"If you aren't going to give 100%, don't bother turning up"

With all due respect I doubt you are an engineer, there are other ways of testing these things at the track and yes they have the equipment to do so at the track in the case of works teams. They dont just change everything 'just in case' if the bike takes a fall, that would be prohibitively expensive....

Everytime I read this heading I think, this must have been said about yamaha from Ben. Get ...... yamaha!

Whats the bet that bike has no chatter issues, swingarm failures or engine blow ups next season eh Mdub?
<

Damn I was going to piss on Jarvis but,

[font=Arial, sans-serif][background=rgb(245, 245, 245)]Ben Spies ‏@BenSpies11[/background][/font]

[font=Arial, sans-serif][background=rgb(245, 245, 245)]I have alot of people behind me including my boss Mr. Jarvis which has been behind me the whole time he wanted me Jorge and me to be Yamaha[/background][/font]

Maybe if Ben stopped crashing his bikes, those mechanical problems wouldn't be so evident.

With the current minuscule number of engines they are allowed for a season, a spectacular high-side like Spies had in practice would normally be followed by a change of bike/engine. Now they are jealously counting every engine, they cant afford to do that.

I suspect the heavy hit the bike got on Friday contributed to the blow up - just as the heavy fall he took in qualifying at Laguna contributed to his broken swingarm in the race.

It's easy for Pie eaters to point the finger at Yamaha and say it's all their fault, but his team-mate doesn't seem to be suffering from failures - but then again, his team-mate isn't binning the thing every time he goes out.

Just throwing this out there...

is Ben binning it because he is a bad rider or could it be in part caused by having to push for results on a bike fitted with test parts for shakedown and having to run setups that are not to his liking?

They use ultra sound to inspect the parts for hairline fractures. Guess they musta missed it this time.....

In my opinion an unhappy rider is a compromised rider. He clearly isn't having a great time of it at Yamaha. To be fair, as much a fan of Ben as I am, I think MotoGP was a leap too far. Sure hes won a race and put in some impressive performances, but when consistency was called for week in week out I just don't think he could quite reach that next level. He is a factory rider in what is arguably the best team, bike and teammate combo on the planet. I can't imagine what that kind of pressure must feel like.

I don't believe either... he isn't a bad rider, just not a 'together' one this year. He isn't riding a bike fitted with anything different to Lorenzo, except possibly the exhaust. And he would never have to run a setup not to his liking - that's why he has HIS crew.

I don't think you understand how factory teams and their riders work.

Yep - they do - along with computer-based analysis.

But I believe Spies was a suspension collapse, not a swingarm break, His spring snapped, didn't it?

What I find puzzling is his 'Oh well, this sucks' attitude. For someone that has fought so hard and ridden to such a high level it is indicative of a real problem inside the team.

Perhaps he is having personality issues - I am sure it isn't his ability and I am sure Yamaha aren't giving him second-rate parts. There is too much money involved to give him anything but the best.

Well then why dont you please educate me? Seeing as how you seem to know more about the goings-on inside a factory team than those on the inside that have reported the above scenario as being very likely. Kropo being one of them...who i think stands behind what he writes as being a very real possibility...he is not prone to propogating rumors.

In Spies own words: "[background=rgb(252, 252, 252)]This has definitely been the worst season so far. But it can only go on so long, and we have been putting together some decent results. And when we have been in position, we would have put in some decent results if we hadn't had failures and basically out of anybody's control. Out of the tires, we had a broken seat in the first round and then a swingarm that broke and then the visor problem that I had. It is a lot of problems that are no one's real fault, and it has been a lot of bad luck, and we have also showed good potential, too. I'm sorry if you thought I was pissing on your hero, but I believe, and still do, your understanding of the dynamics within a multi-million-dollar racing organisation such as Yamaha Racing are flawed. They spend around $10M on each riders' bike each season, plus the $50M or so for shipping them around, R&D, crews, etc. Deliberately giving the guy sub-standard equipment is just incomprehensible.

Never said he was my hero...nor did i say he was being given substandard equipment as past of some sort of conspiracy. I am well aware of what he has said about the situation...as far as the other reports you can dig them up yourself if you want to be fully informed. I was only adding another perspective to the conversation...one that had merit...not looking to get into a pissing contest with your sorry .... Some people...

No, that's not what you did at all.

You posted some ...., got questioned on it and posted a sarcastic response as a consequence.

I posted rebuttals to your claims, you responded with more ......

Carry on, you are batting 0:3.

Keep it up sport...you are looking like a real forum badass!

Both of my degrees and a number of diplomas would say otherwise, but carry on...
And just because you're an engineer doesn't mean you know anything about non destructive testing, mentioning an x-ray for aluminum shows you have no clue what you are talking about. Ultra sound is also not the preferred way of doing NDT on conductive materials, it's called eddy current testing, but ultra sound does have it's place. You're like the so called engineers on Krops site who think carbon fiber is also supposed to be tested with x-ray or that x ray is the only way to have a "look inside" of something.

I mentioned x-ray? No, I responded to another's post by saying they didn't use x-ray.

I also never mentioned anything about NDT, so your straw man arguments are piling up thick and fast.

What I did say was that ultrasound was the method used for testing at the track.

Perhaps you should turn your umbrage meter down a bit and work on basic English comprehension?
