Anybody who thinks Stoner will come out of retirement in a few years is kidding themselves. For starters he wouldn't be offered a factory ride in 2 years time and he just ain't interested. He dislikes pretty much everything to do with motoGP bar the racing.

If I was him I'd start my own TV fishing show.

I wouldn't rule out Rossi back to Honda. Before he went to ducati it was talked about and whether he had burned that bridge. It was said that it's now all new people at honda from when rossi was last there so no burned bridges.

So what ........... Chopperman,, Rossi back on a Honda hey, what cant he ride a Ducati? Stoner can and well.

What haters really? The media? The message boards. How much of what is written on the internet spills over to real life.

I have my doubts that he experiences very little if any negative and hurtfull comments from fans or journalists in everyday life

I cant speak for GP in uncivilized countries like Spain and Italy but most GP weekends are a 3 day love affair from the fans.

Its not like a football or soccer match where the athletes are subject to brutal verbal attacks.

If hes letting internet ..... haters like my self get under his skin then surely he is weak minded

You guys should be grateful. If he was a really nasty guy he could stay around for several more years and win a large number of titles just to further piss you off.

I'm curious at to who is going to be so hated next year? No one for the Rossi fans to get so worked up about. Who is the next villain?

I dont understand why the Aussies are all supporting Stoners decision.

Because next year we won't have to read the usual ........ about Stoner. No whinging about him, no whining about him, none of the vilification.

He's going out at the top of his career - a dual world champion at least. He's going out holding to his convictions whether we agree with him or not.

Good luck to him. I wish I could have retired at 26 having achieved the dream, set for life, beautiful wife and nothing to worry about.

I know it's a rhetorical question, but I guess it doesn't hurt to repeat myself: Stoner is retiring because for emotional/mental/psychological reasons, he can't take it anymore. It's not because he wants to spend more time with his family, or because he has nothing left to prove.

Maybe. So he's no Mick Doohan, a madman on a bike or just a total prick revered by all, including his own team apparently. But Mick later admitted regret in destroying relationships during that time, including with his highschool sweetheart. Stoner is clearly not of a similar mindset. Then again Doohan nominated Wayne Rainey as his toughest competitor, yet Rainey admitted being completely depressed lining up on the grid in 93 and hating every minute. It gets to all of them. Then there's Anthony Gobert. Or John Koscinski. I think Stoner is leaving in a good place to be regarding the rest of his life. Putting it all in perspective, we expect them to be Gods, yet they are mere humans, flawed like the rest of us.

It does hurt to repeat yourself because you just removed all doubt as to your lack of intellect, non-existent grip on reality and confirmed that you are just an insecure, unloved fool who is respected by no-one.

FTE - Krop has said that Honda have offered twice the existing salary plus.

Money is not the thing

so close to 20 mill for one season and he declines it?

found a whole new level of respect for stoner!

You may want to speak to the Donington crowd about that - he even got boo'ed at a charity auction there back in '07 or '08.

Good for him to make the decision while he can still has 10 fingers and can walk without a limp, but he's leaving a huge hole in the sport. This is Barry Sanders walking away from the NFL as the best RB in the game, Bjorn Borg retiring at 26. Let's see if he can make this a season to remember.

Actually I reckon people such as yourself are the weak of mind.....it is one of the easiest things in the world to sit behind a keyboard and criticise those who actually excel at what they do and I cant actually recall a single post of yours which wasnt negative, vindictive or insulting....It must really suck to be you.

That is not to say Stoner should be precluded from criticism as he has done things during his career which are worthy of negative comments....only problem is the criticism from certain individuals has been relentless and is usually completely illogical and misguided....irrational hatred will poison your ability to function as a normal human being....and you are a perfect example of exactly that.

uh,don't say that. as long as you're witty, intellect and respect towards others don't really matter

Marquez when he comes up as he will be a threat straight up and will be on a factory-non-factory bike (think Checa's Ducati for an example).

Pedrosa ........... just because people have to.

Lorenzo again

The actual recipient will depend a lot on what happens at Ducati as (IMO here) if VR stays at Ducati and the results remain where they are (ie. not good) then much of the hatred will be focussed at Ducati (not Rossi).

The Rossi hating Stoner fans (ie. the many CSCVAW variants, Scotty etc) will disappear for a while before re-emerging with new names and new favourites to continue playing keyboard warrior games in the forum whilst taking a rest from their 'dungeons and dragons' type lives.

Just saw the press conference again. I'm a bit conflicted. I kind of felt both respect and pity for Stoner. I'd like to give him a big hug. (I'm not being funny).

Btw, reading a bit of Casey's defenders above, I think some of you have lost sight of what he is saying in your attempt to defend his decision. Trying to argue the particulars is where some of you are going wrong and just shows your tribalism rather than sound logic. It goes for some over the top detractors, Stoner decision has some merit. Its an emotional reaction all around. I think the best we can do is simply say, its his decision as its his life.

wow.. what a decision.. good for him i guess, but i'd probably milk some more money at least.. its not like he's got a billion in the bank, a few cameos and what not to make some ends at some point if he wants.. but like previously said, no limp.. no digits missing.. perfectly healthy and having accomplished what you set out to do, i suppose its a good decision.. this is a very risky sport, and if nothing else, he has enough money to invest in some business he likes and perhaps live off for good.. anyway, a true rider of everything they threw at him.. and definitely up there with the best in skill.. huge for him to leave

With that said, Casey is the only one that has the ability to turn motogp into what he wants it to be. He may not be the goat but all eyes and ears are on him at the moment. And if he was strong he would stick around and fight for the better of motogp. But that is not the road he is going to walk. Instead he chooses to turn his back on the sport that gave him everything, and to me it shows he is as weak as we the haters have always thought.

Dub, the simple situation is that Stoner has made mention of numerous aspects to the racing, rules and formula and what he has felt to be poor decisions but each time he has been ignored by most and ridiculed as whinging by many,

Fact is, the decision makers do not listen so how can he make a difference?

Personaly, if (and this is a big if), if he is leaving because the sport is going against what he feels is a better way, than to me that is an amazingly brave (some will say idiotic) and principled decision and more power to him.

We all sit here and bemoan that DORNA do not listen, so who knows whether they may now start to wonder themselves WTF?

I dont understand why the Aussies are all supporting Stoners decision.

I dont know the Aussie culture other then what the great and hilarious Paul Hogan has taught us but most of America is blue collar hard working folk. The reason why we are the most productive nation on the planet is because we are taught a very strong work ethic.

There is a distinct difference between the european work attitude and ours.

Maybe Aussies share the same attitude as the Euros and find this more acceptable but where I come from he looks like a whining quitter

Leaving out cultural stereotypes, to be fair there obviously must be cultural differences.

Sports stars are revered in Australia, some would argue excessively. But getting out at the top is actually something that garners respect/is regarded as quite a positive thing rather than warranting criticism in Australia, although we don't mind sportsmen continuing past their peak for love of the game or economic necessity either. No-one would criticise anyone who was set up for life for not chasing more money though, and there is often respect for those who take less money for staying loyal to the team where they have had their success, and sometimes disappointment with if not criticism of those who leave in the pursuit of more money.

BTW Stoner to F1 still Young enough to do it + more likely Aus v8's Barry will be happy

I am twisted on this. Of course I am sad to see him go. I respect that he is retiring at a young age. I respect that he is willing to give this all up. But I dont respect the reasons he gave for leaving. You let the haters get the best of you CS? Really? Or are they just the scapegoat.? Whatever the reason is you let the haters be proven right and you let down your fans not the haters. Every person at the top of any game get treated in such a manner. Love or hate. But its not that. Its about rivalry and us as fans(some) enjoy some insane sports banter. not just motogp but all sports and no one, I mean no one quits over it. Its truly sad and honestly I hope there is another reason the CS is not telling us, and I really dont care if he ever does tell us.

'MdubSTYLIE’ your words prove what an ..... you really are and don’t appreciate a champion! Now boofhead…let me tell you some truths about a man that has continually battled adversity and personalities and frictions with supporters of motogp and the opponents that he faced when he came into this sport…if you care to reconcile and look at the past Stoner came into motogp when motogp had some of the most talented riders in its history boofhead and so called fans like you who are just the adversaries of this sport and have no idea what it takes for a man of Stoners stature and talent to achieve what he has done throughout his carrier in motogp! Stoner is a legend and unfortunately for all of us it will take a very long time for us to see another rider of his stature behold our eyes and compete in motogp! Thank Casey for all the enjoyment that you have given me all the excitement thrills (especially on the GP7 which you rode to the limit) thank you thank you YOU ARE A LEGEND and I’ve been a fan and have watched this sport since 1975, THANK YOU CASEY YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST AND THIS SPORT WILL NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU!!!
