Are you feeling well? Too much egg nog?

This topic is the realm of fantasy we are talking about here right? So my fantasy has them start at the back, work their way through the pack and both finish on the podium.

Bayliss want 1 million quid to race;

WORLD Superbike champion Troy Bayliss has put a price tag of Stg1 million ($A2.1 million) on a proposed match race against world MotoGP titleholder Valentino Rossi.

Rossi is reportedly keen on the challenge but Bayliss has been firm in his decision to walk away from motorcycle racing completely.

Bayliss retired at the end of this season after clinching his third Superbike world crown and is eyeing a possible switch to V8 Supercars.

But he has left a small window open to the Rossi suggestion and believes the Italian Yamaha star could easily be competitive on the different machine.

"I spoke with Valentino and he told me that he wants to race me really badly,'' Bayliss told motorcyclenews.com. "Yamaha have got a strong bike so it would be no problem at all for him to get up to speed.

"It wouldn't be so hard for him to be competitive on a Superbike. Valentino Rossi is Valentino Rosssi.

"(But) I'm feeling happy that the last time I rode I was world champion plus I won both races and beat all the other guys out there.

"For me to do it I'd need something like Stg1 million and that's not going to happen.''

Rossi, who this year regained his world MotoGP title from Australian Casey Stoner, has described Superbikes as the most entertaining form of motorcycle racing.

He has since reportedly been keen to arrange a head-to-head duel with the Australian.

The race was tipped to take place during the second round of the World Superbike series in Qatar on March 14. The MotoGP season does not start until April 12 in Qatar.

But Fiat Yamaha has played down reports of the one-off clash.

"Valentino has given a couple of interviews since (the final race in) Valencia where he has spoken of his passion for World Superbikes and how much he enjoys that series,'' a spokesperson said.

"There is no doubt it would be a very exciting and epic battle but there is no plan by Yamaha to let Valentino race in World Superbikes.''

I would go one step further.

Race 1: World SBK match up
Baylis on Ducati 1098R as per his 2008 spec.
Rossi on Yamaha R1 2008 spec.

Race 2: Moto GP match up
Baylis on Stoners Ducati GP8 as per 2008 spec
Rossi on Yamaha M1 as per his 2008 spec.

1 x 10 lap on SBK and then 1 x 10 lap on Moto GP.
Maybe throw the best from Honda, Suzuk, and Kawasaki in to the game also.
Euro 1,000,000 prize money for the winner (if Baylis and Rossi win one each, comes down to margin).

Baylis would surprise a few of you Rossi fan boys. I think he would be close to Rossi on the Moto GP, and I think he would beat Rossi on the SBK. Baylis only raced the Ducati GP6 990 against Rossi once, and won (Rossi crashed from 6th whilst Baylis was leading), but Baylis matched him for qualifying and race pace, and would have probably beaten him regardless.
Rossi qualified 1st and Baylis 2nd (gap 0.2 sec).
Baylis was faster in race pace on every lap and finished 1st in a season where the Yamaha, Ducati and Honda were very close on speed.
Hard to compare from one race I know, but there are some bloody good peddlers in SBK, and Baylis has flogged them.
No one iin SBK has matched him (on much more competative bikes than Moto GP), and Baylis is not afraid to hang it all out to pass.

Rossi might beat him, but, I think it would be bloody close and Baylis would surprise a few people, including Rossi.
If it comes down to one on one, on Superbikes, my money would be on Baylis.

Unfortunately, it'll never happen.
Baylis has retired and there is no way Yamaha will let Rossi do it, but it would be a cracker.

Well we are lucky Bayliss had three years in GP then aren't we, there is no need to compare from only one race

I dont see this happening, as much as i would love to see it happen. its just the motorcycle fans fantasy. Baylis did ride ducati in moto gp but thats when the ducati wasnt even comptetive. if it was really to happen i think baylis would beat rossi on the superbike on almost any track except misano on the gp bikes i think it would be close but id see rossi on top. i personally like baylis a lot more as a racer even though rossi is jesus to some of you. too bad we'll never find out. oh yeah sack wack thst video was awesome it shows american music at its finest!! old school!!!!

Your point?

Bayliss rode on the MotoGP equivalent of Kawasaki. Throw Rossi on that bike and then we can talk "compare". Otherwise what you're saying is just as speculative as what Nuts is proposing. But I doubt you realize this...

My point is that comparing two riders based on one result will be less representative than using the three seasons they both competed in. Obviously both comparisons have the same speculative limits such as bikes and teams.

Ah, the sweet sound of backpedaling.

Nah you don't get it, i'm telling you that the element of speculation is irrelavent because its constant.

Well... I guess you could say that it was second to the Honda's based on Checa's performance.

I will agree with you that the M1 was the 2nd best bike... 2nd best behind HOW MANY RC211Vs on the grid?

Edit: SIX

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Wander @ Dec 30 2008, 07:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Seven.

How many of them were actually better than Rossi's bike or ridden by championship contenders is debatable.
