2018 Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley - Mugello

Wow! Surely best race of the season.

As much as I'm not a fan of Petrux, amazing ride today, it meant so much for him.

Marquez could have won but he shouldn't be disappointed. If he's second in Mugello by +0.0s, I think he's got the championship in his pocket.

Great recovery drive by Dovi, he didn't seem comfortable all weekend. But he has no reason to celebrate either. Beaten by both his teammate and his rival. I expected more.

IMHO, Rins is the driver of the day by far. I couldn't help but think that this bike DIDN'T belong there! But he was simply magnificent. Hats off, he is starting to grow in me, such a smooth and fast driver.

What a race!! Insanely fun to watch with the 5 best riders today fighting without fear especially in the first laps.
I feel bad for Miller, and really happy to watch petrux winning a race, especially in that type of race. Great effort by Marc who seems struggling to me in this track, he achieved a very good result. Dovi did great but that first corner in the last lap get him out of the fight. Quartararo didn't find his pace on this sunny sunday but anyways he keep looking good for the future, especially for yamaha with his riding style. Maverick struggling again with the strart.

And finally i'm so proud of Alex Rins who came from 13th to 4th in an insanely race by him, fighting with the best of the best today despite of being slower than them on the straight. Incredible overtakes and effort until he (i think) lost that extra in the corners because of the great effort at the start.
Sorry for my english, i'm trying it without translator LOL
Im new in the forum and i like to have this motogp talks with you guys cya

Welcome Mate! Yeah - that was a first lap for the ages.

I can’t help but feel that 2016 Mugello was karma for Rossi’s carry on in 2015 and this year was karma for the carry on at Argentina.

Side note: contact from Dovi probably cost Marquez the win. It was a racing incident and myself as a Marquez fan couldn’t give two flicks of piss about it. It’s racing, it happens but imagine the outpour if The exact same thing happened to Rossi.

A fantastic race. I was mentally tired when the race wasn't even at half distance. I was seriously entertained by Rins this race. He rode extremely well. I thought he'd have petered out in the last laps but no, he hung in there. I'd have given him rider of the race, but I have to say Petrucci deserves that accolade today.

What a ride by Petrucci! :1a: .... and to think of where he has come from to get to this point of being able to take the fight to MM and Dovi, and prevailing after a titanic battle.

MM is amazing though. On the aggressive side, but amazing. The way he throws the bike into the corners is amazing to watch.

Fabio, as I thought, simply demonstrated that the Yamaha can be coaxed into a single lap special, but over a race distance, there seem to be problems.

Rossi?

To be fair Rossi would have won today if it wasn't for the mechanical failure the caused his bike to crash and cost him the win, no fault of his own. Luckily for the others Rossi could tell the bike was not right very early on, he deliberately hung back in 18th so as to not impede the leaders... absolutely perfect timing in hindsight as his Yamaha suffered catastrophic failure soon after... no wonder they call him the GOAT

Hung back in 18th after ploughing into the back of Mir you mean, typical rookie mistake, how old is he?

Loved all 3 races, incredible and MotoGP was like a moto3 race, great entertainment. Glad Petrux has made it one, now how many more can he get.

Win? Lol no. He had great pace when he passed Slowlenzo, so a top 10 between 5-10 easy.

@ underandoverit..."Yamaha as .... as usual."....

Or certain factory riders were.

Hey guys, long time lurker...

What a race! A bunch of wolves fighting for the kill no quit in any of them...Marc though is something else, just not able to feel fear. The 2 Dukes did a scissor move on him and he didn't flinch.

Too bad about Yamaha, they must miss Lorenzo more each race. Rossi is calling all the shots there and cant sort it out. I have a feeling the fan club stayed around to hope for a crash from MM or to boo at the end.

Gday mate, welcome.

I know what you mean, Yamaha have dropped the ball some time ago and not properly recovered, they show a glimmer of hope from time to time with some podiums (even a win at PI) and just when you think they might be onto something, they fall back off the perch.

Welcome Dude. BTW - there were fans booing when MM took the podium. Whose fans? I don't know.

Hey thanks.

It HAS to be the tires, right? How much data does Rossi/Lin have over the years? Mountains. Unless the budget went down, Rossi lost that killer instinct you need to win, even though he does fight for position.

What a cracking race!!

Shame for Miller to go down, might have lost the potential factory ride right there.

That last lap turn 1 was epic. How the three continued? I don't know.

This sport just gets beter and better.

Rins & Suzuki are coming. To be so close at Mugello!

I think its a combination of things like tyres, standardised electronics, the performance being closer between manufacturers, the bikes development path and the riders. I dont think there will be one magic solution or fix that puts them back in the championship game.
Vinales qualifies well and comes on later in the race, Rossi qualifies poorly but does a good job of picking them off to get near the pointy end. Given that the gap across the field now is so small, they need a bike that can perform really strong across a broader selection of tracks and conditions rather than just some here and there. Quartararo has shown that the bike can have the one lap pace required even when its down on top end speed at a place like Mugello.

Edit:
The Suzuki seems to hold the torch for the inline 4's, id love to see them have a satellite team.
