Exactly my point from earlier. I found Q2 somewhat underwhelming because it looked like he was cruising around, a la Jorge Lorenzo.

Maybe it's finally going to come out that bucking bronco was Honda...not Marc.
Nakamoto said the control ECU would screw Honda. The bike/engine were designed to be tamed by the bespoke electronics. I guess while the software between Marc’s ears , his reflexes and his bravery and/or foolhardiness were still allowing Honda to win they didn’t see the need for a radical re-design. Then Gigi designed bikes with aero etc which allowed riders to replicate what MM did without his impossible to replicate riding talent, particularly with him mostly having a poorly functioning arm and with aero having always been anathema to the Honda engineering philosophy.

If the reason for the minimum tyre pressure bollox is because of concern that the tyre may roll off the rim why can’t they run a Tubeliss type system that’s run in mx and enduro?
This system features a small very high pressure inner tube that expands against the bead of the tyre forcing it against the wheel rim so there is no chance of leaks. Tyre air pressure can be added to the area around the inner tube in the normal way.
Just a guess, but I'd imagine that such a system as you described would not be compatible with the needs of riders who need to do multiple quick changes of tires during practice and quali.

Not to sound like a visionary, because others have said it too. But, Marc on the late 2010's Honda was similar to Casey Stoner on the 2008-2010 Ducati. They were winning on it through talent alone which made their manufacturers complacent, only when both left (or had injury enforced layoff in the case of the latter) did they realise how much they were in trouble.

Not meant in a “gotcha” snarky way, but hasn’t that been received wisdom for some time now, at least on this forum?

Marc leaving HRC and going to Ducati I thought, was equivalent to when Stoner stopped burning himself out on the Ducati to ride the then supreme Honda. If he’d done it 5 years ago, he’d probably have 10 championships by now, not to mention far fewer surgeries.

Edit: LOL - I wrote this before refreshing the page and now see our thinking was in parallel.

Marc's pole lap. So smooth, that it looks slow.
Damn; that was impressive indeed. Thank you for posting that. I didn't think Marc could be that smooth; he's the whole package now. He was obviously over-riding his lesser bikes before... but he doesn't have to anymore. I'm really looking forward to the next few races, to see if that form continues, especially on his less preferred venues. We're witnessing a level of greatness not seen before IMO. Barring disaster, it should continue. But Pecco will definitely close that gap; the only question is how quickly. That's also what I'm curious about.

I watched this earlier and couldn’t help but notice what a great interaction Marc has forged this early with all the team. By the look on his face near the end this hasn’t gone unnoticed by Pecco either. This situation is set to develope further in Pecco’s head to his detriment.
I did notice Pecco was told that it was important to finish, remember last year

Very nice video; thank you for posting it. Didn't see it on their site. And yes, he seems to be getting along great with everybody. I didn't know he was that fluent in Italian; that has to help a lot, I assume. Oh, and Pecco didn't look happy at all. Ha ha.

Pecco clearly not happy with finishing 3rd in that video but he shouldn't be.
The way he repeated that MM was able to accelerate like Alex and brake like him said to me there is a little bit of worry. Pecco will regroup no doubt, but if MM keeps the form early on, Pecco will have no choice but take extra risks to close the gap and risk DNFs.
Pecco just needs to get the whole 'MM is playing with us' out of his head, it destroyed his mentor and could impact his results if he continues to think like that IMO.

Pecco's mental health is gonna take a huge hit this season. Hope he's up for it.

I might be on an island here but I think Pecco is up for it. I think he may be mentally tougher than he’s given credit for being. Whether or not he can equal Marc’s mental toughness may be another question but I think Pecco is up for a fight this year. He has shown he is not afraid to engage with Marc on track, however wisely or unwisely.
