grass tracking). Main difference was 1 fastest
lap - cap to the 2.00s. Tho loris had faster riders for motivation.
So Hayden would have probably gone quicker if had not gone off. Tho
it did look like he had a bad start to me.

Maybe i need to look closer at times than if 2.00 2.01 or 2.02
with
bikes being such close racing.

Hayden lost 5 sec to Capirossi on first lap, and 3 to Checa. the difference at the finish was 4.5 sec to checa and 9 sec to Capirex. I.e. he was allmost on pace with Checa.

Interesting way to analyse it. Numbers don't lie! Although it takes into account time lost it doesn't take into account race situations. I didn't really look at checa so can't really comment on him. Fancy working out the same as above from say lap 6 to end?

Pretty tame race I thought - I only like last lap show downs and there wasnt much chance of that really.

Stoner 10/10 - Ultra fast, smooth and flawless............didnt put a tyre wrong imo and looked like everything was under control and with stood the doctor's pressure for most of the race.

Rossi 9.5/10 - Looked on the limit for most of the race just keeping up with casey and making back the straightline speed. Would have been interesting if he hadnt cooked it into the hairpin, i.e. a last lap show down with Casey = although I think Casey would have won regardless.

Hopped 9/10 - Nice ride, nice to see him on the podium!

WTF awards:

Edwards.................went backwards way too fast, when does his contract expire anyway?

Elias.........way out of control.

KRJR..................the team is obviously really struggling, which is a shame considering how well they were doing at the back end of last season.

If you wanna know do it yourself, my guess is that the difference was more as Hayden got faster at the end of te race, at least comepared to most others.

Lets get one thing right first.Hayden IS .....,probalbly the best slip stream mugger on the circuit, but thats it,only fast when following. How many races did he win last year???? Great race today,Stoner rode flawlessly again, but to say Rossi made a huge mistake like that and was up against an exocet missile down the straights, makes me think Rossi is gonna destroy him on the twistier tracks.Total respect for Hopper, rode a great race and i hear today that the Suzuki guys back at the factory in Japan have a new motor coming after Le Mans which is gonna be something special, watch this space.

Theres no doubt stoner is about 5yrs behind rossi talent wise but it doesn't matter when you got 10km/h+

I thought the Rossi outbraking move was ballsy and the only possible way to have gotten past.

The circuit was poor after a big long straight next couple corners then your on another long finish straight.

Stoner sucked at Jerez and i assume that will include most of the rest of the tracks on the calendar when we get back to Europe maybe Sepang will be his next victory

I'm guessing a lot of riders would love to have stoners 'lucky streak'. Winning 1 race is hard enough in a career, but 3, no skill, all luck. So Capirossi has no luck or is pure garbage?

Speaking of garbage

"I don't have much positive stuff to say about today's race! I had hoped that I would be able to try for a podium but right from the start I didn't have any rear grip and it was all I could do to keep it upright throughout the race. I genuinely believe that our bike is the best on the grid and I've never felt happier with it, but unfortunately the package as a whole isn't working for me at the moment and we need to understand why. I had a slightly different tyre to Valentino but he really showed his class again today. I just want to forget about this race and look forward to Le Mans, where I've always gone well."

here are transcripts of randy mamola's interviews with hopkins, stoner, and rossi in parque ferme

i just did these myself cuz they have interesting info and you can't really get them anywhere else. they're from randy mamola's post-race interviews in parque ferme for eurosport's coverage of the race. if you watched the race on eurosport, you've already heard these.

i included all the "uh"s, "um"s, and "you know"s instead of trying to clean up the grammar, etc. i'd rather put down exactly what they said and let you make up your own mind rather than me trying to edit their comments.

anways, these are in chronological order...

Hopkins :

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>mamola : ...cracked it didn't you john?

hopkins : laughs finally randy, huh? it's, uh, been a long time coming man and it's just a huge weight off my shoulders to get this podium. you know, uh, once we got it done, you know, it's... the confidence is extreme and we just want a train of 'em now.

mamola : what's going through your mind when you finally get into third place and you see what's going on between the front two, casey and valentino... what's going through your mind as you're starting to close that gap in sections of the racetrack?

hopkins : please let me hang on to 'em!! please let 'em tow me around!!! the pace they were running were unbelievable. i mean, it was... it was amazing... i was looking at the lap timer and i was amazed at the lap times we were running.

[some standard fluff about the team, the bike, his sunglasses]

+++++

Stoner :

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>mamola : three out of four, can you believe it?

stoner : no, i can't. laughs i mean, uh, you know, i've almost won as many 250 races as, uh, as in this class and i really have ducati and bridgestone to thank for this... you know, they've put a great bike and team together for me and, uh, you know, it's... i don't know, it's just a matter of playing the races out and you know the ducati's pulling perfectly, so...

mamola : [question about the mechanical failure during qualifying]

stoner : like i said, you know, i feel very comfortable with the ducati team... i've got a lot of faith in them and they've got a lot of faith in me. you know, when they make a mistake, you know, they... they admit what went wrong and, uh, you know i understand what goes on and, you know, people and machinery make mistakes so, um, we knew nothing was gonna go wrong today... they knew what the problem was and it was just a matter of putting it right and uh, you know, getting the bike ready for today.

mamola : [question about the break before the next gp]

stoner : i've got a few media commitments and umm, and yeah, basically a lot training before the next one

mamola : i'm sure you've got a lot more media commitments out of today

stoner : yeah laughs [mumbles something]... laughs i won't/might (?) get too much time by myself

mamola : that's another thing, you know, people wanna follow you in practice, people wanna follow you on the racetrack... you're one of the hot property out there and that's gonna be part of that thing

stoner : yeah, i mean, it's pretty hard work when, uh, you know, people are always trying to get a tow off you through the sessions and, uh, a few times i've been a bit frustrated, uh, you know, i got stuffed up a little bit and i just feel like, laughs you know, why are they following me, you know, i know we're quick and everything, but there's a lot of track out there

mamola : what about with valentino, what about this race today when valentino, you know, when he was coming up underneath you... make a mistake a couple of times in front of you, what did you think

stoner : nah, i mean valentino was really strong today and i knew that we were good on the brakes and, uh, that was the only reason valentino ran wide a couple of times... but again, our bike was quite fast compared, uh, compared to valentino's and we're able to, you know, pass him back on the straight, but also during the rest of the track, we were pretty strong

moody : randy, can i ask through you did casey deliberately wait for the straight to pass on

mamola : [repeats question to stoner]

stoner : yeah, i mean, there's no reason to push any further and harder and uh, you know, if we went in on the brakes, you know, we might have a bit of a problem, but, you know, we just, uh, use the strength of the bike

+++++

Rossi :

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>mamola : ...valentino, very very difficult race... very difficult on the brakes.

rossi : laughs yes, yes... i have, i have to try, you know? mamola laughs because if i stay behind, for sure i arrive just second. i don't want to give up, i want to try with casey, but i have to push too much on the braking and i make the mistake. but anyway, i'm happy because except the top speed, the bike is good. i was very fast in the, in the braking... very fast in the corner... for me, is fun. and i'm very worried about... i'm very upset about the tire in turkey, but anyway, the championship is long. we know this track is very difficult for us and we arrive second.. so the fight is open.

thanks for the transcripts drumfu.

p.s.for more consistency, remove the "h"s from rossi's lines. hehehe

what's funny (or sad) is that rossi's english is arguably better than hopkins' or stoner's

Spot on. I don't think anyone is saying Stoner has more talent than Rossi. If the Ducati is a 'magic bike' why isn't Capirossi (who i have great respect for) doing what Stoner is doing? Sure Stoner has a top speed advantage over Rossi's Yamaha, but so do about 11 other blokes, and where are they?

Its a long season. Plenty to go, the only bloke who has beaten Valentino in recent years has been Valentino.

Good , ah, umm, transcripts drumfu, you know. Well done

I wanna hear about the sunglasses.

Don't get randy on eurosport here when live. Maybe they'll be on
the eurosport 2 replays tomorrow.

BabeLfish - i just thought you could do it quickly for the 3 riders
as i didn't plan to be on a pc anytime soon.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DrDanMD) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>is Eurosport like a free site? You can watch the races there?
Was that a joke?
Tv channel in europe. Maybe get it in usa with a mighty big dish and the right decoder?

This is obviously a lie. Perhaps you were introduced to motorcycle racing this weekend, but Hayden is definately not ...... I'd say he is not riding his best at the moment, but he isn't doing that bad considering the trouble the Honda riders all have and he is currently well amongst the best riders in the world
