Ducati were furious at Redding for not letting Dovi in front of him IIRC.

I meant he would have never let him pass on this very race. My bad I didn't specify it properly.

However, now that he is on a factory team for the first time ever I do not assume he'd let Dovi pass if he'd be winning a race just because of something he did 4 years ago (which to be clear, I didn't like at all either).

If Dovi and Marquez were really close in points and at a crucial race Danilo would be in the equation it'd be natural if he'd let Dovi go, which was my point in the latest part of the post you quoted.
 
Nah it ain't like that, it's just that a part of the box is probably a bit pissed about losing a few points to Marquez. Dovi was pissed mainly cause he knows that he could have won but got 3rd.

Petrucci talked about helping Dovi since the beginning of the season. Not sure if you know but Petrux moved to Forlì (the place where Dovi hails from and lives) to train with him after Dovi kinda invited him to do so. The two are very close, as much as you can be given their jobs positions obviously.

Lorenzo and the map8 thing happened simply because Jorge couldn't stand to obey anyone nor to act like a "second" rider, but shouldn't you in a similar situation help a team that is paying you 12.5mln per year try to win a title?

ALL Ducati wants is a title, the only Ducati rider who currently seems able to aim at a title is Dovizioso. It is obvious that in any team there are some sort of internal "rules" to face certain situations, as much as I don't like it myself, racing is ALSO a business...that being said Danilo did what he had to. He'd never let Dovi pass or anything, he probably just got told to be a little bit more careful with aggressive overtakes in the future. Ducati simply doesn't want another Rio 2016.

Nothing more nor less than that IMHO.

Stands to reason that while there's no team rule about not passing your teammate - it'd be expected that when doing do - you don't do it recklessly, or in a manner that creates an unnecessary risk of taking out your teammate or a needless risk of damaging the overall team effort for the sake of an extra couple of points when you're nowhere's in the championship. Recall if you will Pedrosa in 2006 taking out Nicky. I don't recall Dovi ever intentionally putting a rough pass on any rider who hadn't already done the same.

The question of what takes precedent: Team effort or Personal glory, will always be debated.

agreed, but in this case it maybe was a simple miscalculation by Petrucci, he may have estimated his effort won't interfere with Marc-Dovi duel. His decision was made in race conditions, the heart working overtime and no time for cool calculations.

Indeed mate. I guess I’m torn...on one hand I love riders to be sorta selfish and do whatever it takes to win, on the other hand I am aware (and at times even kind of fascinated) of the fact that racing is also a business and that companies invest millions and millions in everything that needs to be done to be competitive, which is why I for example don’t feel like blaming any “map8” situations.

Both things make sense: without business we wouldn’t have racing as it is and without racing the business wouldn’t exist. It’s a circle

IMO it’s still way too early in the season to play favorites. It’s understandable to do it near the end of the season . At this point riders should win on merit. With Marquez so dominant, waiting till the end of the season maybe too late for Ducati so might as well start now!!

Making instantaneous decisions is right at the top of the list of what makes a great rider. Racers in all forms of motorsport over the years have said the same thing, in so many words, more times than you can count: Racing isn't so much about big balls or best physique; it's all between the ears. I don't fault Petrucci for making the move. Knowing you have the capacity to be on top of the podium while beating two of the best - had to be totally irresistible. He knew it was not going to be a super clean, gentlemanly pass, and he went for it. I'd bet $100.00 that nobody in the Ducati garage had any issue with it (with the proviso that he didn't take out his teammate). Dovi looked a bit faded in those last two laps. I think if it had just been MM and Dovi at the front and Petrux two seconds behind, Dovi could have won the day. It was just too much to ask, him fighting off phenom MM and a young mentee on the same machinery. And it's not just about the win, but also, Petrucci had the perfect opportunity to prove once and for all that he had the killer instinct that so many did not believe he had.

I've watched that last corner overtake dozens of times and TBO it was Dovi and Marc that chewed it up and allowed Petrux win, now he's 4th and I think he's a threat, after all how long has Dovi got left, he's being far to careful IMO when he gets to the front, stupid typre management when they have got that sorted as evidenced by Petrux.
I'm losing my rag with Dovi, he's turning into a care-bare.
 
Dovi almost sounds entitled about Petrucci’s pass. From Danilos words it sounds a lot like all Ducati riders are expected to help Dovi even if that means giving him a position. Petrucci said something like ‘for the rest of the season I will help Dovi but I really wanted to win this one.’ Mapping 8 anyone? Because of that I fee that Dovi and Ducati should go .... themselves.

Have seen from a few sources that this is the very reason why Miller will NOT get the factory ride - he does not want to be, and will not be subservient to a team mate and yet it is what Dovi wants as he wants the #1 plate in the team

Purpose in this case was simple - the top pick in full resolution some may want as a wallpaper etc - but then, I also forget that so few of the good ones have left that the market, nay demand is far less today

Below is a snippet from Tug McClutchin (Yamaha getting it all wrong):

Rossi spent most of the day digging himself out of the gravel, and ended up staying there in the end. His wretched season continues. His qualifying performance was crap, and so was his racing. There are conversations about the bike, but he’s the same guy that also claims to be one of the best development riders around too. That’s not working well for him right now. And his fans continue to look for excuses, although they are becoming more laughable by the day. Especially since that French kid with the funny name is belting him, on last year’s bike, with an engine that Yamaha has tuned down a bit to stop him from embarrassing Rossi. It appears Yamaha can’t even get that right.

IMHO Mugello is better...I'd say only Phillip Island is comparable to it, but Mugello wins because it's more complete.

I have unfortunately ridden Mugello only once, but that still gave me some understanding of it.

It has everything a track could have: uphills, downhills, a huge straight, strong braking points, fast corners, slow parts, and moreover it doesn't have any parts where it's hard to overtake.

Add the layout to the equation and that's it :rolleyes:
 
It would be my choice track to run of them all...not a dog like Indy. I do fondly remember the last days of the 250 2-strokes there and that wonderful noise.

Agreed. Only ridden there twice but can't wait to get back later this year.
