To bad his ambition was sucked into a blackhole, I'd like to see that.

Thing is too Dubs, over the last 15 years, the rider's championship has been divvied up between only 5 guys. VR, CS, JL, MM, and NH. If not for Nicky, it would be only 4 different winners in 15 years.

Think about all of the riders who have come and gone, who couldn't even sniff 1 title...or even a race victory.

Stoner got 2 titles for two different teams.

Pedrosa couldn't even get 1. And it's unlikely he ever will now.

MM and JL may never win a title for any team other than the one they ride for now. VR is the only other one to bag a title for two teams.

Winning races is great, but if you have no titles to show for it, that hurts.

Make sure to tell add the *stating that he will only be valid for a few years and then irrelevant.

Yeah - kinda like all those other quitters like Kenny Roberts, Eddie Lawson and Schwantz. Those guys were also such losers 'cause they didn't have enough ambition. Nobody will remember them either.

ignored.

I did not bring him up Micheal did. Stoner and this conversation are irrelevant but if you choose to reply so will I.

See my previous post. He was not brought into this thread by me. I was happily discussing the race with no criticism of any rider except MM until you responded to another poster, Dr No himself I believe, who in turn responded to a catty remark by you concerning the rider, apparently appalling in his nonRossi-ism, who actually won said race.

Not in this thread perhaps. But you love to fling the barbs against him.
.... it, man. This .... gets tiresome.
I'll stop.

Now then,
I want DP keep being the spoiler, since MM seems to have gone full win or bin.

That is something a cannot argue with JPS nor would I even try. I would love to see CS wild card at PI this year. And not just because it would take points away from Lorenzo. He is a talent that is not where are opinions differ.

Oops sorry Michael you are right it was Dr. NO who comment on my shark v fish post with stoner. I am also happy to talk about the race instead.

Until next time. ;) If he had as much ambition and fight as you guys do, he'd still be here and never lose.

Sooo, stoner wasn't in the race. So I'm going to switch topics. Does no one else think that Iannone is as impressive as I think he is? ...... is amazing under pressure & under pain!

Thank you! Yes. I've always thought he was a great talent. Put him on the honda or yamaha and he'd be fighting for the title.

Before leaving this topic since it is derailing the thread, I have had this discussion with you and Johnny K before, and there do seem to be cultural differences as well as basic misunderstanding between us.

The American dream may be different, but having great success, making enough money to look after yourself and your family for life, and retiring to a coastal or rural property to enjoy the money is certainly not inconsistent with the Australian dream.

I also have the "benefit" of knowing probably scores of people with an annual income in multiple millions, including a (non-medical) family member. They rarely pay people that sort of money for something that is not difficult and demanding; some will do it as long as they can because they love it so much, which in GP racing would include the likes of Valentino and I guess Nicky, while others whilst having enjoyed what they have done and despite continuing to be tough, competent and perfectly capable of continuing decide they are happy with their achievements and accumulated wealth and wish to stop and smell the roses. This is considered quite legitimate in medical circles, obviously more so than continuing for the money when no longer fully committed. Imo the same applies to GP bike racing, and I don't believe Freddie Spencer for instance who has a record somewhat comparable with Stoner's did himself any favours by continuing as long as he did.

Absolutely. He should be the next guy on a factory Honda or Yamaha if Gigi can't bring the Ducati up to scratch.

Who's gonna argue against that? He's kinda been the unspoken heir for many to the Simoncelli fan club around here. Some of his battles in the otherwise often boring Moto 2 races were really epic. He's not as flamboyant in interviews and definitely not as over the edge as Simoncelli - but there's a certain something that always reminds me of him. Tho - he's already a much more mature racer than old Sic. I wasn't a big fan of Super Sic - but I still wonder from time to time how he'd be faring if he were still around. A guy that big would IMHO not have been able to continue to be competitive in a world of midgets and anorexics.

Agree. There is that kind of Narcissistic Personality Disorder that seems to be particularly rampant in American with the Trumps, Kochs and Adelson's and their ilk to keep on piling up more than they need - and none of them EVER seem like genuinely happy. Whereas Stoner is that rare breed that seems to be at peace with himself and happy to .... off and do what he wants without worrying what anyone else thinks. He's got the beautiful wife, the kid, the house and the toys and very little need to blog or Twitter or any of the social media stuff to bring attention to himself. Clearly this angers those who have nothing and never will some for whom enough is never enough.

He's a fantastic rider. Dude has a passion for the sport. I mean ...., I ..... about little .... & not wanting to do it. Homeboy just goes out every Sunday & kills it.

Ambition sufficient to win 2 world championships and 38 premier class races, particularly for a rider who mainly rode a Ducati, is plenty by almost any standard, if not Rossi's, although Valentino's ambition to win on a Ducati did not seem to ebb all that slowly.

I think Stoner certainly did run out of ambition after his 2011 championship win, and shouldn't have let himself be persuaded to continue in 2012.
