Radio Tavullia: Rossi without Burgess in 2014

He was pretty honest in Beattie's regular interview with him at Phillip Island this year. Said that he hoped there was maybe a couple of wins left in it for Vale, but the dream of being a championship contender again were over. He just looked genuinely over it.

Yeh he has been in the game a long time....not much left to prove.

Indeed, playing second fiddle to Wilco wouldn't be at all fun for a man like JB. It's been interesting that Cal has revealed a lot more than VR about the development direction of the M1. Either way unless by some miracle the regs get changed for next season, Yamaha are going to struggle

What did Cal say? I missed it

Move on

if this gets into .... flinging it will be the main story not the motogp champ being crowned this weekend

To be fair, I doubt the guys spannering on his bike were to blame for the Willairot incident. I think the guys who sent him out that day are working in his team already.

Sure, but this also presumably means the withdrawal of any leavening influence.

Yes, that was rather my point. He will have the whole team involved with the Willairot incident with him next year rather than just the part of it involved with the lap strategy at PI this year.

What's the story with that?  Did Uncle Alzo supposedly threaten to shoot poor naive 'Bambi' if he didn't break every track and sporting rule by hammering around at full chat after the checkered flag had been shown?

In any event, may I humbly opine that the ONLY person responsible for the attempted murder of Ratthapark is..... Marc Marquez.

Sure, and  I am hardly an apologist for MM in regard to the Willairot incident,  but what was the point of sending him out in the first place? I don't think Gabbarini would have, the same as he was actually capable of counting the laps correctly at PI, or at least deciphering the hand written note.

In the press conference today,

Rossi confirmed that Burgess will not be his crew chief next year

Rossi also said that it was Rossi's decision to get a new crew chief as he says he needs a boost for next year for better results

Well i suppose next years results will prove whether it's was right or wrong to change crew chief .  If Rossi goes on to be competitive for the top spot it will have to be seen as an inspired decision. If he doesn't then i'm sure he will be seen as a back stabbing disloyal .......o.

In high level sport or business the ends do justify the means. Happens in football all the time so why not in motorsport ?

Valentino Rossi dropped a bombshell during the pre-event press

conference for this weekend’s Valencia MotoGP clash in Spain by

confirming he will split with legendary crew chief Jerry Burgess for

2014.

...

The story leaked in the Italian press yesterday (Wednesday) but MCN

understands that Rossi communicated his decision to senior management in

the days after the recent Japanese Grand Prix at the Twin Ring Motegi.

...

Burgess was informed of Rossi’s decision to replace him in a meeting

this morning, ending their long and successful relationship together.

Classy, Valentino.  Real classy.  :(

I wonder what Jeremy knows about bus undercarriage maintenance?

No, it doesn't.  (Is that you, Lex?)

I appreciate that our ...... society has come to accept this, but I'll argue 'till I'm dead and buried that the manner in which a person conducts their business is far more important than any 'success' that may come their way as a result.

I guess we can officially bury Rossi's "Golly, I'm just a happy, smiling clown!" persona, eh?  ;)

I wouldn't be so quick to judge as you often are. Remember you claiming Rossi was happy about simo's death. All from a photo taken of Rossi disembarking a plane and had a facial expression that you jumped on. People like you live for these reports and jump on them with your hateful bile. Don't get me wrong geo, i understand and even acted similarly with anything regarding stoner. But in this case i will reserve judgement until i have at least head JB's version of events. Quoting MCN is laughable, the motorcycling tabloid press.

After 14 seasons working together in the World Championship Valentino

Rossi and his Crew Chief Jeremy Burgess will part ways following this

weekend’s Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana.

The pair have enjoyed one of the most fruitful working relationships in

the history of Grand Prix racing, having won seven world titles in the

premier class together.

But with Rossi looking for fresh influences next year in the Yamaha

Factory Racing team, having been unable to regularly challenge for

victories this year, the Italian will have a new Crew Chief in 2014.

Rossi announced the decision in Thursday’s press conference at Valencia

saying, “It’s not true that I’m unhappy with Jeremy’s work but it is

true that next year he won’t be my Chief Mechanic. It was a very

difficult decision for me because I have a great history with Jeremy. He

is not just my Chief Mechanic. He is like part of my family. My father

in racing.”

“But I’ve decided for next year I need to change something to try to

find new motivation and to have a boost to improve my level, my speed.

So this will be my last race together with Jeremy.”

The Doctor went on to add, "We spoke today, face to face. Next year

will be crucial and I need new motivation. In the last few races I’ve

felt I wanted to work in a different way. It was a difficult choice to

make. Yamaha had asked me some time ago, but I decided recently."

"In my head there is the idea of trying something new now. I’ve always

done that in my career. Next year I have to earn a renewal with Yamaha,

so I'll have to be competitive. I still do not know who will be the new

chief mechanic.”

Yea, I appreciate that MCN is right up there with Soup.  I'm still not quite sure I believe the story myself.

That said, This is <strike>Sparta!</strike> Powerslide! and one mustn't waste a golden opportunity to fling ....!  :)

As for Rossi's post-simo pic, I still don't understand how anyone could look so happy just days after running over his friend.  Even now, two years later, Valentino's smiling for the camera just doesn't compute for me.  My brain can't process that act.  My only conclusion is that Rossi is a typical baby kissing politician, who is always playing a role.  I may well be completely wrong, but that's the only explanation that makes sense to me.

Don't be so naive. This is world level and that demands results to get paid. If the results are not there then something has to change. Next year JB, the following year Rossi himself i don't doubt.

With my footy team we sacked the manager who won us the first silverware in 33 years. It looked unfair and was unpopular with many. That was until his replacement got us back to back promotions and got us into the premiership again. Then he was sacked and there was outrage in the city and sporting media. Now his replacement has got us in the top part of the league and instead of fighting against relegation, we are now fighting for a place in the champions league . You make the changes you need to get results. If you don't you will always be a loser ! I'm not saying it morally right but hey that's business.

This is gossip at it's worst. Then to extrapolate that Vale is throwing JB under the bus/they dislike each other? Soap opera fellas...

JB leaving wouldn't surprise me. The rest of this is laughable.

I took this quote from superbike planet :

Much earlier this season, at one of the Sepang MotoGP tests, Jeremy Burgess had breakfast with a friend. Relaxed and speaking freely, Burgess mentioned that, depending on what Valentino Rossi did this season, that 2013 could be Burgess' last season in MotoGP.

didn't jb's wife had cancer? and with racing I guess he is away a lot....plus he is getting older, id say its more a split decision than a falling out.

I said 3 or 4 seasons ago JB should call it a day his work was done then, in recent years he has just seemed to lack getting the bike setup properly in time to race.

im not just blaming JB but I think there are much better crew chiefs/mechanics out there these days, while jb an crew were trying to get the bike setup for rossi most teams already had it done and that goes for the otherside of the yam garage too.

Burgess thrown under the bus.

Chops, you make a good point compa, but unless Burgess's competence has failed, finding a reasonable and substantial reason to fire the man is increasingly intangible in the direction of delusional.  My feeling is this, the overall picture here is that Rossi is at the tail end of his career, if not his last year all together.  The likelihood of winning the title next year is, wait for it, thanks to BJC's calculation, 1:4, but that is a long shot 1:4.  I don't see any reason for him to fire Burgess unless perhaps Jerry ...... Uccio.  It can't be a lack of competence in Burgess.   He is still one of the best in the business, and frankly Rossi is having difficulty accepting that he is not as good as we had all been led to believe .   I doubt his poor results can be blamed on his crew chief but rather he is no longer enjoying the exclusive advantages that he once competed with.  On top of this, I think its a poor decision anyway, given that Jeremy can probably complete VR's sentences at this stage.  Who ever he gets is gonna have to learn all this experience from working together.

Well, I was gonna say after watching the pre-event press conference how much I have enjoyed listening to VR post Duc-humbling era, turns out, the more things change the more they remain the same.  I'll be interested to hear what Burgess has to say, perhaps it was mutual? Maybe Burgess told VR he wanted to move on? If not, then I can't help but feel It was a ..... move to fire Burgess this late in the game, after the man stood by him two-years in the wilderness that VR CHOSE which resulted from ego.  Ego seems to have made this decision, and the guy is now eating his own children.

I said this at the time, the pic was misleading and shouldn't have nothing been read into it.  Even at my brother's funeral, who tragically and suddenly died at the peak of his life, there were moments where I smiled and laughed.  When shaking somebodies hand for paying their respects was met with a smile, when remembering funny moments while he was still alive for example, and many other reasons why a smile might have come to my face.  Geo, you sound like you never been to a funeral, but people are not constantly with a gloomy face, as the human spirit and frankly a defense mechanism is to mitigate the pain off loss.
