Ben Spies MotoGp Failure ?

Really? how is it clearly less competitive?

QUOTE (Jumkie @ Oct 7 2009, 06:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Though I think your question is fair, I think you need to first follow the WSBK series a bit more deeply before you make such a shallow premise. Spies has consistently beaten Haga except when experiencing some equipment issue. Infact, I can only think of twice that Haga has won races (Imola & S. Africa--assuming you want to call those venues straight up).

Except from the part of the other rider actually winning races, what two riders names could we put in here a few years ago? pot kettle black?

It's ok Jumkie, I agree with most of what you say HERE, probably because neither of us are huge Haga or Spies fans

Not to convincingly, but he still world champ.

I think 990 Moto GP is closer to SBK bike and thus suited more to Hayden and Spies. On the hand, Max Biaggi should be given a chance to ride a 800cc bike MotoGp as he is a real 250cc rider. Max was never be able to ride 100% those 990cc bike SBK bike. The new Aprilia he rode this yearcurrently was almost close to 990 GP bike....

Have you been watching WSBK the last ten years? Ever seen
a championship won on a Yamaha? Look at the field of riders
this year and count the number of guys on Yamahas and ask yourself
how many are in top ten positions - top 15 even. WSBK except on the
rare occasion has been the Ducati Cup Races since forever.

What will yamaha do ?

Yamaha should have more bike in Moto GP. Going back to WSBK is much easy than entering MotoGP. Love to see Spies beating Collins in Valencia MotoGP (last round) and very anxious to watch JT riding the R1 in WSBK next year..

Motogp 2010 running order (in no particular order):

Group 1:
Rossi
Stoner
Lorenzo
Pedrosa

Group 2:
Melandri (Factory spec Honda)
Dovizioso
Edwards
Spies
Simoncelli
DePuniet (He's also getting the factory spec Honda for 2010)
Capirossi (He'll make some cameo's in this group a few times)

Group 3:
The rest

Spies will do fine imho. I'm surprised no one mentioned Melandri throughout this thread. If he gets the so called "factory" bike with proper support from Honda then he'll be part of Group 1. He's just as good as Pedrosa on a Honda and is one of only five riders in the 2010 field to have beaten Rossi head to head.

There are 2 guys on Yamaha's, one is currently second and the other 8th, not to bad. Maybe it doesn't handle as well as the factory duc, but Spies isn't bothered by that and It sure isn't the power, seeing as both Spies and Sykes where 1 and 2 in the top speed rankings in Magny Cours. Other than that Sykes is beating guys like Byrne and Kiyo who where BSB champs, whereas Sykes was more like BSB top 5's
Other than that Haga brought it to a consistant 2nd or 3rd the last 4 years and would've won in 2000 had it not been for the so called doping scandal.

The answer to my first question is still no.

So Sykes is in 8th place on a full factory bike. And the rest of the Yamaha riders?
Nowheres. Haga is an exceptional rider and still couldn't win a championship on
a Yamaha. Both Haga and Spies are exceptional riders who have ridden their .....
off to overcome the shortcomings of the Yamaha. That was my whole point

Leon Camier won 19 out of 25 races in BSB on a R1. I say there pretty ...... hot..

At the start of the season I said that the title was Haga's to lose, decent rider on the factory Duke, not rocket science is it? Spies has proven himself as a regular race winner, and when the bike finishes he's at the pointy end. WSBK has always full of riders who have done jack without the Duke. Foggy, Corser, Bayliss, Hodgeson for example, all riders who could win titles on the Duke but gone nowhere afterwards.

If Haga does win the title this year, he is going to know in himself, that when the Yam finished, Spies was the man. Fact. Personally, I hope Spies lifts the title, I think a WSBK title on a Yamaha or Honda has more Kudos than on a bike that the rule makers bend over backwards to see at the front. Remember Foggy running back to Ducati crying because Corser beat him when he was on the Honda? saying nobody could win on the RC45, then Lil John lifted the title on it the next year.

Whether Spies is going to hit GP like he has hit WSBK is still to be seen, but there is no mistaking the guy is good, very, very good.

We're not talking about British club racing.

We're talking about Yamahas running
configured to WSBK rules which have always been blatantly skewed in favor of the
Ducatis.

As you guys say, I was just
takin' the piss. England's a great place, very green and almost
half as big as Southern New Jersey. Come to think on it. I wonder
why Southern NJ isn't a nation. Oh yeah, now I remember; because
it's too freakin' small and insignificant. Seriously tho - just yanking
your chain. Some of my best friends are British.
