Aragon *RACE* Thread

dovi should accept he aint a WC quality rider, and thus should not be in a top tier team....

How can you say that, he is in 5th place in the championship that's not bad going.......
<

If true, you won't hear any complaints from me, I rather liked this venue, awesome, just awesome! Aragon cork screw, hell yea!

I thought this was a great track, some great corners, lots of technical bits, and some close racing because of it. I hope we race here next season.

Juan Carlos is a pretty cool king as far as kings go. He is a motorcycle rider, and there are urban legends of him sneaking out on one of the royal bikes when he was younger and surprising people out in the hills north of Madrid. I'm sure he is the only monarch that follows motorcycle racing, he is not handing out trophies as a figure hear but as a true fan. A few years back when Dany and Jorge were in 250 I think, and there relationship was at it's most tense, ol' Juan Ca "forced" them to shake hands on the podium!

Yep I remember that one, they really didn't want to, but what do you say when the King of your country says you must!

I just got back from Churches Chicken ( do they hav these in the east?) Had a three piece with mash potato & corn on the cobb. Hope this counts.

Yea, we have a few of them around and yes your contribution will help. Jumkie has been keeping the faith for all of the Hayden fans, so if eating at Churches chicken is what it takes by gosh thats what Hayden fans need to do....weird though that it's not Kentucky Fried Chicken that brings good results?

One thing I was thinking over the last couple of laps as Pedrosa backed off and Stoner opened up the lead was "I hope we get to see one of Stoner's stand up wheelies". Man that boy can cross the line in style. I am glad the engine rule has not stopped this victory display like it has done with the burn outs.

MA...good observation, that was one of the best wheelies I've seen this year, never thought it might be due to the engine rule...I honestly thought they didn't do those wheelies coming to the finish because the power of the bike is turned down too much to conserve fuel.

I think Stoner either turns off the anti wheelie software, or doesn't use it much. Often on the last few laps you can see his front get pretty high so I was wondering if he deliberately turns it off early in case he needs it for a last minute effort.

Pedrosa seems to always have his on, as too Lorenzo, Pedrosa never even seems to try and wheelie.

I think it was JB who said they have the anti wheelie set for 50mm as that is what they have found is the most effective.

Race Queens, Paddock girls, whatever you want to call them. I didn´t get any pictures of them, but the shots on motogp.com are pretttty. Randy´s bunny has some amazing legs.

CK pointed out to me that Lorenzo rode with Tomizawa's helment at Aragon. Very cool.

Jum,

In another forum (I am a hethen I know that there should be no other forums) there was a series of pictures where all bikes shown had either a sticker or the number of Tomizawa's bike on them as a memory. Was quite classy actually.

Will see if I can find and crosspost

sounds like what the riders did in 2003 when Kato passed. His 74 was on riders bikes, helmets and leathers. I think Rossi still has the 74 on his helmet or leathers to this day.

Wow what a race. I really enjoyed the last few laps of that one.

Wish I could have seen a bit more of the spies dovi battle, I kept thinking Ben was going to end up on the ground because he was making up so much distance on the brakes and it's not like Dovi is bad in that department.

I didn't think Nicky would be able to get past Lorenzo after staying on his back wheel for the whole race. The commentators were talking about the speed advantage the Ducati had so i kept waiting for him to blow past Lorenzo on the straight but after seeing the top speed numbers Pigeon posted they clearly had it wrong. I loved Nicky's pass. I think he showed Lorenzo a wheel there a few laps before but he went by so fast on the last lap I thought he was going off the track.

Excellent observation. Ive rewatched the race several times now, i defy anybody to tell me a lap wher Nickys Duc gains on Lorenzos Yam on a straight. U wont find one. Infact the opposite is true, the Yama had superior acceleration, yes, the Yama pulled away initially on straights. Check it out again, ull see this is what happens. Lorenzo and others made sure to mention the Yams down on power, i call ........! I think they geared/ set up their bikes for this purpose. They wer strong on brakes as well. Nicky tried all race but had to resort to a bonsai high risk move to get past, not exactly a move that said the Yam is slow. It seems the Yama riders r not happy unless they hav ALL & every advantages. I like Lorenzo, but i was disappointed in his post race comment that chalked up Nickys podium to his "slow" bike. ........, he got beat by a move that was amazing and caught him off guard, similar to how he got beat by Rossi in Catalunya. Nicky never passed him on a straight. Infact he could never b close enuf to draft. So again i call ........ on this idea that Yamaha is handicapped by power or is slow. Rossi's bike was faster than Stoners Duc, fact! The only bike i saw that was really faster was Pedros, but thats becuz he weighs as much as a 12 year old girl. Dovi had a hard time passing Marco S. It took Dovi most of the race to finally get close enuf to Spies to put pressure. On the straights, he then had a hard time getting past Spies. His few times that he did pass Spies was more thanx to a draft, but ones in clean air could not hold an advantage to Spies' fierce braking This was the best battle, but the coverage director saw it fit to switch to Casey who was clear from Pedro then Pedro who was clear of 3rd, and this on the last lap just when the amazing battle was happening between Dovi & Spies. Stupid. Im glad that person had enuf sense to cut to Nicky & Lorenzo just in time or we would hav missed that. Can somebody send Dorna a memo and let them know the technology for split screens exists.

What got me about Nicky was he actually was catching Lorenzo in the corners, though it took a bit of "last few laps need adrenaline" to make him do something about it.
<
It was the Nicky of old, the guy looked like he meant it when he made his move.

Did Nicky's Duc. have the mod.s done like Stoners?

I think Nicky was maintaining Lorenzo's pace into and in the middle of the corners but as Jumkie mentioned gearing for the Yamaha seemed biased for getting off the corners so anything maintained or gained was lost immediately upon acceleration, Lorenzo knew he had to be perfect leading onto the long straights or he would get passed, and Nicky knew he would not be able to make it up at the end of the straight on brakes, so Nicky got resourceful and made a pass in an area Lorenzo would never see it coming, and I agree with Jumkie it pissed Lorenzo off and they immediately said championship mode blah blah, and other riders had nothing to loose blah blah blah....Lorenzo, you like so many others out there have forgotten that Hayden does indeed have race craft and patience, he had a decent bike under him at Aragon and showed what he can do with a decent race bike.

I think I read somewhere that Stoners setup went back to what Nicky's setup already was, but there was an additional tweek here and there that I don't believe Nicky was using just yet, someone else on here that is better informed can respond to that.

Take out Jerez. It's a dump and the least accessible of all for the rest of Europe. Aragon is nice because it is easy driving distance for people from Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Bilbao/northern Spain, and it is about 3 hours south of the french border instead of the 14+ hours that Jerez is. Attendance figures might make it a hard track to drop, but it is by far the most rundown, and really the only place where the party gets out of control. The locals down there have too many days out in the hot sun and burn up their brains.

Jerez is one of the most attended races, the best tracks and the best atmosphere's going. There is no way they should drop one of the top 5 GP's of the year.

Have you been to the place? I have, and can vouch It is a dump. There are always "x" number of motorcyclist that kill them selves because usually the locals are out of control. Policing there is next to none, and when they do intervene, such as for traffic control around the circuit they do a horrible job. I say this all as a Spaniard. If you want something done right, you don't get it done in southern Spain. It just won't work. The atmosphere is great if what you are looking for are drunk obnoxious testosterone oozing Andalucians. This is not just my feeling, but that of many of the randoms I talked to at the track in Alcaniz. Jerez is as far away from the rest of Spain and Europe as possible.

the yamaha does lack acceleration, and it always has. top speed is not as important as acceleration, i think. when nicky made that pass, in the straight, immediately he was getting away from jorge. 2007 comes in mind, everyone was talking about the gp7 +20km of top speed but what really made the difference -apart from the bridgestones- was acceleration, out of slow corners .. the m1 i remember performed better at high speed circuits (with high corner speed) like qatar, mugello, assen, catalunya

also, i believe dani's weight is not really an advantage. it was, for sure, in his 125 and 250 days, but the 4stroke engine has enough torque not to care that much for a 10kg heavier rider. it could even be a disadvantage, when it comes to braking, maybe.

and jerez is also a non-tilke/fast and flowing motorcycle track, and we usually have great racing there. this year too, maybe the best race, between the top two riders.
