Earlier i was looking forward to your reply because i had decided to make the effort to have a real discussion with you. Unfortunately i am disappointed that you have given a reply that contains no information or justification to support your rather perculiar opinions. What am i supposed to do?

I would be willing to accept this post if i could consider it a one off or even something personel against me, but as far as i can see all the members on here are having a similar problem no matter how they approach you. I have to ask myself why you are on a discussion page when you display no intent to actually discuss anything at all. The only thing i can think of is that you are here mearly to say things that gain the biggest reaction possible, something i thought was not welcome here. I will be speaking to the mods later this evening.

Geeez give it a rest for once.

I'm a bit disappointed if I'm honest with JT, he says he wanted a factory ride, so he goes to the worst factory team in the championship, what about the rumour that he had been offered another year in WSBK and then a factory honda?

Phil

Well this is the best he can do!!...so why complain???...at least hes gettin a chance!!!...JT is a smart boy and he will do well...I like JT...at leastr hes modest not like some of the poms on this forum!!!

Great to see JT finally in motogp now we can see how good he is.

How will tech 3 be a factory team though?

there are:

2 fiat bikes (Rossi and ???probably Edwards)

1 fortuna? bike for Lorenzo

2 tech 3 (Toseland and ???maybe Guintoli)

this would mean all 5 yamahas on the grid would be factory bikes?

Not at all. Think Honda Pons a few years ago where Tamada ran Bridgestones and Biaggi ran Michelins but both with Camel sponsorship. I think we'll see two Fortuna Tech 3 bikes with Toseland and Lorenzo as team mates and a similar factory arrangement Gresini had with the Kato/Gibernau bike. Guintoli doesn't enter the equation, I think he's gone along with Tamada and Dunlop.

Yamaha have bet their future on Lorenzo and Toseland to replace Rossi and Edwards down the road. My prediction is that Edwards will be given only a one year contract extension purely because Rossi insists on having him as team mate. Depending on how next season goes, Toseland or Hayden will be Rossi's team mate in 2009 and they'll get another young gun (or possibly Hayden) to partner Lorenzo. Hayden you say? I bet you he doesn't bother renewing after next year, not after the way he's been treated by them.

So let's see: Honda have a seat open at Gresini and no one seems to want it. They most likely will have two more open (LCR and Konica) and no one in their right mind would bother with those rides, given that some very good riders (Nakano, Stoner and Tamada) couldn't do anything with those turds. So who's left for Honda to sign?

I honestly would've expected JT to go to gresini instead of tech 3. I always assumed he (and lorenzo, if reel_nauti is right with tech2 fortuna) wouldn't settle for a 'less' team then a full factory team like fiat or repsol

I think Toseland will quicke become an "also ran" on the MotoGP circuit. Who is the last Superbike Champ who swithced to MotoGP and won the championship? I'll tell you -- no one. Plus he is like 26 or 27 years old. He is getting a MotoGP shot solely to keep the British fans happy IMHO.

There was an "also ran" called Mick Doohan that managed to do it about five times or so. More recently there was another "also ran" called Nicky Hayden too.

I'm don't think Toseland can or will win a championship (frankly he may be a bit out of his league) but he'll do ok.

Well can't do worse the Roberts, and I think he'll be giving a few others a run for their money.

He did say in MCN last week that he would be taking the ride with the best overall package (i.e. Yamaha with more factory support and Michelin or Bridgestones). He will place in top 10 next year.

Hey guys. I think it's great to see a full time British rider in the main Moto GP class whatever the team James is on. If Moto GP is still going to be at Britain then they do need a British rider and at Donington it sales out almost every year so there are passionate British Moto GP fans out there. There are too many Italians, Spanish, Australian and American riders in Moto GP. I think it's great that finally they are taking notice of other nationalities apart from those countries I said. I say congrats James Toseland.

I don't know why everyone thinks the team is ...., they are capable of podiums with good riders...remember Melandri in 04.

From Eurosport:

The Briton signed a two-year contract with the factory-supported Tech 3 Yamaha team, and revealed he only found out about the offer two days ago, on returning from the Suzuka 8 Hours, before penning the deal on Wednesday morning.

"I agreed things on Monday when I got back from Suzuka but that was the first time when we had this decision to make," he explained to British Eurosport.

"Before that it was just speculation, but now it was on paper. I was over the moon. I had a conversation with my mum, we sat around and said it's what I've been waiting 10 years for and I just had to take the opportunity."

Toseland said it would be tough to leave behind the championship he has raced in at Supersport and Superbike level for nine seasons.

The 2004 world champion has a 43-point lead over Max Biaggi and is on course for his second title; making it very tempting to stay.

"It's been a great championship for but I am moving on and it's not easy. It's my family. Since I was 17 years old this has been my life," he said.

"I say hello to all the teams and mechanics and managers every morning and there is a very comfortable atmosphere there. I've gained a lot of respect with my results as well.

"The easy decision would have been to stay in Superbikes, sign another year, no problem. If I wanted to stay in Superbike I think I'd just sign a lifetime agreement to stay there and win as many championships as I can."

The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda man said the Japanese marque were not prepared to offer him a MotoGP ride, and so he was forced to sign for arch-rivals Yamaha.

"I haven't really sat down with everybody [at Honda] and discussed it yet, but it has been announced today so my phone is going to be red-hot when I switch it back on!" said Toseland.

"I was honest with everybody, with Honda and with my team. If I got an offer to fulfil my dream then I would take that opportunity.

"Unfortunately Honda's biggest proposal was for me to stay in World Superbike, which I could understand. Things are going well with me and Ten Kate, and they've got their plans for MotoGP.

"But it's the right time for me to make the switch especially with this opportunity."

Despite speculation that the move would also bring a switch from Pirelli to Michelin tyres, Toseland said he did not yet know what rubber the Tech 3 team would use in 2008.

"I'm not 100 percent sure. All I know is that it's going to be a competitive tyre, we'll just have to wait and see which but it won't be a problem.

"I don't know which I would prefer. From one weekend to the next things chance, it's a bit of a lottery at the moment in MotoGP who has the advantage. It doesn't really matter."

Whoa!! Time to back up on all my comments here. So it seems as though the great British hope wasn't such a hot property after all!!

How so?

I (and many others) had always assumed that Toseland was offered a Gresini (Hanspree link), Suzuki, D'Antin (he's was a Ducati man afterall) or Kawasaki ride. It seems that wasn't the case at all. Unless Poncheral and Yamaha gave him some serious assurances, I don't see why he jumped on the Tech 3 offer immediately. Suzuki and Kawasaki have a better chance these days than Tech 3 of a win or podium. Speculation, hearsay and rumour I guess. Perhaps Yamaha are really serious about upgrading Tech 3 if we were to take Toselands sudden signing on face value.

In a way it reinforces my theory that we'll have two Fortuna Tech 3 bikes next year. If I was Toseeland that would be my only reason to go with Tech 3 next year. Yep, Lorenzo and Toseland next year on Bridgestones!

Point taken.

But from what I understand, he was given offers from D'Antin, Gresini and Tech3, and he's chosen the Tech3 choice.

The man likes winning, and I don't see him as the guy to move for moneys sake.

Toseland will be at Tech3 team with good tyres (no dunlop).

Rossi and Lorenzo will be at FIAT Yamaha.

Colin will probably be at Tech3 too.

The Fortuna rumour seemed far fetched to me, let's not forget the relationship between Altadis (Fortuna owners) and Yamaha is REALLY BAD, Altadis sued Yamaha with the Barros issue a few years ago and I think they're still in court about it.

QUOTE(phleg @ Aug 1 2007, 02:15 PM)

Here here! It'll be nice to measure him VS West too, so we can stop arguing!
<

Here here X2!

JT is one of the nicest racers around, in any discipline, he has NEVER put his rivals down and doesn't moan about his machinery, as of this moment, I have more respect for him as a person than I do for Stoner.

And it's not because I'm a Brit, it's the fact he's a respectful person.

Again, if it's true, best of luck to him, hoping he can beat his team-mates atleast once next year.

Itll be interesting to see how Toseland measures up against West????????

Maybe when West wins something Toseland will notice who he is.

I'm not a fan, but wish Toseland all the best in GP.

Pete

Reel, neither of them, Doohan or Hayden, were WSBK champions. Doohan raced a few and wona couple. Nicky Hayden, did not even race WSBK (he was in AMA). On the other hand Collin Edwards ins a WSBK champion..
