What's it all about Vale?

Bradl and Bautista were not much of a threat this season and doubt that will change next season. Pol will be interesting but i think he will have a slow start to the season. All eyes on Nicky and this proddy bike. Only time will tell as they say.

I thought Stefan would be closer this year, but he is still learning, For me if ever Rossi needed to justify his place on that bike it was on Sunday, he could and should have put pressure on the Hondas to aid Jorge, but he barely beat Alvaro, Also it is only down to Cal's mistakes and misfortune and not Rossi's ability that he finished forth.

Isn't Scott basically getting the same bike as Nicky next year also? I can see him having some strong finishes also.

Give him time to get used to tyres and brakes and he will be on it, if Scott and Pol carry over in a similar way to MM, next year will be fantastic.

Just what I was saying bud, poor show by Vale. I have to say though, despite his moto2 title, Bradl has the same "mobile chicane, street furniture " vibe that Hayden had in his (pardon the pun) Hey day.

I'm not doubting Pol or Reddings commitment and ability but i think because of the learning curve they wont settle until midway into the season. By then the Factory Yam bikes will also improve so the gap will remain the same. Putting my bet and a bottle of booze aside, i hope i am wrong. More bikes fighting for wins can only be good for the sport.

I see your point, but it never stopped MM, he had the same learning curve, and look where we are today, he is a very talented boy, but he also took something other than talent with him.

MM had something like 18 crashes this last season. Lucky for him he tends to bounce quite well. He found the limit by stepping over it, not every racer wants to learn that way.

You've got it, MM is lucky to be in this era, the 1000s are small, very similar in size to a 600, he has arrived with no respect for the bike, he rides it in a very similar way to his 600, some say he opens the throttle earlier and that is correct, but he also did the same in moto2, he tries to ride it like a small bike, if you know what I mean, in areas where they short shift he hangs on in a lower gear for longer putting his faith in the electronics, In 1991 Paul Malin was given the perimeter framed factory 500 Kawasaki, Paul was a very fast 125 mx rider, when he was given the SR it was small (unlike the old 500) and he started to ride it in the same way he used to ride his 125s, open the throttle as early as possible and let it rev, he won GPs, he looked like a crash waiting to happen, but it worked, MM is doing the same in my opinion, if Pol or Scott can do the same it will be great fun.

I don't know, Bautista gave him a run for his money a few times this season,

Bautista is still young and can only improve IMO ;)

Maybe in some races mate but in the championship he was still 66 points below Rossi and even ended up a p[lace lower than Cal.

Posterity will remember his winning years Pete, particularly given there were so many of them; Eddie Lawson, who seems to have similarly miscalculated at the end of his career, isn't remembered for his Cagiva years, although that one win for them was quite memorable I guess.

I agree Valentino could have and probably should have retired at the end of 2009, with totally unchallenged status; nobody seriously considered Agostini his superior. He seemed to imply in 2008 that he would retire if he won again in 2009, and I still wonder if he didn't change his mind, with the whole Lorenzo imbroglio a result of that change of mind. One can only assume he needed the money after the tax thing, or that he just can't give up the life, as seems to be the case with Colin Edwards on a smaller scale. With the best will in the world I can't see him winning the 8th championship to match Ago now.

I think he was still Valentino after the injury in 2010, as the late season victory demonstrated. I have been thinking for a while though (giving away my age again) that he is something like John L Sullivan, the long time world heavyweight champion, in the old Errol Flynn boxing movie, who was wont to slam his fist down on entering a bar and proclaim "I can beat any man in the world".  I am not sure Valentino believes this any more after not pushing things at Ducati for 2 years to protect life and limb. Simoncelli's death can't have helped either both in general and in terms of intimations of his own mortality.

The recently announced new crew chief puzzles me. There can perhaps be argument about the manner in which it was done, but I had thought it was a sound move to change from JB given that things obviously weren't working and JB was making public statements which suggested he had lost faith himself. However he appears to have selected another old stager, one who perhaps will give him unquestioning support, rather than a younger technical wizard who might help him in the set-up war which he and JB started to lose against Jorge and Forcada even in 2009 on the occasional week-end.

Also true but Vale will be a year older next season,

If only Alvaro could get the brembo's and Ohlins he would be in front of Vale IMO.

Lets face it he did wonders with the zook , till he stacked it   ;)

Lets not forget Bradley, his has done very well on a two year old bike with no upgrades at all, he will get this years bike for next season, I expect a lot from him.

I wonder how the new fuel limit will effect riders on this years bike next year.

Bradley had a far better rookie season than Cal I expect him to have a better 2nd year than Cal did. He will be harassing Rossi from the start I imagine. Even after Dani breaks his collar bone I think Jums will still have the edge on his bet because of Smith.

Me too. By the way what difference in fuel allowance will there be for the production racers compared to the factory bikes?
