ESTORIL 2011-FP & QP

This is the pre event PR. I don't find what you mentioned here. Provide the link and I would happily apologize.

VALENTINO ROSSI, Ducati Marlboro Team

"With the postponement of the Japanese GP, we've had three weekends without a race, so I was able to ‘unplug' for a while following the GP12 test at Jerez, although I continued training to help my physical recovery. Now we go to Estoril, a track I quite like, where we'll continue working on the GP11's setup, particularly during the test on Monday. The conditions are often unpredictable at Estoril because the area is very windy and close to the ocean, making for variable weather, especially in the spring. Anyway, although we saw at Jerez that we're already competitive in the wet, we're hoping for sun in Portugal so that we can make the most of our time on the track. We still have to understand the bike better, and to work on the setup with the goal of being faster in the dry in time for the most intense phase of the season, when we'll have six races in eight weeks starting in June."

Now regarding the issue at hand

- You agree you knew Rossi didn't benefit at all from Stoner. Earlier you said

As far as Rossi getting a tow we never get to see what is happening in the full sequence. If Rossi or others is slowly circulating waiting for someone to come past and then puts the power down to jump on the back

Now you say

I DO NOT THINK ROSSI WAS GETTING A TOW OF STONER

Your first post implied Rossi might have got a tow unseen in the video sequence we were shown.

All I see is backpedalling with sidestepping the issue saying now Stoner is screwing Rossi's head (which I also think could be the case).

Are you implying that Stoner is lying with the following statement

It can be anything you want it to be. It doesn't have to be true because Stoner is trying to get under Rossi's skin and he is succeeding.

I am a fan of Rossi but I debate with logic and reasoning and not on emotions (You would be hard pressed to find a post by me with blind fanboyism). I don't care whether you compare me to Talpa or JUmkie or someone else.

Peddler just gone out times are around the 1:50

16mins gone track temp must be very very cold

Trust me that the written blurb is far from the whole press conference. If you don't have a subscription then I can not help you. Maybe you can find it on youtube or something. I have a subscription to MotoGP so I have watched it there.

If you think my comment about getting a tow is about that incident than I am sorry as there is nothing more I can say. When I read my comments it is clearly about riders getting a tow in general. If you can not interpret that then I am sorry. Is English your first language? (not being rude or condescending but a genuine question).

I thought I was clear about my thoughts on Stoners intent. It is to get under Rossi's skin. On the live feed 2 minutes ago Gavin Emmett just said that he spoke to Stoner away from the cameras and he was very calm about all the comments he has made which implies to me a strategy.

Ok. No hard feelings. I think it was miscommunication allover..

Renjith I don't think Stoner is justified in what he said about Rossi from what I have seen and read so far about "the tow" but I believe he is doing it for one reason only...to piss Rossi off. And I reckon its working...no one has taken this approach with him before so it will be interesting to see the end result of all these "mind games".

Some of you Rossi fanatics are sooooo highly strung - some of the over the top reactions to this latest incident between the two are simply hilarious. Sure Casey can come across as brash and he has demonstrated a siege mentality in the past - he probably realises no matter what he does he will always be unpopular with a certain section of the MotoGP fan base but I admire him for taking the fight to Valentino rather than cow-towing to Vales every whim which all of Rossis past competitors have done.

He will certainly drive some of you guys to despair if he continues along this path.....which is why I am enjoying his comments so much. I hope he continues to display this attitude towards Valentino all year long because it will be fascinating to observe the bully being bullied back for a change - especially if he can win the title back this year

I would have agreed that it was deliberate smart attempt to get into Rossi's head had Rossi been a title contender this year. Sadly, he is not and it will cost Casey if he continues to focus on Rossi when he should be concentrating on Lorenzo and Pedrosa.

I would say the best way to get into Rossi's head is the way JL does it - ignoring him.

So, I said I would, and I am indeed surprised that Stoner really said that. I don't like my favorite riders fight (off the track I mean).

.... has been stirred, and now we have pages and pages here about mind games and psychological analysis and body language...

But, how can anybody know what's in people's mind? For all we know, it could have been Rossi deliberately following Stoner to unnerve him (I do not believe it, but just to mention a possibility that has not been mentioned).

Regarding who's more nervous, we can only imagine who has more reasons to be nervous...

No worries for Lorenzo who looks the calmest to me, quietly preparing his race. Pedrosa as well (best pace).

Stoner cannot be so happy with Sic and Pedro in front of him. And of course Rossi getting faster as the shoulder heals, on the Ducati that he, like many others, was thinking (and hoping) would prove impossible to ride for him as well.

Rossi was much more nervous at Jerez (and the crash was a proof of that), here I think he's more confident as he sees the end of the tunnel.

Meanwhile, Capirex found a good setup for the conditions. Nice to 'see' him again

Any one of them can do whatever they like but how have people who entertained Rossi faired? I'm not saying it as an order, just advice, I just don't think being worried about what Rossi is doing while being on the track is gonna help Casey go any faster. Why is he even concerned about what was going on between Rossi and Elias or that Rossi was 50 meters behind him. When Casey gets his bike sorted he will be faster than Rossi on lap times and he knows this, so why .... around and waste time playing with Rossi. Remember what Rossi's personality has been described like, a child having fun playing a game, I bet he's having a good ol time pissing Casey off. If they get a chance to meet during the race Rossi will be licking his lips and Casey is gonna be pissed instead of focused. Stop always taking offense to everything, you're getting hot just like your boy and I'm all smiles over here on my couch
<
.

Ask Uccio.

Now now Jums....even Caseys fellow countryman (Mick) has said that bumping fairings is part and parcel of racing. Casey needs to grow some balls, grit his teeth and get in about it because no matter how much you go on about Rossi being rough or whatever, its not going to change.
<

Bumping fairings? So that's what Rossi was doing at Jerez.

the times in the last practice need to be explained a bit. Stoner only used Rains. In the last 6 min, the ducati's all had slicks on and posted much improved times because of them.

Ah, it was just the slicks then -- thanks for the head up

I agree 100% that Casey should not lose focus on JLo and Pedro at the expense of focusing all his energy on Rossi - strategically that would be very foolish as they are far tougher opponents at this stage of the game.

Stoner needs to be careful with this strategy as he risks looking like a chump if it backfires but I think he probably has very little respect left for Valentino after the incidents of the last few years and wants to rile him and perhaps force an error. Vale is desperate at the moment to be competitive and seen as still relevant in the championship battle and Stoner probably hopes his barbs will dent Valentinos ego enough to lead him into making another silly mistake.

Is Stoner being fair in saying some of the things that have come out recently....probably not - but were Rossi's recent comments about Lorenzo and Stoner fair either....probably not

I think Stoner has probably accepted the fact that he is the villain in the eyes of many fans and has decided that he can not change that unless he kills (metaphorically speaking) the hero. The best way to kill the hero is to break the love affair that the fans have with the him. If he can make Rossi seem emotional and nasty whilst putting a spotlight on the favouritism which will cast a cloud over the achievements then this could do just that. He will probably always be the villain but at least he can be the one who killed the hero unlike the ones that have preceded him.

Yes he could cure cancer and some people would still complain about it.....best off he just remains steadfast and true to himself. Unlike Vale I dont think he craves the love and affection of the whole world - which is lucky because he has little hope of ever achieving that hehe
