Shanghai Race Results *SPOILER*

We had an awesome day at the circuit, we sat in the B stand at the end of the start finish straight, it was quite windy up ther though and suffered some windburn.

Saw Elias go off on the 1st lap taking poor old Alex Barros with him who played catchup for the remainder of the race, and took KRJ in the end.

Stoner rode a faultless race but you could see Rossi catching him in the curves, but the Duke was blasting him into the weeds down the straight.

Rossi you could see was getting impatient that's why you see him run wide allowing Hopper take 2nd for a while.

Well done Hopper he was there all of the race, so glad he got a podium.

The 800's for sure do not have the same grunt as the 990's but the nimbleness and speed is still evident.

Anyway we had a great boozy day, here are some shots I took, Man in the Gorilla suit had been out all night the night before, the locals were taking more shots of him than Rossi haha..

Will add some more in the gallery over time.

No worries thats what the forum is all about sharing are experiences of the races, my new album is up and running in the gallery section, I still have a few more to add.

Yah, mate didn't want the day to end. Pity most of the grandstands were empty though

Still the Government chuck bucket loads of dosh at the event to make it happen.

Shame I will miss Donny though..

I thought the Rossi outbraking move was ballsy and the only possible way to have gotten past.

The circuit was poor after a big long straight next couple corners then your on another long finish straight.

Stoner sucked at Jerez and i assume that will include most of the rest of the tracks on the calendar when we get back to Europe maybe Sepang will be his next victory
<

an4rew sounds like wisdom to me here… Rossi had several overtaking maneuvers at twisty bits and lost at the straight in all of them. So he needed to try to outbreak at the end of the straight in order to get a different approach tactic. If he had gotten it, maybe it would have meant overtaking on the straight and demoralize Stoners confidence on the Ducati. Let’s face it, Stoner flawless race, congratulations to him and to Rossi for trying as hard!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BEN @ May 6 2007, 03:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Pretty tame race I thought - I only like last lap show downs and there wasnt much chance of that really.

Stoner 10/10 - Ultra fast, smooth and flawless............didnt put a tyre wrong imo and looked like everything was under control and with stood the doctor's pressure for most of the race.

Rossi 9.5/10 - Looked on the limit for most of the race just keeping up with casey and making back the straightline speed. Would have been interesting if he hadnt cooked it into the hairpin, i.e. a last lap show down with Casey = although I think Casey would have won regardless.

Hopped 9/10 - Nice ride, nice to see him on the podium!

WTF awards:

Edwards.................went backwards way too fast, when does his contract expire anyway?

Elias.........way out of control.

KRJR..................the team is obviously really struggling, which is a shame considering how well they were doing at the back end of last season.

I like your comments Ben… except that KRJR “how well they were doing at the back end of last season”… Now they’re doing at the back end of this season!

I think we're taking these top speed times too seriously. Yes ducati has an edge but there's a lot more to things than that and don't the top speeds, at the point measured, vary somewhat depending on riding style and situation (in a race: see difference between hopkins and
<
) ?

Well at least Pedrosa (3th top speed) should have had an advantage over Hopkins (10th top speed)... like Shanghai’s has two long straights as I recall... a little example: Stonner or Ducatis!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DrDanMD @ May 7 2007, 12:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>is Eurosport like a free site? You can watch the races there?

as mentioned before Eurosport is a tv channel although they do have a website.

if you look hard enough, you can find the eurosport coverage on the intertubes usually pretty quickly after local race time.

i'm in the US so i have to watch it on Speed if i want to watch on tv, but the commentators suck so i watch the eurosport coverage. the commentators are so much better that i would, hands down, rather wait 2, 4, 8, even 24 hours to watch a race rather than listen to another channel.

the team of Toby Moody, Julian Ryder, and Randy Mamola are absolutely peerless in terms of their accumen, humor, and banter between them. there really is no match for them... they should be the official mo to g p dot com commentators.

anyways, if you've never watched a eurosport coverage of a motogp race, you have to. having those guys call the race takes the enjoyment and excitement to the next level.

well this race told me 1 thing quite clearly. this track ain't no turkey! it just dose'nt seem to foster good close racing like the istanbul track does. always a procession, even in the smaller classes. but anyway it's good to have a race in china. now the race...1. casey stoner... well this kid is coming along nicely. what really impressed me the most is that the kid did not crack under the massive pressure rossi put on him almost the entire race. most any other rider probably would have cracked but stoneman did not. thats twice now! 2nd... rossi just gives u your $ worth in every race. the guy just dose'nt give up.... ever... machine/tires allowing. 3rd hopper! finally gets the monkey off his back!
<
good for him! i've been pretty critical of hopper for his lack of, but so far this season he's looking impressive. lets hope he can keep it up! 4th pedrosa... well the best honda.
<
did he get the best he could? the way the honda is going right now i'm sure it was. i think honda has come close to laying an egg with the 800. they need to get this bike sorted & soon. 4 races no honda wins! melandri 5th... 2nd best honda
<
hmmm. cappers 6th. stoners makin him look.... well... mediocre. cv for 7th... better than hopper? i used to think maybe but not so sure. 8th ahh randy DePuniet i was hopin he'd kept that 6th but it was'nt to be. at least he stayed on. 9th hoffman. the token german that is wasting what is clearly a good ducati. 10th checa... 11th i see no reason wy valentino & me can't finish 1. 2. this season.... time to go colin. 12th hayden... he did get knocked off track & did a good job of staying on & getting some points but that's not going to help him retain his title for sure. i know it's early but would i be out of line saying that haydens title defense is over before it started?
<
13th another french guy. 14th alex barros. it's ashame he got tangled up with elias. he was running the leaders pace & could have been a factor. oh well maybe next time. 15th krjr... man what the ....!
<
nakano & tamada.... what a shame. the japanese use to have some quality riders in gp. i miss daijiro kato.

fantastic pics! lucky .......o!

fantastic race...Rossi rode the tyres off the Yam to keep up with Stone on the Duc..

Hopkins needs to call me and thank me for that 3rd place!...He was there cause i named my pup after him the day before Q..

Hopper rules!!

good job they were helmets cos with the size of stoners ears if they was flapping in the wind he definatly wouldnt be able to go as fast as his bike takes him,

good day to you all.
You think Casey is ugly ! have you had a look at Rossi or are you blinded by your love for him,
It's good to see that Rossi's little games dont work with Stoner like they did with Gibbers and Max.

Do you think his games would've worked on them if they had that kind of confidence coming onto a long straight knowing you can just walk by and nothing can be done to stop it?

Time to change to my favorite track.

eurosport's coverage is so far above and beyond Speed that if you compare the two, you would easily realize why ratings for MC racing are so low in the US.

Here's a breakdown of typical Eurosport motoGP coverage:

Before the Race:
-Ultimate Timing which shows you T1-4 and who is fastest where; sometimes supplemented with interviews.
-on-bike camera of the entire circuit
-the warmup lap
-note also that Mamola has usually done the pillion ride on the duc by the race and so he gives his insights into track conditions and such before the race and while talking thru ultimate timing
-more charts, graphs, and in-depth analysis than you can shake a stick at

During the Race:
-Mamola is running his arse off all across the paddock interviewing people like Suppo, Denning, Burgess, or any riders who may have pulled out of the race

After the Race:
-Mamola in parque ferme interviewing the riders and anybody else he can get.
-Podium ceromonies
-Official post-race interviews (sometimes cut for time)

For the entire 90 mins (as opposed to Speed's meager 60), you get commentary from Ryder, Moody, and Mamola whenever there is space and it's always funny and intelligent.

Here's an example: Portugal '06 - Ryder is talking about Elias backing it in everywhere and his comment was "You could line the circuit with cute puppies and Elias would still rider over them."

you really owe it to yourself to at least check it out once; it makes an already enjoyable event even more enjoyable.

yeah, you get nick harris and the other dude. nick harris is like chick hearn calling laker games at the end of his career. the guy's a mess. he gets the riders wrong, completely misses important passes, etc.

the eurosport races are on the intertubes. if you read my first post, i said that. i can't really divulge any more info for fear of breaking forum rules.
