So Pramac and Martin choose a soft front knowing that it's a blazing hot track. They probably did because they weren't starting out front. But they got too greedy. The championship rival was still behind them. So the start wasnt critical. They blew it with the tire call.
Old school that's true. New school is a little different. Supposedly, if they can't get the tire flexing enough to generate the heat, the compound will just tear away from the carcass. I don't know the technical specs of the various Michelin compounds, but Martin et al could have chosen the soft compound because they believed it would work better over race distance.
Of course, I don't know the motivations of teams and their decisions. My point is just that Martin could have had a sound technical reason for choosing the soft tire.
