Great pics Boots. Where did you sit this year?

We had seats where you guys had yours last year, the final corner right next to the paddock. It was great for getting down into the paddock, but not as good a view as last years grandstands (Erda). Good times!

I got a bunch more photos, so I will keep posting.

BTW, I found this article interesting regarding Haga:LINK

Nice to know Haga hasn't given up, not nice to know that he needs the money (maybe he was just making a joke). I'm surprised that it took this long to tell everyone that the rear tire is not working particularly well for him.

BTW, did everyone see him bouncing up and down on his bike as the strangled 1200cc desmoquattro gasped for the air it needed to hang with the Aprilia?

Great pics Boots. That one of Cal with mountains in background is awesome. Nice Duc shorts too.

Thanks man, it was a good time at the track. Just too bad for Checa and the races in general were lackluster. It's a nice circuit, but like you were saying, something about it prevents close racing in the Superbike class.

One thing i did notice was that other bikes were not blowing by the Ducati's like last year. The fastest trap speed in race 1 was Crutchlow at 311 kmh, Haga was at 303 KMH. The ducks were so strong out, the bikes with the top end advantage were not passing them in the long straight. Before Checa dropped Biaggi in race one, Biaggi was within 6-7 lengths heading into the last corner, lap after lap. I fully expected the Aprilia to blow by the Duc on the long straight but it never happened. The initial acceleration of the Duc was to much for the Aprlia to overcome. The 6.6 pounds may have made a difference, not that much in actual top speed, but how fast they get out of the corner.

BMW has to be close to figuring out there mid race fade problems. Both Corser and Xaus had good starts and both suffered from severe fade issues about the mid to 3/4 mark. Grip issues I imagine. If they get it sorted out their first win can't be too far off.

I agree with what you are saying Povol, in regards to Ducati vs Aprilia. They kept mentioning all weekend the 10+mph advantage that Biaggi had over Checa on the straight, however Biaggi was not making up time on him there. It's either as you say the Ducati is accelerating better coming into the straight or Checa was superior on the brakes. Whatever the case, at least at Miller the Aprilia did not appear to have a massive dominance. I still think it is the best all around package this year however.

back on topic..Biaggi got a great gift congrats to him
<

I dont think it was a gift....he was running with Checa most of race 1 and backed off for the last couple laps to bring in the 20 points and not push to hard to try for the win and blow it. Now if he was abut 10 seconds back and was never running with Checa all race, and riding as hard as possible to fend off the 3rd and 4th place guys to squeak out a win at the end, I would agree.

I would it woul dhave been more exciting if they duked it out to the end of each race, and I would not feel bad that Checa worked so hard to come up short this race weekend.

With Checa gaining no points this weekend and if Camier had kept his average finishes in the 4 races he has crashed, he would in a solid 3rd place....not bad showing for him against the Ssupernike vets...and prior MotoGP riders!!

Just depends on what you call a gift. When you concede victory to an opponent and you still somehow win, most would call that a gift, or luck..Think of it as a fight. One fighter is beating the .... out of the other. The defeated fighters corner man has his arm cocked to throw in the towel and the other fighter dies of a heart attack.. Thats sport though, especially racing.

I don't think he had conceded. We'll never know because the mechanical happened with a few laps to go. Had it happened on the last few turns of the race, then I'd say gift. But we've seen plenty of last lap charges in this sport specially when tires drop off and such.

Come on Jum, you did bump your head. Checa had close to a 4 second lead when the bike quit running. He could have chunked a tire and brought it home. Im not sure i have ever seen a 4 second last lap charge without something happening to the leaders bike.

I've got to agree. Checa was dominant all weekend. He was WAY ahead and would have pulled the double absent some kind of freak accident. To infer otherwise is a bit wishful at best. This was a gift pure and simple. Max did very well but he was not going to win.

Then I guess you've missed the last two MotoGP races.
<
No not last lap, but certainly the last few laps a lead can be erased in a hurry. It also happened at Laguna last year, Pedro loosened up and almost lost the lead, and that was in fact in the final lap.

But its not what you describe above, not even close. You say 4 second lead? Are you sure you're talking about this year's race? Checa had a little over a second in race one (1.6sec) and two second lead (2 sec) in race two. His bike took a dump after 17 laps in the first race, not the last lap, and 8th lap in the second race, not exactly near the end of the race, much less the "last lap 4 sec" scenario you paint above buddy.LINK (I think your might have bumped you head, hahaha)

We can't infer gifts with any degree of certainty. How many times did the leader of a race bin it last year in GP? Let me give you a list, they call them "aliens" to be cute, and each of them did it.

No, there was no gift. (maybe if we were talking last lap, last few turns, then maybe you have a point...maybe).

I hear you bro. And I would agree with you except that mistakes happen, and often what looks like a sure deal sometimes proves otherwise. Checa wasn't any more dominant then say Stoner at Qatar, right? And as you say "way ahead"; well his lead was a mere 1.6 sec for race one and 2 sec for race two, in the 8th when the mechanical occurred. I'm just saying I'm not comfortable with the idea of calling it a "gift" unless its like Spies running out of gas on the last lap near the finish line. Then I'd call that a "gift". These guys are human and mistakes happen. Checa has made a last lap last turn even mistake before, so nothing is for certain. But I know what you are saying. Maybe its just a matter of degree. We wouldn't say anything is gifted in say the first lap, right? How about the second or third? But then the last lap its a completely different matter, and I would say yeah, that's a "gift"; so I guess its a matter of degree with me.

Race 2 was not a gift...he went out after 7 laps. There is now way to know how he would have done with 14 laps left and Biaggi was right behind him again with a tiny bit more speed.

now Spies running empty last corner was a gift...but if that happened with one lap to go, I would say Fabio would not have "Ben" gifted since he was within striking distance and so much can change in a lap or 4.

But if crashes are a gift.....Haga has earned the Santa Claus Career Achievement Award!!!

Checa did throw down some great laps..... shame it did not go the distance and get a double. He would have had 3 wins to the Xerox teams 2 wins!!

Agree. And considering that Biaggi was only 1.6 behind in race one on the 17th, we don't know what could have happened in the last 3 laps. In fact, a second lead can be erased with a small mistake, running wide when tires are most prone to slippage. Plus, Biaggi is notorious for conserving tires, am I wrong?

Yeah, that totally sucked. Then Fabi celebrates like he just won the championship.

Well. I'm a bit bias since I'm not a Checa fan. But I love it when the satellite Ducs beat the factory. It shows that the bike is a great platform, and it makes the factory team squirm knowing they should be winning. The factory has fallen from grace in wsbk, and they need all the waking up they can get. Its not like the governing body isn't doing their part by spotting them a weight advantage, eh.
