2024 MotoGP Round 6: Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya - Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

Perhaps MM went for the soft to enable more overtaking in the early laps with the knowledge that he is good on worn tyres for the latter part of the race?
Yeah, the strategy got ...... though by lack start and outside top 10 early in. I thought the feeling for softs was in low grip the tyres were somewhat equalised and he could exploit it at end of race.

Not as thrilling of a finish to the race as the past couple of races, but that was to be expected with MM starting so far back on the grid.

Pecco Bagnaia with a hell of a recovery ride to close out the weekend. I think we might have had more of a battle for first place if Acosta hadn't forced Martin to use up so much tire defending against him. Unfortunate mistake by Acosta though to end any chance of a push for victory this weekend. He did have an incredible recovery ride and beat all of the Honda's if memory serves correctly. It looked like as he continued chasing Martin, he started over-riding the KTM to try and keep up. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened when Pecco made his big push for the lead. Martin again with a great ride and settled for the sure points instead of risking anything. But I do wonder what will happen if that points gap starts shrinking over the next several races. Will he be as content to settle for the points if he feels the pressure is on?

MM really needs to sort out his qualifying woes because I'm convinced he'd have won a race by now if he was on the first 2 rows of the grid at the start. Magnificent ride from him though. He seems rather comfortable pushing the front end of the Ducati now, which might be bad news for everyone else. I think if he can sort out the qualifying problems, he'd have a real chance at making a title run push. Perhaps we will still get that as a 3-way fight for the title would be fantastic.

Aleix tried hard to get past MM after that overtake, wasn't able to get anywhere with it, but at least he kept it interesting to the finish line. The 2 KTM riders most under threat for keeping their seats crashed out. Not a good look for either of them. FabioD did pretty well today to just ride and keep his mouth shut for once. But his buddy Bezzecchi was nowhere to be found. So his woes just continue. Not really sure how this is making any solid case for a factory GP25 for the VR46 squad.

Maverick did his usual disappearing act so I guess we're back to normal with him. Too bad. Just another rider who is fast on his day which doesn't come along all that frequently.

Mugello is going to be wild.

Marc monsters Mugello. His first Ducati win comes next.

A lot of hindsight but maybe Martin should have let Acosta go and burn up his soft tire? Pecco wasn't playing their game. He was at one point 1+ seconds behind them and not panicking. Pecco was playing the long game.

Yes he got to 8th or thereabouts fairly easily and early then was stuck behind Morbidelli for a number of laps, who was riding a GP24 obviously and perhaps oddly appeared to have him covered on the straights, so there was no further passing of riders with the advantage of soft tyres, and MM then had to make the softs last race distance which he somehow did. Morbidelli ultimately didn’t finish the race and hence achieved nothing other than holding MM up, but MM could obviate such problems by qualifying better as has been said.

Agree, if Marc could qualy better these past rounds he'd be in for a shout. Soft was a gamble that he could make similar start to sprint AND he gambled if same massive gains in first two laps the soft was the tyre to be on last 8 laps to fight.

I'm loving it. Marc is a combative again. Not dodging the ambulance.

In my opinion, Martin didn't make a mistake by keeping the lead. Of course he didn't manage his tyres like Pecco did but if he had let the lead to Acosta, what would have told you that he wouldn't have go alone ? Moreover, I think Banania would have push by seeing this, and try to reproduce Jerez case. Again the latter is quite "lucky" because it would have been uneasy to overtake Pedro, sad for the show...

Off topic but I don't get why Ducati was in such a rush to sign Aldeguer. He doesn't seem like anything special to me.

I'm not saying that GP24 is faster in straight lines than GP23 but your argument is not really relevant. Marquez had soft rear tyre that provides better corner speed so he was able to leave T14 faster than those who choose medium, especially in first laps and Marquez got some aspirations (widely seen on TV) while Martin and Banania didn't get lot of ones.
Concerning traction, I think it's classic ........ from VR46 pupils... Marquez with soft tyre wasn't able to catch Morbidelli with medium during few laps in the stands straight line.
That's not how things work. A better traction at the rear forces the front in the corner, therefore you can't get "better corner speed" for free this way. You would need a soft on the front too. Also, he managed to hit 350.6 at the end of the race, with a very worn tire. And there isn't that big difference between the Michelin soft and medium.

I seem to remember Ducati falling over themselves to sign Petrucci but I cannot remember why exactly. A wet win and another random podium? I forget but that signing made zero sense to me.

I probably shouldn't speak for gui22a but that's not now I interpreted his post. He merely stated at this race with a fairly long straight, the GP23 was faster in a straight line when we've been hearing how the GP24 has made yet another step in top-end speed.
Thanks for that, I didn't reply him bcoz if I come and say "I didn't say that", Keshav is ready to drop me in the trash bin lol.

I did see something today that said, the weekend was Ducati’s 92nd victory.
Their 27th came from Stoner
Their 63rd came from Pecco
Their 72nd came from Bezz
Their 89th came from Martin
If I were Pecco or Martin not only I would let MM wins in Mugelo but also would help him to do so. They can't break this streak! Let the guy win!

Morbidelli managed to hold MM up for a number of laps, as he was of course entitled to do as they were racing for position, but I rather suspect superior riding skill was not heavily involved.

I was being as non-confrontational as possible, when refuting what you indicated in your post. So . . . What exactly did you NOT say? Or should we assume that part of your statement is covered when you say “blah blah blah”?
