"...The rookie, winner of the last three races, suffered some kind of technical problem with his factory-backed Yamaha in Superpole 2 and had to switch to his spare bike. Nevertheless, Spies shot from eighth to first with one and a half minutes of the third and final Superpole session remaining."

unbelievable

So as things stand - I don't get to watch the races, but at least I don't
feel like a dumb-... for not being able to find the damned link. I figured
it was just me.

Well he does have professional mechanics... They would have had the second bike prepped to match the first. More impressive is the focus of the rider - Ben is the bomb.

Max B and Hopper will be battling for a top ten spot!!

There isn't a lot to talk about in superbikes except Spies these days. All the other riders look mediocre and inconsistent in the usual superbike fasion. Haga is the only other rider so far who looks perticularly good, and i think a shout out is in order for Corser and the BMW team for making some progress.

Troy and BMW are actually waiting for some hard parts coming from the factory and have been somewhat stagnant since the season opener. Team speculates progress will ramp-up when new bits arrive.

Damn, good to hear that Ben Spies threw it down but I want to watch superpole. WTF is up with the SBK site? Also and more importantly, did they remove the video link?

i tried all afternoon to get WSBK site working its ......the live link just sat there and did .... all..
Cudos to Mr Spies again hope the live link will work sunday.or it will be a torrent.grrr

What happened to poor ol' Max B?
He's been going well this weekend and I was really looking forward to seeing if he could mix it up at the front. I assume he tried to make it through SP1 on a race tire.

Completely, and no matter what the numbers say, irrespective of the fact that on both paper and laptop alike the settings that you've dialed in are identical, your No.2 machine never feels the same as the No.1. I don't think that would've even occurred to him.

What impresses me so much from watching Spies over the last few years is the fact that nothing seems to bother him. Like Povol say's, when the competition steps up he just raises the bar accordingly. He's found himself on the world stage, and he's responded, which is why I believe that he could have gone straight to GP, on a Suzuki, and pushed for rostrum finishes as a rookie. He's not like some of these riders that can only peel off fast lap times to order, but are nowhere on raceday. When the flag drops, you always know he'll deliver.

The other thing of note is that the Ricardo Tormo circuit has always been kind to the twins in WSB. Ben himself was saying that if they can be competitive here, then they can deliver all season.

Finally, so far as I'm concerned the track's new to him. Yeah he rode a few laps last season on the RGV, but that was press day, the conditions were questionable, and the bike would've probably been running a more 'friendly' mapping as is generally the case for scribes and guest riders alike.

Good to see Francis 'Fatters' bikes both in the final session - Kagy's so damn brave.

Regarding Ten Kate, I still think that Rea will only get stronger as this year progresses, and he's another that you can bank on to be quick come race day. Checa did well to finish where he did - again on his spare bike. There are certain riders, no matter where they go that always seem to be plagued by chatter. I have no idea whether it's the way they set up their machine which makes them susceptible or exacerbates this. Whoever Colin rides for the problem seems to rear its head at some stage. Last year the Michelin's were undoubtably the underlying factor, and we'll ignore the wrong turn that Yamaha took in chassis development for '06 because Vale himself was crippled by it too. I can think of every ride that Colin's had being derailed afflicted by chatter at some stage of the season, bar the SP1 an SP2, (but IMO a big twin is less liable to suffer such set up woes as a four). I've lost count of the times we've seen the tornado retreat to pit during testing or a race weekend because the bikes unrideable due to chatter. So much so, when he was at Gresini Honda his garage was laughably referred to as the 'chatter box' - (in part a reference to his garrulous nature no doubt). Perhaps it is his 'front end' riding style..I dunno, but Checa is another rider who always seems to complain of similar problems, and Christ could you see it. The blade was visibly skittering into and out of every corner, it was unsettling to watch let alone ride. That Ten Kate squad is so sorted, so technically sussed that its unthinkable that such a set up malady should strike one of their machines....you'd hope that they manage to dial this out come the race tomorrow, but how much of their ability to do so is limited by the rider? Checa comes with a mountain of experience, and where not in the same league as Troy Corser, supposedly a raft of developmental credentials. I've never seen much evidence of this. Max is another bemoaning chronic chatter this weekend, and another rider that has seemingly suffered from bouts of it it all of his career., but then Max is renowned for his inability to ride around problems (and people come to think about it).

Just got back from the track a little while ago.... Beautiful Day!! Ran into Biaggi riding around on his scooter, which was unexpected... He is much shorter in Person! Met some Spanish dudes on the train there and hung with them all day. It was nice to hear they don't like Pedrosa either... Haha.

Spies bike quit on him during SP2 and he didn't come out for SP3 until the last 3 minutes. He did one Warm up lap and then put in his pole lap right after that then went back to the garage like it was nothing. I made it back to the paddock for the press conferece and he said they were a little worried about SP3 with the spare bike because they had a different setup on it....Maybe why he took so long to come out for SP3.

Oh and btw they don't sell alcohol at the track....

I'm ready for tomorrow but think I will have to leave before the end of race 2 if I want to make my flight...

Absolutely.

Just finished watching the superpole (downloaded via torrent). Wow, 3 in a row for Spies. He and his team come off as very confident and able to step up and do the business when the time comes. To pull off that fast lap in the final minutes to take pole on the back up bike is amazing.

Laconi, the man is having a great season so far, good to see him happy. Clearly that piece of crap they call Kawasaki was holding him back these past few years, or he just loves being on Ducati. .... I will go with Kawasaki being utter ......

Haga, you can tell he is not super pleased that Spies has been taking it to him at every race so far. From what he was saying though, Ducati are working on getting the tire to last race distance. Haga feels this is what he needs most to stay above Spies come race time. We shall see.

Biaggi, what a knob I suspect they were gambline in SP1 on a race tire so they could use the two quali's for the final sessions. They probably thought they were fast enough to do this, as clearly the other guys were doing the same. Unfortunately for Biaggi, when it came time to get the job done, he didn't step up. I'm sure he blamed it on the team

Hopkins, can still use the "new" excuse for now but come next race, he needs to make it into the top 8 in Superpole or people are going to start to wonder.

I predict Race1 and Race2 will both be Haga/Spies battles, no one else is going to keep up with these guys. Haga most like will pick up the holeshot with Spies behind him. Who will prevail? So far I have to call Spies for the double.

Crutchlow and Westy must be licking their chops.

Sofuoglu and Pitt look out of it this weekend.

They have apparently been due to get onto the 09 bike soon, perhaps that is the cause of their relatively tame practice pace.

We might start to see more of the old, aggressive, often brilliant but sometimes mistake prone Haga if Spies keeps up his phenomenal run so far.
