2024 MotoGP Round 9: Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland - Sachsenring

Will be interesting for sure. Looks like we will get a rain race on Sunday. I can’t remember a summer in 40years where it had rained more than 2024.

Depending on what areas of Europe you look at, the rainfall for the month of June has been very close to the historical average. Slightly more rain in some places.
The average temperature though is far above average for places like Athens and Rome (7c higher than average) and Barcelona (4c). Amsterdam though is cooler.
Warmer, wetter and wilder weather could be more of a new normal. That would make exciting racing, not so much fun trackside unless you are prepped for rain and heat. I guess Marquez could be given a few years plus on his career if we start having more wet races, and Miller might even stay around for longer. :)

As for this race I'll be looking at the Oliveira - Fernandez battle and the Moto2 championship. The Garcia - Ogura - Roberts - Aldeguer battle is great for that class. Same with Veijer for Moto3.

I live 15 k from the track and it's been miserable all the damn time. Raining every f*cking day, it's been damn cold outside for months with maybe 5 nice days in between.
Didn't even get close to 20 celsius yesterday and today, I feel like it's gonna snow.

According to the Met Office, "The scientists estimate that climate change contributed to increasing the amount of total rainfall by about 15%."

I think a TL;DR: is, higher temperatures evapourate more water, and what goes up is going to come down again.

While there will be more serious effects of increased rain on other things, is it going to have much effect on sports such as MotoGP? While riders fall off a lot in the rain, do the reduced speeds compensate for otherwise increased falling-off danger?

Cmon Marc! I need that dose of victory, enof with misfortunes and bike problems.

Personally I think Marc has a decent chance this weekend. We'll see soon enough.

Weather has been great mostly here in the Toronto area in Ontario Canada, sunny and warm today and gonna be like that for a while. We got an earlier than normal start to Spring/Summer this year, fantastic so far.

That is the gist of it. And some of the hotter tracks might become even hotter.
This could well mean that the calendar might change, in time. Racing in too hot conditions isn't good. Also, too much rain would cancel or reschedule an event.
The tracks I've been to in Europe, are neither well suited for rain or heat. Who'll invest in the upgrading of the tracks?

I'd fancy a shorter winter break, and a few breaks from March to the end of the season. It even might be better for the riders, and for development, to have a few lulls in the season.

Back on topic though..

Interesting to see how the leading trio of Marc, Pecco and Martin all look as they would be anywhere, apart from the same room. It'll be interesting to see how the new Ducati Corse riders manage to attend the Ducati events from next year on.

Also good to hear that Diggia has at least three options, and that the two he is considering the most is VR46 and Pramac Yamaha. Fabio Q said as much in the presser that he would like to have him there.

Pecco seems to think Marc will be the favorite for the weekend.

I don't agree with that at all, but who knows maybe its his attempt at putting subtle pressure on MM try overperform.

But he agrees that dropping down to 6 bikes is better for Ducati. So I think in the end Pramac actually did Ducati a favor even though no one is likely to ever admit that openly.

Yeh global warming means hotter tracks and more evaporation resulting in more rain

In regards to more crashes on wet tracks part of the reason is that the grip level changes every lap. Often you see a rider racing ahead and you can see by the way they are moving around that they aren’t going to make it to the end of the race

Agree, but he also said that wants to keep 4 factory bikes and that would be good for development. Well, you gain some and you lose some Pecco!!

I'd like to see him stay on a Ducati however it may not be the most lucrative approach with Yamaha in the running. I think he'd pare well with Fabio Q., not sure how Rins would fit in the picture though (seems he cannot get a break lately).

Some massive crashes so far in FP2. MM with a lowside over Waterfull that turned into a highside. Nasty. Both VR46 riders with fast crashes as well.

That was a proper weather induced crashfest! Luckily noone with severe injuries.

Marc now has to go through Q1. If he's fit enough, that shouldn't be an issue.

Feel for Miller. One onethousands of a second from a straight Q2. Aprilias all on the money.

Will be interesting to see how the weather changes overnight.
