Knowing Lorenzo has made no secret that he isn't going to ride till he's say Rossi's age.

And he intends to retire whilst still young and healthy.

Does anyone think the collarbone injury might encourage him to bail ship at the end of his contract?

I for one hopes it doesn't but me and a mate just had a natter over it,

He seems to think it will.

Ducati??? WTF???

Aprilia would be pissing themselves at present.....

Well done old man, beat all the youngens.

Jorge reminiscent of amazing feats post injury from Doohan, Rossi, Bayliss etc, tough .......s these boys, and that was up there with one of the toughest rides ever.

Cal-classic, seems like this podium had great respect for one and other, and all are hard charging racers who like the fight.....? Not a new age pussy in sight and we have harmony.....

I think it depends on how many titles he has, for example if he was to win this season and the next I think we might see the back of him before the potential Marquez dominance.

It was remarkable that he could ride with it, but a simple collar bone fracture is not a major injury and usually doesn't have any sequelae, is a common injury in football codes etc, and in days gone by they often just put civilians in a sling and let them heal unaided. An injury like Dani's last year when he smashed the thing to pieces may have been more cause for reflection.

My mate seems to think titles or not he will be going at the end of his contract.

Lollo has done an amazing job keeping himself healthy since he came to gp barring the first year on the yam,

He certainly learned the hard way.

This may just be the nudge that sends his thoughts that way.

He was totally shattered at the end of the race, the pain must have been unbearable.

Just a nudge?

Oh I agree I was amazed, and to finish fifth gobsmacking!

I was one of those civilians in a sling once and TBH I got more grief from my two broken ribs.

IIRC I was back on the push bike and gentle dirt riding on a YZ250 after two weeks.

The shoulder was fine but the ribs still held me back.

The plate would have been a huge help for Lorenzo as i should imagine it helped hold everything stable,

However when you take everything else he had to go through, flight, operation, flight back,

Not to mention initial shock and trauma, The pain he was carrying.

The Man is a machine!

But will this nudge him towards retirement?

No doubt he is a tough hombre, and would have been in major pain.

Jumkie, I'm sorry to disappoint you but I am a bit of a Pedrosa fan on the quiet.  Having said that I wasn't keen on Lorenzo, not sure why, though my opinion of him has changed over this last weekend.  There was a tweet that Matt Roberts the BBC guy retweeted and this is what is said:

Interviewer, "You're a hero"

JL99 "No, heroes are those who work hard just to reach the end of each month. I get paid to do these things."

Just for attitude alone Lorenzo has gone up hugely in my estimation.  I hope he doesn't retire like Lil red seems to think he might.

Aw bless, you managed the first 7 words. Well done

Tell you what ... from here on every time you subject us to another one of your tiresome whinges about how Stoner doesn't live up to your standards of manliness (you know... the ones where you confuse belittling your betters with assertive tough-guy behavior) I will likewise post about how glad I'm am that that dimwitted, butt-ugly, finesse-less bumpkin, bull in a china shop, frat-boys wet-dream Simoncelli is no longer destroying expensive GP bikes and needlessly endangering other riders.

As a rule (and not because he's dead) I see no point in doing so since it's a closed book - but since you feel the need take the piss with regards to Stoner who was ten time the rider Simoncelli ever had the potential to be - I will continue to bad mouth Simoncelli in the vague hopes that it may sink in just how tedious it is to be listen you bitch about Stoner well after he's left the sport.

No. Broken collarbones are part of the deal. The fact that he raced 36 hours after surgery tells you how (relatively) simple the injury is. Shoulders and wrists end careers, collarbones are an excruciatingly painful inconvenience. (Which is not to denigrate Lorenzo's amazing achievement in any way).

Unless of course you hit complications like Pedrosa did, who suffered with a screw blocking off blood flow to his arm. That injury made Pedrosa wonder why he bothered, but it wasn't the pain or the problem, but the months of trying to figure out what the problem was. Injuries which take a long time to fix are the ones which sow doubt in the minds of riders.

I can honestly see Lorenzo and Pedrosa signing up for two more years at the end of their current contracts, and then considering retiring. Especially as they will be at the receiving end of serial humiliation by Marc Marquez by then.

Excellent post.

Might I add to that there has been much made of Jorge's heroics and justifiably so, but the consequences of such a horrific accident could have been much worse. As Krop points out shoulder and wrist injuries end careers - think Foggy at Phillip Island. No mention has been made of Bradley Smith's injuries from Mugello which in addition to a finger which looked as though it has been rammed into a liquidiser, includes a fractured scaphoid which is pinned in two places. The sixth place at the Catalan GP, even in spite of the attrition during the race, will stand as one of the rides of the season.

Moi? I thought we were friends!!

That picture of Bradley Smith's finger made my stomach turn over, so thanks for that!!  He did ride incredibly well though, Marquez had a broken finger in Assen as well, I doubt it looked as bad as that one though. If it does and anyone has any pictures, I'll pass thanks!

And By The Way Mr.Jumkie: I AM A PEDROSA FAN ..... So Now What??? :D .....  I know I have to shut my mouth and don't post threads for two weeks ..... :D

You see my signature?  Apply it when appropriate.

Nah, in all seriousness, Pedro is a little ...., but I only dislike him, I don't actually hate him....anymore.  No worries King, there are plenty of closet Pedro fans around here, seem even attempt to 'defend' him.  LOL pronounced > Ehl Oh Elh
