Yamaha: Why Lorenzo won't test twice for Ducati

Its very strange that a bunch of people here forgot how much Rossi gave to that sport....
And no matter what you think MotoGP will lose if Rossi is out, on the other hand MotoGP will not lose much if Jorge is out of the equation.
I respect Lorenzo for his talent, but his personality is everything that you shouldn't be in sport today.

Yamaha choice was just, and Jorge will have a lot of time with his new machine, so only the future will tell us what will happen.
The bunch of people concerned despise the cult of personality in modern sport in general, and in MotoGP in particular, and were happily following the sport before Rossi turned it into a circus/WWE wrestling mainly focused on him.

What Yamaha's choice didn't result in was a world riders'
Championship, and it is unlikely to result in one for Rossi in the future either. As far as Jorge vs Rossi the heat is out of it for me, neither is winning another title imo. If Yamaha are going to finish 2nd then I agree Rossi doing so rather than Jorge will be better for them publicity-wise.

What will be interesting in terms of what the future tells us for me is whether Rossi taking his quest for the great white whale/10th championship into his 40s will hamper Yamaha developing/finding a rider who can actually challenge MM in the next few years, be it Vinales or someone not in the field yet.

If Rossi only loved racing when he wins, he would've quit a long time ago. The man truly has a passion for motorcycle racing. That said, why bother competing if you don't want to or think you can win? Only people content with being mediocre have that type of "just play for fun" mindset. The most accomplished athletes are all obsessed with winning. You think Michael Jordan cared about the people that called him an .......? Think Kobe cared about all the .... that was said about him? Valentino doesn't give a .... that you hate him! These athletes were/are motivated by their own desires not by the opinions of others... especially not the opinions of people that aren't even driven to attempt to be the best in the world at whatever they do in life.

Rossi didn't do anything to hurt the sport last year. If anything, he increased the amount of viewers and brought in even more fans. It's only a select few on this forum that already disliked him who exaggerate the events and the effects of Sepang 2015. Rossi lost his cool on track (for the first time and very likely the last time), fans of athletes of all sports are not usually turned off by that. If anything it makes the athlete even more human and fans relate to them even more.

There's different levels and types of mental weakness. Being able to compete through some injuries doesn't mean your skin is thick enough to deal with criticism. Stoner's weakness is that he cares too much what others think of him. That's probably why Stoner kept turning down Ducati's offers to ride this year, he fears what people will think if he does poorly.

Rossi has competed against the best his entire career and his record speaks for itself. Every win & loss he has accumulated was earned while competing with others that reached the very pinnacle of the sport.

If he wasn't GREAT, you wouldn't give a .... about him. You do not come here to type up posts full of negative emotions for Tito Rabat finishing last. You don't care enough about Tito to invest that much energy into him. A person has to be SUCCESSFUL to get the type of haters that come to this forum day in and day out to talk about Rossi. Haters also have to already live miserable lives because no one that's truly happy wants to constantly think or speak negatively about anything or anyone... that would be decreasing their level of happiness!

Interesting you bring up Jordan. Jordan was always confident enough in his ability to not feel the need to impair possible threats to his throne. Jordan remains one of the greatest competitors to ever live, while Rossi leaves a legacy of trying to and sometimes succeeding to hinder his closest competition.

Rossi absolutely hurt the sport last year. He did his best to discount Lorenzos hard earned title by saying he was cheated out of it. He hurt the future of the sport by demonising Marc Marquez, who up until that point the yellow horde had seen as his successor. He has hurt both Lorenzo, Marquezs and the MotoGPs credibility by continually repeating an insane conspiracy theory he has no evidence of. It wasn't the first time he lost his cool on the track, he has kicked another rider previously.

You might say he lost his cool on the track but he did much more than that. He did an illegal racing move on track never seen before on a MotoGP circuit. Yet you defend it, and say it makes him more relatable. Embarrassing logic for you and the yellow horde.

That's true but Rossi has never had to compete with the venom that his fans and the media pushed towards stoner. Given his track record when it comes to mental strength when faced with real adversity(Valencia 2006, post 2007 demands, 2010, 2011-2012, 2015.) he would probably fold in record time.

Rossi has competed against the best his entire career and his record speaks for itself. Every win & loss he has accumulated was earned while competing with others that reached the very pinnacle of the sport.

His record does speak for itself, when competing against other truly great riders(notice I said other, I agree he is great) he has a losing record against them. That isn't to say he hasn't had a great career just one not deserving of GOAT given the fact when on a level playing field his results suffered extensively.

Actually I have made lots of posts on here and elsewhere about Rabat so as is your pattern you're wrong again. No a person doesn't have to be successful to have haters just a deplorable two faced personality does fine.

Plenty of Jordan fans sat courtside and yelled obscenities at opposing players. Was Jordan using his fanbase to attack other players? Jordan also talked a lot of trash to other players to take away their confidence and mentally impair them. It's all part of the sport. Jordan used his influence in the sport to make sure Isiah Thomas was not part of the Olympic Dream Team.

There's nothing Rossi can say or do to discount Lorenzo's title. Lorenzo's name will forever be in the history book as 2015 champion.

It's your choice to believe in a phantom kick to Marquez because
the actual events of Sepang 2015 aren't very severe. You have to embellish and exaggerate to make it all seem like a crime against humanity.

What venom did Stoner have to deal with from Rossi fans? What was so bad that his feelings got hurt and made him want to give up and go home?

Casey Stoner is mentally weak. For every "fan" that disliked him, dozens of others admired him. He only focused on the negative and didn't truly enjoy the sport enough to want to continue. Stoner actually needed Rossi in order to showcase his own talent. You can't be considered one of the greats if you're not competing against the greats. If Stoner was competing for his own personal goals, he wouldn't have cared about how others perceived him, but apparently he was motivated by external things that he had no control over. Media and fans not treating him right? NOBODY can make EVERYONE like them. If Stoner didn't learn that lesson as a kid, tough ....! Hopefully he has learned it by now.

Red rag to bull.

NONE of these riders are mentally weak given the tasks that they manage, the injuries they sustain and the outcomes when they .... it up. All of these riders competing today (and this goes to a lot of sports/professions) have lost mates doing the very sport or activity and were they mentally weak, they would give up the sport because of that aspect.

Stoner was no more mentally weak then was Rossi for quitting Yamaha because he could not get #1 position (a dummy spit if you will), or no more mentally weak than was Rossi quitting Ducati because he and the team ran overtime on the 80 second jibe.

What Stoner was is disillusioned, frustrated and probably disappointed that no matter his achievements and/or those of his team, they were always playing second fiddle to others and were always on the end of ridicule because he and they did not fit the all smiling mould that so many seem to demand today (this also applies to Lorenzo and others).

I have said before and will say again. No person is mentally weak if they knock back a confirmed 20 million dollar, one year offer (of course, all the above is based on my opinion of mentally weak and were I brutally honest, I do not immediately believe many if any riders that have gone through the sport could be classed as mentally weak)

So trash talk now is the same as things Rossi has done such as mobilising his fans and the pro Rossi media, stomping his feet and threatening to quit if he doesn't get his way? That's not even on the same level you fool. Trash talk is, has and will always be a mainstay in competitive sport. You're comparing apples and oranges either way. Jordan not wanting someone on the dream team is not the same as using his influence to make sure his competition doesn't get equipment to be competitive.

Yes we are in agreement there. There is nothin Rossi can do or say to credit Lorenzo's title and brilliant chase down the stretch to rational fans. However the loudest sections of the biggest fanbase in the sport is not rational, DORNA sadly seems to be pandering to Rossi and these fans by allowing his theory airtime and directly or indirectly as a consequence of that legitimacy.

No, I'm not convinced he did kick Marquez, however he 100% did illegally and maliciously take another rider out of the race of the crime of racing him legally. There is indisputable evidence of him acting out on track before when he kicked another rider, and a long history of petulant behaviour. It's not embellished or exaggerated. It's simply an action that we haven't seen at top level racing and hopefully won't see again.

Constantly being vilified by fans and media. Being spat at and on by fans who embarrassingly for DORNA were never held accountable for their actions. They would've been banned for life if this took place in other sports. Constantly being demeaned for speaking his mind, mocked for his appearance and voice. Chastised for saying Rossi rode dangerously at Laguna 2008 when all evidence points to him doing just that. It's not until after he retired that he gained acceptance for his godlike ability on a bike. The irony about his comments to the media that he was sometimes ridiculed for is that many of them have proven to have had substance or been right. Rules have also been changed to align closely with changes he called for.

When comparing Rossi and Marquez in 10 years we will say I believe, that Rossi faced his toughest competition from the mid point of his career and fell short while Marquez faced the same during the start of his career and thrived.

Beautiful post, I almost shed a tear I tell ya. I almost went out to buy a yellow t shirt. Wait a minute, is that you Uccio? Moto Uccio!

A person has to be SUCCESSFUL to get hated eh? OK thanks for explaining your hate of Lorenzo. I'm glad you don't constantly speak negative about him, that would truly be miserable. Ah the irony, boppers are famous for being the most fair whether fans of all: boo, hiss, spit hate anyone that dares defeat the chosen one! Wheres Daniboy when we need another gotcha post? Afterall the hypocrisy on the this forum is unbelievable!

To tell you the truth, I don't remember anywhere near the amount of rider 'hate' in the sport during the 80's and 90's, though of course with no Rossi it was no-where near as 'popular'. Mean girls fan phenomenon appears to have started in the Rossi/Biaggi era.

Fans do as they please, they don't wait for instructions from their favorite athlete.

Jordan could use his status to influence how the refs called the games thus giving himself and his team an advantage.

Everyday people deal with far more stuff than Stoner had to go through. He's a great rider for sure, shame he didn't have the longevity.

I don't hate Lorenzo or any rider. I have criticized him about not appearing to always give maximum effort, but I praise him when he does well.

If he wasn't successful you wouldn't even notice. Your words Uccio.

How many times have you considered and posted comment on Pedrosa's poor 'effort' when he struggles to get tires up to temp and flounders around with the satellite bikes while Marquez is out front winning the race and the title? The one race he did actually win, he took a gamble on ultrasoft tires, pretty much the equivalent of Elias win when he got a one off chance on SNS.

Wait a minute, if Michelin supplied those ultra-softs Pedro likes every race, suddenly his effort might transform into that of a title contender!

There are 2 alien riders of the last decade. They won on bikes none of others possibly could of. One is Stoner, the other Marquez. Rossi is the same rider category as Lorenzo and even dare I say it Pedrosa. The humans.

Except where that athlete asks those fans to cease harrassing riders, or more to the point a certain rider

He has thrown toys from the pram a few times, but you said

If Stoner wasn't mentally weak, he never would've let the media and a select few rotten fans get under his skin.

Nowhere in the above (which was a response to my comments) do you say that Stoner quit for these reasons but you apportion his 'mental weakness' to these reasons, thus if CS is mentally weak due to allowing others to affect him, then likewise Rossi is mentally weak for allowing others to affect him is he not?

Or are rules different?

If you scroll up to my previous post you'll see that my reasoning for calling Stoner mentally weak is because he quit the sport due to being unable to handle negative fans & media.

Pedro never rode at the back of the grid just cruising. He always gives his maximum effort.

He gave maximum effort once only, when he finished 1st. He cruised around the rest of the time while his team-mate worked harder for a title. He is 3 places lower than last place cruiser Lorenzo in the championship! He deserves further scrutiny, but alas hes not successful, so who cares.

Rossi has assumed Pedros title, ever the bridesmaid, never the bride. I see Rossi is bringing up the old 80:20 rule again. He think when he wins its 80% rider, 20% bike. In 2002. RCV V5. Was 20%. My response?Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahaha.

Hes Biaggi style whinging its the bikes fault he came second. There are only two 80% riders who can make the difference. One is Stoner, the other is Marquez.

Pedrosa never cruised around once and I would not say that Marquez worked harder than him. If anything, given Pedrosa's physical disadvantages... he may very well work harder throughout a race than Marquez even if he isn't maintaining the same pace. Also, the bike is developed for Marquez so Pedrosa also has that working against him.

Couldn't agree more. Only aliens can make the difference. Stoner, Marquez.

Given Lorenzo's personality disadvantages? Hilarious.

You're certainly entitled to your only opinion that Stoner & Marquez meet the definition of "alien". It doesn't affect me. You're half trying to make a point and half trolling so it's difficult to take you seriously anyway.

To be fair Rossi was in this category earlier in his career but defiantly isn't anymore and has been outgunned by the younger better riders for a long time. His time on the Honda was similar to Marc on the Honda, able to beat everybody anywhere but was also on a better bike than the other guys. I think the Honda Rossi won on was a much better bike compared to its competition in the day when compared with Marc's Honda which doesn't have as big an advantage comparatively of the rest of the field.

But in his first couple of season with Yamaha, he was much like Stoner was in 2007 and able to win on a sub par bike. The Yamaha he won on wasn't the Yamaha we have today and I think many people forget that, the Honda he was riding the season earlier was a much better bike. I understand many people hate on him but he was a great rider in his day. Many of his one eyed fans still like to think he is of the same calibre compared to the competition now but the truth is that he simply isn't and struggles to win on a bike that is quite good and very much comparable to the Honda, but even in saying this to be able to ride at the pointy end of the field on any bike is no easy feat.

Problem for you is that not only has your boy crumbled the only two times he has been in a title race which went down to the wire, but that while he is undoubtedly a great rider he has also now revealed himself as rather a small man, living a cocooned existence at the age of rising 38 informed by sycophants like Uccio. I also seem to recall him being frankly scared by the Ducati bike which reduced him to cruising around in 5th or 6th, a bike on which as you guys quite frequently provoke me to remind you by running this line of argument Stoner won 23 races and a world title.

Stoner was what he was, a flawed individual as we all are to some degree (I like my heroes flawed personally), but managed to ride for 2 seasons as well as anyone has ever ridden (some bloke called Valentino said Stoner was riding like a god in 2007 as I recall) and was rather bullet proof for those 2 seasons), as well as many meritorious race wins in other years, whilst all the while it was thrilling to watch him ride a single practice lap given his riding style. He did these things whilst riding fairly and cleanly and with respect for his competitors when riding race laps, and apparently with no need to incite moronic fans to engage in any petty vendettas against his rivals. Good enough for me.

Rossi is still competing for the title. There is no problem for me nor him.

Problem for you is your boy is sitting on the sidelines scared to even temporarily get back in the game. He has revealed himself as a rather small man talking .... about what active riders are doing.
