Didn't see a thread for this one yet, and the event is already underway. We are slacking.
Marc getting into Q2 with a tow while the other Hondas are 17th, 20th and 22nd. Maybe it's just a good strategy after all and he isn't doing this to ruin anyone's race?
Martín seems uneasy and nervous. He seemed to be blaming the bike but maybe there's something else.
For years folks have raved about Stoner and/or Marquez' ability to "ride around problems or idiosyncrasies of a given bike". Assuming that the general shittiness of the current Honda making it hard to qualify well, that would seem to be what he's doing, lack of championship potential not withstanding. He's doing the necessary to give the best possible results for his employer, demonstrating that he's a team player. It'd be a ....-load easier, to inflict less damage to his body by cruising around safely at the back of the race.Marc getting into Q2 with a tow while the other Hondas are 17th, 20th and 22nd. And of course, it’s not just the sand and heat. A big reason this track produces such anomalous results is that 1. It’s literally the smoothest, least bumpy track of all the circuits and 2. More importantly, the Saudis, because of the extreme variances in temperature between night and day, are necessarily required to use a custom one-off surface composition that can withstand those temperature extremes without cracking and buckling, making it the most challenging track for tire manufacturers to design a tire composition that works well there. IIRC - Bridgestone seemed to have a much better understanding of what it took to create a tire that would produce good results under such varied and unpredictable conditions.Day 1 in the desert is normal to see odd riders at the top. It takes a while to get the sand off and lay some rubber. Times will drop a lot tomorrow.
Apparently he is. He looks completely lost in FP. Defo, not, sandbagging. Team really needs to pull a rabbit out of their hat set-up wise. The results speak for themselves at present.
Martin should be nervous. If Bagnaia and Martin are stuck in the midpack, he won't be able to make the points deficit without some help.....
Top 3 ducs are the 2022 bike. Aleix may have qualified top 10 but he won't be starting there after slapping Franco. He is such a little bitch. Stoner was fined 5k for doing similar to RDP.Unsurprisingly, six ducatis in the first six positions after qualifying. Surprisingly, the top 3 is not what you'd expect: Marini, DiGia and little Márquez. They're probably riding a lot less stressed than Pecco and Martín who occupy the next two spots sharing the same row, as if the championship couldn't get any spicier. Marc with another evil tow placing the Honda where it shouldn't be in 7th, instead of placating the yellow tifosi, how dare he not accompany the other three Hondas which find themselves in the last three spots?
The Aprilias looked promising in practice but in the end they have to conform themselves with 8th, 9th and 10th. Oliveira slumping badly in 17th. Bestia regressing back to his "normal" level for this 2023, with Quartararo behind no matter how hard he tries.
