2024 MotoGP Round 6: Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya - Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

Mature ride from Jörg today.
If you wanna be a champion that's exactly how you gotta ride. Win if it's your day, take maximum points if it ain't your day.
Marc gains 11 spots again and already has more points than he had at the end of last season.
Surprised Aleix wasn't a contender today. Would've loved to see him on the podium.

Great race from Bagnaia though. Whenever he ..... up it needs to be remembered, or I need to remember anyway, that he can pull out something like this the next race.

Looks like MM can still ride worn tyres. He looked very happy about this result, I guess coming from 14th with what seems to have been the wrong tyre choice given the softs didn’t help him early in the race after he got stuck behind Morbidelli, best he could have done methinks. Pecco and Jorge great though they ride should probably be grateful he is not on a GP 24 rather than on a GP23 he had to learn to ride from scratch at the start of the season. Nevertheless if ifs and buts were crackers and nuts everyday would be Christmas as it is said, and I have to return to regarding Pecco as the guy who has best mastered the aero bikes, he still imo has a slight edge on Martin for ultimate pace, although it remains to be seen which of them will be best at abstaining from throwing his bike down the road this season.

Not as thrilling as yesterday's race but it didn't lack tension and drama either. Well deserved win by Pecco, who has a knack of strong rebounding after an error. Mature ride by Jorge as JFM01 said, the championship hopes are looking good for him. As for Marc, it shouldn't be possible for anyone to do this so often but he's from another planet I suppose, he needs to sort out his qualification woes, but it's safe to say that his adaptation to the Ducati is fully complete. A shame about Acosta's crash but those are the types of mistakes a rookie has to make, he's still superbly fast. Nice GP for Aleix and Raul, not so much for the other two Aprilias. Enea with a ballsy strategy of ignoring penalties to see if he can soft-talk race direction later, we'll see.

Main takeaway is that, in the one place where the Ducatis seemed vulnerable, they ended up occupying the top 3. Still work to do for the rest.

Great ride from Pecco
smart ride from Jorge you win championships by not needlessly throw points away going for win that you’re never going to get.
Marc salvaged another podium after a .... qualifying. Even with a better q session I’m not sure he would have had the pace to go with the other two. He can’t keep qualifying like .... though.
Pedro with a really good ride both before and after the crash.

Unless its to hold an umbrella.
Rumor in the paddock is he'll be back next year with a booth selling mustache wax or was it mustache rides?

Marquez - so inspired. When Gigi and Dominicalli are doing the math, between Marquez and Martin, I wouldn't be surprised if
it goes to Marquez, because Marquez will (or so I imagine) be happy to ride for less than half of what Martin will be
demanding. The worst thing that could come of that decision would be Martin winning on a Pramac Ducati and it would
still be a win for Ducati.

I was sweating, heart rate up when Aleix tried to take back 3rd place from Marc. I would say it was best result possible for Marc from P14 and only lost 1 point against Martin this weekend. Lets go!

Great Race today, Acosta put up a great show but then crashed, .... happens. I think he deserved a better bike, more on that later.

Pecco is incredible, I really like this guy who always brings adrenaline to the show, be it crashing on the last lap or winning the race just after.

Martin will be champion, I have 0 doubt about that now. He is just doing what he has to do to grab the crown. Win when possible, take a podium when not. I think he'll be the next Ducati Lenovo rider. He should be.

Marquez is back. Another spectacular race from the dancer. He just need to dial in his saturday PR to try to start from better positions. His first win is maturing. And who knows, maybe he can put up a great fight for the tittle until the end, but Martin is calm and very strong this year. Now for the ones who said GP24 top speed and bla bla bla, Barcelona has a long straight, so let's check this. Pecco top speed was 348.3, Jorge was 347.2 and Marquez was 350.6 km/h. So, where is that GP24 top speed superiority? Also, yesterday Pecco said the GP23 has a bit more traction on circuits with low grip.

I took a look at the championship standing and I saw 4 Ducatis in the top 4. Hmm. Year after year I hear some saying how KTM and Apprilia have evolved and bla bla, that sounds more like a "hope" than a fact. Aprilia DID evolve, for sure, but they lack riders. But I think Acosta deserves a better machine for sure. KTM is not there yet. Yeah, I know their riders sucks (excludind Acosta), but the bike does not help.

As I said before the race they have to offer MM a GP 25 ride next seadon, him on a KTM or Aprilia would be a disturbing prospect for Ducati.

Money might come into it as you say, Martin wants to get paid, which is probably fair enough particularly if he wins the title. If a non factory Ducati rider wins I guess it would look better if they have already signed the rider concerned to the factory team for next season.

Petrucci in a recent interview in which he claimed no onside knowledge posited that it must be very tempting for Gigi to see what a rider such as MM could do on his bike, and I agree with him that is what Gigi Is all about, a Casey Stoner of engineers if you will if with a steadier temperament who wants to see the ultimate performance potential of his bikes realised. He wanted to dump Dovi et al for Stoner when he first started getting the bike right, and then Lorenzo as I recall, even though Dovi was doing well he didn’t seem to think he was good enough.

I am not so sure. He looked like he had the winning of the title in his own hands last season quite late in the season, but Pecco delivered in the clutch and he threw his bike down the road. A 40 point lead is not what it was formerly with more rounds and 40 points available each round. The possibility also exists that both Martin and Bagnaia are correct and the bike does occasionally just fail capriciously.

I have the impression MM wants to be with Gresini. This weekend he talked about not having pressures and all that stuff, he is having fun at Gresini, it's a team where he's the boss. He just want a factory machine as he doesn't give a .... for money from now. What difference it makes to go to Lenovo team or stay at Gresini if they give him the factory support? A bit more money? He doesn't care. Red Bull and all other sponsors can take care of that. It's much better to stay on a place where you are the boss and is having fun.

Tardozzi on Enea's penalties:

"When they give you a long lap penalty you have to do it, otherwise you get worse consequences. In race direction we analysed what happened and Enea was totally right: Alex Marquez pushed him out, Enea saved a possible contact, he couldn't do anything but cut back and by the way he came in behind Alex Marquez! I'm amazed at the 30 second penalty, it seems to me that the stewards realised they had made a mistake, I protested. Freddie Spencer looked down when I asked him what he would have done in Enea's place on the bike. I hope they take them off, though I fear they will not. I would appreciate an admission of guilt on their part, it would be professional to apologise. This issue has been there since Austin, we have asked for cooperation, but this is the situation".

That penalty was total ......... I applaud the beast for ignoring it.

Spencer is making some powerful enemies. I wonder what’s securing his position as chief steward?
