<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mattsteg @ Apr 4 2009, 11:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>With how much emphasis Haga's been putting on getting the double in his statements leading up to the race, I wouldn't be shocked if he comes out and wins or bins. We might start to see more of the old, aggressive, often brilliant but sometimes mistake prone Haga if Spies keeps up his phenomenal run so far.

I think you are very correct. Haga can't win the season by taking 2nd place if Spies stays consistently at the front. It's very likely we will see more of the aggressive Haga tomorrow if Ben gets out in front of him. That said, is the Ducati capable of aggressive Haga style riding? It's not as nimble as the Yamaha was for him.

Gonna be hard for Nakano to "Go" with a broken collarbone....

Is the race gonna be on Justintv?

Here is the time in Madrid, couldn't find Valencia, but I'm assuming its all the same time zone.

SS - your boy fell and broke his left collar bone - won't see him until at least next round...

Which is why he's completely had to change his style to accomodate the 90° V twin. You gotta believe he can't set it up to turn on its nose anymore so he's using more mid corner speed and utilising the vast torque that the 1200 Duc churns ourt. When he got aggressive on the fours, he was spectacular...on the twin he doesn't seem to be able to ride it loose like Bayliss did, towards the end of the races at Qatar he ended up looking flustered trying in vain to close down Spies.

As I write this there's a Eurosport interview on with Spies, who says he doesn't mind the bike bucking, or the rear end sliding, but the Yam is a front end bike, and that is the bikes main strength, so he has to have it working. At Qatar he say's it was one of those are meetings where the set up was perfect all around from the off.

Valencia will favour the twin...so long as Haga finishes in front of his teammate I'll be happy.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Son of Doohan @ Apr 5 2009, 11:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>What happened to Spies?
Dicing with Neukerchner, lost the front at turn 1

So it seems that Valencia still favours Ducati. Taking nothing away from Haga though. Superb rhythm, and a very composed ride.

Shame Spies was held up at the start, and saw Haga doing a disappearing act. Those Suzuki's are frighteningly quick on the straight, and definitely have the edge on the r1. In many ways, the new Yam emulates the power delivery of a twin, which costs it in straight line speed against the 'conventional fours'. Spies desperately needs to get that holeshot in race 2.

Valencia is notoriously hard circuit to make a pass, and it looked like Ben was anxious to dispose of Max at turn 1, (which along with turn 2 is one of the few places you can get by), and just ran it in too hot. Spies seems to be very good at finding the limit, and knowing just how hard he can push. The wealth of testing data at Phillip Island and Qatar probably explains why the bike was so beautifuly set up for him. Perhaps the front end feel is slghtly vaguer than it has been. There were a lot of low sides in this race, (Corsers being another prime example), and also in the earlier Superstock race.

Good to see Neukirchner on the block after last years debacle.

Cracking 600 race. Really well thought out race by Crutchlow and a great win. Westy's tyres just seemed to have been done in the end, but a fantastic ride just the same. Good ride by Sofoeoglu as well on the new honda.
Is there ever a bad SS race?

Go Crutchlow - told you all.

Should start a new WSS thread here to celebrate Cal's maiden win - I'm so pleased for him..taking a step back from the Superbike route to get a great ride in WSS.

How spectacular was Westy? - reminding us of his dirt track heritage two wheel drifting everywhere. Brilliant race...both on the limit, lap record pace right to the end. Cal was content to shadow Westy, and make the break on the last lap riding wide defensive lines - shows he's developing a great race brain. Brilliant ride -

I don't know where to start with this ...... post...
1. Ben pushed too hard too early and lost his position... apparently he does not know "just how hard he can push"...
2. Yeah his "wealth of testing data at Phillip Island and Qatar" far outweighs the testing data of teams/riders who have done this for more than a rookie season...

3. Perhaps the sky is falling - WTF is this statement? - "Perhaps the front end feel is slghtly vaguer (more vague) than it has been."

Oh spicy one,we expect better than this...

Nori's gonna take the double. Ben still rocks...

Hopper gonna be top 8 told ya he'd be top 10 in one race this weekend!

Extrapolated comment... Hopper's AT LEAST as good as Biaggi on his first ride...
