here are transcripts of randy mamola's interviews with hopkins, stoner, and rossi in parque ferme
i just did these myself cuz they have interesting info and you can't really get them anywhere else. they're from randy mamola's post-race interviews in parque ferme for eurosport's coverage of the race. if you watched the race on eurosport, you've already heard these.
i included all the "uh"s, "um"s, and "you know"s instead of trying to clean up the grammar, etc. i'd rather put down exactly what they said and let you make up your own mind rather than me trying to edit their comments.
anways, these are in chronological order...
Hopkins :
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>mamola : ...cracked it didn't you john?
hopkins : laughs finally randy, huh? it's, uh, been a long time coming man and it's just a huge weight off my shoulders to get this podium. you know, uh, once we got it done, you know, it's... the confidence is extreme and we just want a train of 'em now.
mamola : what's going through your mind when you finally get into third place and you see what's going on between the front two, casey and valentino... what's going through your mind as you're starting to close that gap in sections of the racetrack?
hopkins : please let me hang on to 'em!! please let 'em tow me around!!! the pace they were running were unbelievable. i mean, it was... it was amazing... i was looking at the lap timer and i was amazed at the lap times we were running.
[some standard fluff about the team, the bike, his sunglasses]
+++++
Stoner :
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>mamola : three out of four, can you believe it?
stoner : no, i can't. laughs i mean, uh, you know, i've almost won as many 250 races as, uh, as in this class and i really have ducati and bridgestone to thank for this... you know, they've put a great bike and team together for me and, uh, you know, it's... i don't know, it's just a matter of playing the races out and you know the ducati's pulling perfectly, so...
mamola : [question about the mechanical failure during qualifying]
stoner : like i said, you know, i feel very comfortable with the ducati team... i've got a lot of faith in them and they've got a lot of faith in me. you know, when they make a mistake, you know, they... they admit what went wrong and, uh, you know i understand what goes on and, you know, people and machinery make mistakes so, um, we knew nothing was gonna go wrong today... they knew what the problem was and it was just a matter of putting it right and uh, you know, getting the bike ready for today.
mamola : [question about the break before the next gp]
stoner : i've got a few media commitments and umm, and yeah, basically a lot training before the next one
mamola : i'm sure you've got a lot more media commitments out of today
stoner : yeah laughs [mumbles something]... laughs i won't/might (?) get too much time by myself
mamola : that's another thing, you know, people wanna follow you in practice, people wanna follow you on the racetrack... you're one of the hot property out there and that's gonna be part of that thing
stoner : yeah, i mean, it's pretty hard work when, uh, you know, people are always trying to get a tow off you through the sessions and, uh, a few times i've been a bit frustrated, uh, you know, i got stuffed up a little bit and i just feel like, laughs you know, why are they following me, you know, i know we're quick and everything, but there's a lot of track out there
mamola : what about with valentino, what about this race today when valentino, you know, when he was coming up underneath you... make a mistake a couple of times in front of you, what did you think
stoner : nah, i mean valentino was really strong today and i knew that we were good on the brakes and, uh, that was the only reason valentino ran wide a couple of times... but again, our bike was quite fast compared, uh, compared to valentino's and we're able to, you know, pass him back on the straight, but also during the rest of the track, we were pretty strong
moody : randy, can i ask through you did casey deliberately wait for the straight to pass on
mamola : [repeats question to stoner]
stoner : yeah, i mean, there's no reason to push any further and harder and uh, you know, if we went in on the brakes, you know, we might have a bit of a problem, but, you know, we just, uh, use the strength of the bike
+++++
Rossi :
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>mamola : ...valentino, very very difficult race... very difficult on the brakes.
rossi : laughs yes, yes... i have, i have to try, you know? mamola laughs because if i stay behind, for sure i arrive just second. i don't want to give up, i want to try with casey, but i have to push too much on the braking and i make the mistake. but anyway, i'm happy because except the top speed, the bike is good. i was very fast in the, in the braking... very fast in the corner... for me, is fun. and i'm very worried about... i'm very upset about the tire in turkey, but anyway, the championship is long. we know this track is very difficult for us and we arrive second.. so the fight is open.
