In fact, Rossi kept on going over 10 laps with that worn out tyre… here’s a couple of pics at ‘3 laps to go’ too!

Chris V had a very mixed bag of a race didn't he.

I could imagine that to be taken out would be hard enough to take, but to get back on his bike and work his way up to finnish 11th was fantastic.

Just checked out his lap times and he was lapping very similar lap times to Stoner after the fall and than posted the fastest lap of the race in one of the last laps.

Will be looking out for his progress this year.

Wow, good for him to even finish with a tyre that ......!

Rossi's comments are a bit warranted though:

Elias has done the same thing before but with different consequences (Jerez 06), I don't think he likes him anymore!
<

I think the pass Elias did was borderline, just as I think Rossi's pass at Jerez '05 was. It's very close to being bad sportsmanship but I think it should be within the rules. The difference if any, I would say, is timing: 12 Laps to go vs. last corner. In other words, he could have chosen a better point to pass. Elias does take a lot of chances but hopefully both he and his competitors will be ok. He is great fun to watch and I hope to see more of him.
As for Rossi's whining, they all whine when they are disappointed, but even more so, Elias' pass was borderline, in other words, it was dangerous. Strange but when you feel your life is unnecessarily put in danger by others it has a tendency to piss you off. Doesn't really matter if you done similar mistakes yourself. Hypocrite? I think that is to harsh. Besides, off the record I bet 120% of the riders would say similar things and worse about their opponents. While I agree that there are limits, and some might look a little pitiful and over the top, I find the search some in here have to find their worthy knight in shining armour, the righteous and truthful rider that never whine or complain, always praise their fellow riders, but take it home in the end. Pure humor.

toni was a bit of ..... Not impresed by stoner at all, and its a shame dani got knocked of so early. But this is racing so this things happen. if it wasnt for the 3rd place fight this would have been a boring race. I thought toni was gonna play it smart and follow rossi to close the gap betwwen him and stoner and then go for the win in the last few laps.

I agree they commented he's let Rossi drag him up in the past. Oh well next race he'll probably be back to 10/11th whatever he normally comes + hopefully we'll be back winning

was dissapointed in todays race specialy with elias for riding like a 3 year old on a tricycle geez if you got a line stick to it, rossi should have just gone into his garage and rammed a wrench up his backside. imagine elais done that on the first corner it would be A DISASTER.

until next time

I agree aout Stoner where was he in the second race? This weekend Ducati for their power on the massive straight + Bridgestone for a brilliant tyre won that race. Im not saying Stoner doesn't have skill but he couldnt apply it in the 2nd race.

even oj says he felt some one from behind hit him.

I agree with you roger. Even despite what OJ says, as crashes happen fast and can be confusing. I was watching that insident in slow mo several times. The Norwegian commentators saw that some one touched OJ and first I said hell no, who should that be. But later I had to agree, Pedrosa did hit OJ's rear. The only question is if that directly influenced the crash or not. To me it looks like it did.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Mr. Shupe @ Apr 22 2007, 11:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I'm assuming this phrase comes from a while back, when pots and kettles were made of iron and, therefore, were black. When someone says "pot calling the kettle black," it is usually accusing someone of being hypocritical. If the black pot calls the kettle black, then the pot is a hypocrite. In this case, Rossi "calls the kettle black" if he accuses Elias of riding dangerously (remember Jerez '05?).

Nice explaining there Mr Shupe.

I see your point Babelfish, but did you not see Rossi's pass on Hopper a couple of laps before? Looked fairly similar to Elias' pass to me bar the touch. That's why I can't really agree with Rossi on that score, he wasn't on the last lap either, but I suppose it depends on your bias really. Notwithstanding Jerez 05, just Turkey 07, I can't see how Rossi has the gall to complain. but all adds to the drama for the next race. BRING IT ON

now this is the kind of racing i like...

Tom i take back my comment of the 800's lacking character.... they're showing something now.

well controlled by stoner and elias..... wish i could've said the same for Jacque though...

Like Rossi said when he pushed Sete out of the track in Jerez 2005 .... "Eeees motorbike racing!"

And you should be impressed by Stoner!

I knew you would be the first to liken the Jerez incident to this one Teo, coz i thought along the same lines!
it was a legal move and certainly one that rossi would've considered had the positions been swapped.

Tough ....... for rossi, the spainards are getting their own back

Times 10! He was kickass... from the crash right through to the race end he rode that bike with a bent handlebar. 20 laps worth.... he's a machine.

All fairness to Tony Elias that's racing, the boy is finally coming good.

Nice pictures BTW I will try and get some decent shots at the Chinese GP!

What makes this such a great race? To me it was almost as boring as the Jerez race. Stoner went away allmost imediatly. Second place was open a few more laps than at Jerez, but there was a bad crash taking out potential top runners. On the other hand the 3rd was open all the way, but just like jerez, the fight for 3rd - 7th has IMO limited interest when there is no fight for the 1st.

Stoner did a very good job, congrats to him. It bugs me though that Rossi got the tire probem. Without it he would have catched up. A fight between him and Stoner could have made this a greate race.
Elias did a very solid race, allthough I think his timing of "really on the edge and dengerous moves" could have been better. Those moves really don't belong in mid race, but then again, they all have misstakes like this, and this time he was lucky and didn't make it a .... up like rossi's pass/crash on melandri in japan or last years pedrosa/hayden.

i like elias and lately he has been exciting to watch. i notice tho he one one of the only riders that still back the bikes in on these 800. this style is handy to keep people behind you because you make yourself a wider obsticle to pass but it can be a bit dangrous to overtake riders with this style, they tend to square off in front of the person they have overtaken, its called a block pass and is common in motorcross and motogp a few years ago, i think its just a mix of styles getting in the way of eachother. elias is a brain out racer sometimes so i can understand why some would think him a bit reckless or dangrous ..exciting stuff for us to watch on tv ,so i say thats not judge riders post race comments to harshly.

I don't agree with the top part, but +1 for that part. That's what I was going to post.

I'd love to know what went wrong with his tyre. He did not over ride it, he's a freaking 7x champ, he knows not to do that.

I find it absolutely hilarious that Mr. "That's Racing" would find it appropriate to comment of Elias's passing maneuvers. Elias brought a big smile to my face in the last race absolutely taking it to everyone and having it sideways everywhere. The man seems to be displaying some of the drive that racers like Rossi, Biaggi, Gibbers and a few others have shown when they are willing to go completely all out to get the best place possible. I'd like to see some other people (Nicky) throw caution to the wind and hang it out like Toni Elias.

when you read the full Rossi interview it comes across as slightly less of a school girl whine but it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I think saying things like 'that's two I owe him' and 'just wait til China' is frankly a bit childish. If Rossi thinks that Elias was riding dangerously then they should lodge a formal complaint (i think they have) and keep their mouths shut IMO - now if something should happen between the two in China Rossi has f himself - whatever the cause, it's going to be Rossi's fault because he's just told the whole world that it's pay-back time.

From where I sat (although I appreciate Rossi had a better view) - it looked like a hard manouvre but as I've said - I've seen Rossi do similar stuff.

PS - I hardly think we can say that "Elias beat Rossi in a straight-up fight and Rossi doesn't like it" (or words to that effect)

Rossi clearly had a problem and therefore the terms where not level - I like Elias & I like watching him ride but being good at the odd track doesn't make you a world champion.

yeah yeah - I'm a cheerleader
