even happier to see him put some of his past behavior to bed. Now after 4 DNF's in a row and 3 poor decisions in a single race, you've got to again start talking about his composure, maturity and wether he deserves a factory seat on a reasonably stout bike. Admittedly, I like Dovi, I think he's underrated and a guy who's always behaved admirably. Perhaps my support for Dovi clouds my vision but in this case, I just don't see the need for greater patience with Iannone because we've seen this from him for years.

With luck, Ducati will send him to a satellite team and retain Dovi. I hope this incident makes that decision easier but I suspect not. Dovi isn't a guy anyone needs in their paddock. He's doesn't bring sponsorship dollars and he isn't the heir to Rossi's cult. I think he sadly gets the journeyman tag and as a result I can see Ducati retaining Iannone instead.

Rossi sent ianone on a mission to help him get on the podium to re pay him from PI last year.....answer torpedo dovi or the mafia would be after him

lol ya about that...

Lorenzo prob cheering marquez on...... ......

Marquez gifted 1st place cos of bike change.

Yes but was about to loose that position ......

Rossi Bopperism at its finest. Can you not debate without personal insults? If Lorenzo is a ...... for cheering Marquez on, what does that make Rossi for undoubtedly cheering when Iannone gifted him not 1, but 2 positions?

If they want to make racing safer they should ban Italians from the sport.
That whole species is idiotic.

It's not just bikes they crash either:

If the admin, moderator, owner or whoever is in charge of this pathetic shitshow had any spine, you and Junker would be gone.

Actually you'd be gone. I know the Site Owner has a "Attack the position, not the person" attitude to moderating, so seeing as you called JPS and Jumkie ..... twice in one post, you'd be the one gone my friend.

Ditto, it's a great technology for cities, but will never replace ICE for long haul stuff, not unless they find some holy grail of energy storage. And as Kitty says, horrifically expensive at present. The base model Tesla is nearly $100,000.

Rossi mentioned he thought perhaps the tires he got to run his two stints were not identical. Which leads me to wonder if Lorenzo got a .... tire.

Lorenzo made a mistake, was having a bad weekend and lost concentration, something he was man enough to admit to.

MotoGP News - MotoGP Argentina: Lorenzo: 'They stayed on, I didn?t'

Agreed on all points. His 'fans' are pathetic, and he is even more so for not condeming it. It would be like someone cheering after Simoncelli's fatal accident because he took Rossi out of the race.

Great to see some chopping and changing in the action yesterday, the Avintia Ducati's were even 6/7th at one point! Miller could have had a good result but binned it as usual, I think he learned too much from Crutchlow last year. I was laughing when he dropped it on lap 1. I'm yet to find any comment from him, I'm hoping he blamed the front tyre just as mDubStyle predicted.

Supreme ride from Laverty too, totally deserved. Was very disappointed for Redding, he was riding well and deserved a good result.

Right, he wasn't comfortable because something was off compared to the first bike. But, I don't think Rossi or his team was aware something was off on the 2nd bike and Rossi chose the better bike for the first half of the race as povol suggests. No way would they have a 2nd bike that's a second slower than the first just waiting to be used for the 2nd half of the race.

Maybe Rossi is a better rider when he has MM to show him the way 'round...

I can't believe some riders are blaming Ducati for the Michelin problems saying that they have to turn down power, hahahahaha, that's a nice joke.

This is ridiculous.

If Michelin is uncappable of making a decent tire, so the manufacturers must turn down their power? hahahah what a crap
