MotoGP: 2013 Round 05 - Gran Premio d'Italia (SPOILERS)

Well, after watching that, I can't say that wall is dangerous at all. It doesn't look like he made any attempt to make this turn. A wall is dangerous when there is a possibility that the rider might hit it straight on or at least at an angle where the energy will have no chance of dissipating over a reasonable moment. This doesn't quite qualify I don't think, though I'm sure Kropo will make a case that any track Marky rides should have 3 miles of gravel fine white sand runoff in case the boy decides not to brake or make a turn.

motogp com says

the bike become out of shape at 337.9km/h (209.9mph) and seconds later the rider was crawling out of the Turn 1 gravel trap.

if you check the onboard footage he gets a mini stank slapper looking at it,

its this that puts him out of line into the grass

As has been said, Marquez is so so lucky here. It could have been much worse.

Damn, the rookies getting a nasty wake up call at a proper fast racetrack. They both look brutal, I wouldn't be able to get out of bed for a week after one of those.

Marc's one is bad, but I don't think the wall really needs to go, it's a pretty unlucky situation to go down the way he did. Some Airfence would probably be a good idea though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jumkie you seem quite happy that Marquez hit the wall? That'll learn him for hitting Wilaroit.

I'm still scratching my head at Marquez's crash.

How did he escape that without any serious injuries is beyond me.

imo injuries and his results mean Spies is Done

Unfortunately yesterday’s free practice sessions highlighted the muscular problems still afflicting Ben Spies.

The intense rehabilitation activities which the Texan has undergone in

the last 4 weeks have brought about a clear improvement but it still not

sufficient for Spies to demonstrate his true potential on the track.

After an analysis of the situation, the Pramac Racing Team, Ducati Corse

and the rider have taken the mutual decision to continue rehabilitation

and physiotherapy and to interrupt all track activities to allow Ben to

complete his total physical recovery.

In the next few days Ben Spies will undergo further medical checks in

order to have a clearer appraisal of the situation and evaluate the

treatment to be followed for full recovery.

Marquez had another small crash in FP3,

He stood the bike up and ran on into the gravel upright.

Only for the bike to flip him as he tried to turn away from the tyre wall.

He was lucky not to have been thrown into the tyres, as it is he landed just short of the wall.

Are the cracks starting to show in the new savior of motogp.

Maybe the force isn't as strong in Roo's pad wan as we first thought ;)

Duc keeps on improving in Dovi's capable hands.  It's former rider a rather disappointing 3rd row starter

First time I really enjoyed the new QP format. Go Dani, Go Dovi.

Glad to see Marky Boy will be competitive tomorrow.

Cal = crash. Mind too focused on the all the dumb .... he said to the press in stead of keeping his head down and racing.

Rossi - no Mugello magic.

Looks like it'll be a long season for Jorge. The Hondas will be tag-teaming the points

all through the season. Barring serious injury to Dani or Marky - I don't see Jorge taking the championship again this year.

Maybe, but he got back up and went out to do a hell of a last lap I thought to get third, though I know he dropped to fourth at the end.

Should be a good race tomorrow.

If he can't focus properly for 15 minutes - he will be hard-pressed to do so for the entire length of the race.

It's been pointed out here countless times - that the talent for qualifying is often not an indicator for competitveness

in racing. Nicky used to drive a lot of crazy pulling off those one or two fast laps in QP only later to finish in 6th or 7th.

What Lorenzo said was right.  To go fast when getting into MotoGP is easy.  It's once you starting getting bitten do you realize how dangerous it is.
