Jorge Lorenzo is on the cusp of announcing the severance of technical sponsor and helmet provider HJC. Sources suggest that he has negotiated a deal with a new helmet manufacturer operating out of Brunei (possibly hoping that no one will notice the difference), called BJ.C. A spokesperson for the company was unavailable for comment but is believed to also own the same rival race clothing manufacturer SpidiK and subsidiary company 'Suit-A-Laws'.

Interesting. I wonder if this comes from pressure within the garage. Well if BJC offers big sponsorship, may we see others switch, it may persuade the Doctor, no?

Wings on JLO's Bike!!!

How long before we see them on Rossi's bike? And why not; Ducati guys seem to think they help. Was kinda hoping Rossi would get that 10th championship - but Lorenzo seems to be on fire right now. This could be the best end of season races in many a year.

Supposedly Vale gets them tomorrow.

It will all depend on whether or not the added down-force on the front tyre helps or hinders JLo when he uses them for more than 1 lap....

Higher down-force (if that is what it is doing of the yamaha) on the front tyre may cause them to deteriorate faster on a hot track like Misano will be on Sunday...so perhaps only the hard option tyre will work best with the wings...

However, Rossi has probably already tried the wings at Aragon during the private test...so he already knows if he wants to use them or not.....

Either way they look better on the Yamaha than they do on the Ducati....

Didn't Rossi also test here at Misano on a "road" bike?

If I recall, the first time these wings were used was when Ducati were trying to mitigate their front end issues. Then they disappeared. Now back again.

Rossi apparently tests at Misano often but on an R1 as part of his VR46 Ranch....and since it is a GP track, according to Kropo's site...Rossi apparently has to submit a technical spec of the bike he does ride at the track to the MotoGP technical director for approval so as to ensure he inst cheating by testing a GP like bike at a GP track

From what they say on UK tv...Ducati has given several conflicting reasons for the wings on their bike....one was even to get better airflow to the engine which is very hard to believe

Migs, Certainly they would want to keep their technical reasons secret. When I went to Indy back in 2009 (actually dont quote me on year) but Ducati had their wings, I approached one of the techs and asked him to explain the use of the wings. Keep in mind, it was late in the day, I was one of the last peeps buzzing around the paddock, the riders and autograph hunters had long gone. The Italian bloke was so ambiguous and evasive in his answer that it became very clear it was top secret. It also became clear that anything they might say to the media was for effect (at least that's my CONSPIRACY theory).

I think to be fair Jums, Ducati were so lost in terms of technical direction in that era that probably THEY didn't even know if the wings worked.

Haha no doubt.

Perhaps they should have employed BM to explain to Ducati the design and effects of the wing. Surely he knew.

The Doctor? No, he would never defect from AGV

Gigi has consistently maintained that they are nothing more than an anti wheelie mechanism allowing them to rely less on the electronics sapping power.

I call BS on that. The wings are aero, so only work over a certain speed. I know these bikes are constantly trying to overtake the front wheel but I find it hard to believe that at the main speeds wheelie-ing is an issue that they would have any reasonable effect.

My theory regarding the Ducati is that it could well be that they are using the winglets to create vortices rearward of the aerodynamic element itself, thereby creating areas of low pressure below each vortex . As a result I imagine this area of low pressure then draws out the hot air from the engine cooling vents in the fairing, thus increasing engine efficiency.

This to me seems the most likely explanation, and would have little to no effect on the handling characteristics of the machine...

I haven't seen Gigi's words, but at speed a bike's CoP is above its CoG, so it's trying to rotate/pitch backwards...which is kinda a wheelie. Just not a power one.
If the winglets are below the CoG they will created a counter moment to the rearward pitch. Helping to keep the front end down.

Or they could just obfuscate the VSGs....

Edit: Just saw an image of JL's winglets...reminiscent of the experimental ones MV Agusta tried in their twilight years

I believe this too.

Winglets gone from both Yamahas.

Rossi looked like crap and at last second made the front row. He hasn't given up yet. MM looks frustrated. Got the feeling he really wanted to steal Lorenzo's fire by getting the pole. Pirro fifth on grid - but I doubt it'll be meaningful over the course of the race itself.

P1 - Lorenzo
P2- MM
P3- VR

Going to be an exciting start tomorrow!

Oh look, two RCV's in the top 5 of qualifying.

Look at what a terrible bike it is!

Rossi is in for the fight.....he may not win it but he wont be that far off....

JLo just has to worry about MM taking some desperate move very early in the race....
