2018 Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley

Nobody is booing Lorenzo. In fact people are singing along to the Spanish national anthem.

I thought the ongoing narrative was that the yellow crowd boos everyone not named Rossi!

I wonder why a certain rider is the only one who gets booed! Hmmm...

He is the one winning championships.

Jorge Lorenzo today: "Non si può confrontare la mia esperienza in Ducati con quella di Rossi: sono epoche diverse, la ducati ora è più competitiva mentre quella di Rossi era più complicate".

"I can't compare my experience in Ducati with Rossi's; they were two different eras, the Ducati is more competitive now whereas Rossi's Ducati was more complicated".

Confirmation of Stoners greatness

I saw someone online say that Lorenzo was booed on the podium, if true it kind of destroys Synns argument.

I said it after qualifying and I will say it again.

There is so much mutual respect between Rossi and Lorenzo right now and it was blatantly obvious after the race and in the interview.

I think that’s Rossi appreciated Lorenzo for making the same leap of faith that he did and actually taming the beast while J.Lo finally understood what an uphill task Rossi faced after his move.

These two aren’t going to be BFFs, but I won’t be surprised if they carry on some sort of a friendship and admiration well after their careers are done.

Lin Jarvis must be feeling like a proud mom after her fighting sons made up. :D

Good you acknowledgment this. Notice how no one on this sad forum even mention the joking, laughing and hand shakes between Jorge and Rossi during press conference? Rossi also call Jorge a 'top rider'. Doesn't fit narrative here of Rossi being some kind of back stabbing devil who only win with special tires or Dorna's help.

It hurts their birdbrains and then they revert to their standard phrase book for gems like “SNS! Stoner was moar betterer! Valeban!” Etc.

So even a third placing (a creditable one I don't dispute) is cause for much exuberance for you guys these days?. And after years of being a 'devil' to many Rossi fans Rossi being civil to Jorge on the podium after a dominant race win by him is enough to rehabilitate him?.

Yamaha have realised they need Jorge, perhaps with some encouragement from Dorna, and hence so does Rossi as a future team principal who will run Yamahas. That Petronas money would transfer quite nicely to a VR 46 team, and Vinales doesn't look as though he can do much except ride the bike which is handed to him, and hence can't be Yamaha's sole future, and most other candidates are inexperienced. All appearances are that Jorge has contributed to the quality of the bike at least at Ducati, and he is certainly the best available rider for any Yamaha seat, as Rossi was for 2013.

One thing I hadn't considered about a future VR46 team is that Valentino in his early 40s should be a rather handy test rider, and as far as I am aware there are no restrictions on test riding by team principals.

You know, I was blown away by Mav' early last year and have defended him up until recently, but you're right Michael, he really does not seem to be able to sort out, or ride around problems. It almost makes you think that maybe Yamaha should look at getting in some new 'young blood' to partner their old 'war horse(s)'.

it's true, and it was perfectly audible on TV.

You really think 150k Rossi fans could shut up in front of a victory of the only guy that they hate almost as much as MM??

and Lorenzo's honesty

Would also add humility.

This has been a lesson for Jorge (as it was Vale before him) and the humble pie may not taste great, but sometimes how one recovers from this kind of thing says more about the individual than many of their previous successes.

Congrats to Jorge, I predicted he would get a win on the Duc this year. Curious if Jorge's Duc starts having reliability issues for the remainder of the season.

Wow, what a race. Without the bitter you can't truly taste the sweet. I really wanted to see Jorge nail at least one win on the Ducati and nail it he sure did. Solid rides by Dovi and Valentino as well. Was a shame to see Marc not recover from that front end loss that seemed to go on forever, would have only made it more exciting to see him in the mix for a podium. It's nice to see the points tally getting compressed again though.

When is Jorge going to release his own launch control software to production bikes? It would fly off the shelves I tell ya.

Wait, what? When Maverick got the factory ride your narrative and those of your ilk here was that Valentino would have his hands full, that Maverick was much quicker, would prove tougher competition than Yor-... and that Maverick would put Rossi in his pocket and send him packing to retirement. Now that the opposite happen, it is suddenly 'Maverick not as good'. Maybe he is very good except he's been outclassed by even better rider. Of course, can't expect this sad forum to admit they were wrong...

Don’t bother.
The goalpost is shifted according to whatever the most recent situation is.

No, my narrative was that Vinales should have been allowed to continue with the tire on which he started the season and was having good results, and that going with a 38 year old Rossi over Jorge who had won the last 3 titles won by a Yamaha rider or over a guy who had showed the early season form of Vinales last season as also appeared to be the choice Yamaha made were not the best tactical or strategic choices. I don’t think a third at this race and second in the championship, largely by consistency rather than outright pace proves me wrong as yet. He is not even very far ahead of Vinales for that matter, and the season is young.

I think Vinales needs Jorge to sort the Yamaha for him, actually.

That's a nice way of looking at but I'm not sure if I believe Rossi having "so much mutual respect for Lorenzo". Rossi is mind game player and I can't help but attribute Maverick's performances to a little of that creeping in.

Maybe I'm wrong and I will concede that Rossi is usually quite generous at the end of a race but I can't help but think that he reserves his 'games' for those that are an imminent threat to him. At the moment Jorge, isn't that.

You do realize that Rossi score zero points in Argentina after being rammed off the track while Vinales score 11? Keep trying to spin it anyway you like. You and others have been wrong on Maverick putting Rossi in his pocket.
