Round 14: 2016 Gran Premio Movistar de Aragón: MotorLand Aragón

Marquez, all pace this weekend. Unstoppable today. That should just about wrap it up this year barring a catastrophic string of events.

The runoffs have only saved Marquez about a dozen times this year, 3 times in one race alone, but yeah... Rossi sucks. When Marquez runs off, he's smart enough to know the extra space is there. When Rossi runs off, the stupid .... is just lucky.

Decent race out of Lorenzo. Didn't give up.

Not sure what to make of the move. Was it Rossi's only chance of passing Jorge? He was pressing him fairly hard.

MM must have faked that front end lose, the way his bike was behaving couldn't possibly have changed over the course of the race and he obviously could and should have run mid 48s for the whole race

Marc was on a hard front wasnt he ....... he was doing pretty well to be running that pace that early .... hence ..... the lose ....

I was joking, harking back to the narrative about PI 2015 given Rossi has apparently put his narrative about late season 2015 forward again in an interview with Suzi Perry.

Rossi made a desperation move trying to cut his losses to 5 points instead of 9 points. I feel had he been able to get the bike stopped, he would have put the screws to Lorenzo to try and make the move stick and we would have been treated to another few weeks of this .....

MM definitely lost the front there...he was on the hard front, and I don't think the tire was in it's element just yet when that happened. Looked to me to be a carbon copy of what would happen last season when he started pushing too hard too early, only he caught it before it would have ended/ruined his race. He got into a groove after that and then just made his way back to the front.

Did mm give Lorenzo a little wave after that pass on the first lap? Those first few corners were good.

Great race, I was waiting for a last lap paint swapping contest with JL and VR until he overcooked it into that corner.

See my answer to Barry, that was my point, pretty much a similar course of events to when MM "cheated" at PI 2015.

My serious question was whether Rossi needed to make such a desperate move, he had another lap and a half and was pressing Jorge pretty hard, but I guess Jorge could have been foxing as well, he seems to be in maximally piss off Rossi mode now.

I think what we saw was Rossi pushing to his limit, there was a couple of times following Lorenzo he looked a bit out of shape. I think it was a now or never move hoping if he could get in front of Lorenzo despite slower pace he could outbrake him to take second.

I don't think it was a move to run off track by 30 feet. I'm pretty sure he just ...... up.

In either case, if he was 2nd or 3rd today, the net effect is a MM championship 2016.

Sure, as JPS said MM saving the front end lose was pivotal, an 18 point lead with 4 races to go would be an entirely different thing.

I am sure Rossi didn't deliberately run off, it just seemed like a low percentage move. Chris Vermeulen said the same thing on the Australian TV coverage after I posted.

Low percentage yes, but the fact that he is still going on about last year's title being stolen tells you he is reliving everything starting with Aragon last season. Pedrosa raced him hard for that 2nd position, and a year later, in a race he desperately needed to finish second in, Lorenzo this time is the one who raced him hard for second. Ironic eh?

I honestly think he has gone a bit loopy. In general terms it is enormously to his credit that he can run with riders of the calibre of MM and JL at age 37, and I genuinely didn't dislike him before the end of last season although I did of course have an issue with that element among his fandom.

Why did he think he needed the 10th title so much and why is he dwelling on his loss so much?, particularly with the claims it was stolen from him. Today's race demonstrated MM can have eventually dominant pace but nearly lose his bike early in a race necessitating him biding his time till he is more comfortable with the balance of the bike/in a better rhythm when in contention for a championship the same as last year when he was not in contention.

I fear MM may again have been riding to thwart Valentino today though. Does anyone think Vinales shouldn't have tried to win the race btw?

Because, whatever you think of him, he is a champion and he wants to be a champion again. Most champions whatever the sport are greedy and want more. Marc has already got two titles, why does he need another for that matter?

As for dwelling on his loss, again like many champions he will remember the ones that got away more than the ones he won. Plus he realises he is getting older and that the chances of a 10th get a little bit more unlikely each year. Time is not on Vale's side.
