MotoGP: 2016 Round 1 - Qatar (SPOILERS)

Sure, but he started bringing it home in the 2nd half of the season.

Once that happened, the title race began to change slowly.

Then Pedrosa got involved towards the final few races and that furthered altered the championship battle.

Final 5 races saw VR finish, 3, 2, 4, 3, 4

25% chance rule was in play.

That's the thing though. Iannone looked the next most likely last year, but hasn't finished his last 3 races. Vinales looks good, but I am not sure he is a Lorenzo/MM/Stoner level talent on current evidence, and that is what will be needed to compete with MM long term. I hesitate to say it, but I also do think Rossi makes a genuine contribution to the quality of the Yamaha bike, possibly one of the reasons he hates Lorenzo whom he may feel is undeservedly benefiting from this input.

As someone (I think VW) said, as long as Yamaha sign Lorenzo long term as well this is not a stupid move, although I share your doubts VR will be as competitive this year let alone in 2018. They are certainly not going to dump him simply because Lorenzo doesn't like him, particularly given their long term post retirement plans with him, and it would be hypocritical for Lorenzo to expect them to do so since they backed him in the reverse circumstance in 2010.

In terms of taking issue with him having a deleterious effect on the second Yamaha seat I would look more to his first stint there when Edwards was a test mule, and there seemed to be not much intention that he compete for race wins let alone the championship.

The tyres could be massive this year. What's going to happen if Valentino prefers the same tyres as Jorge?
Last year he benefitted at several tracks due to Bridgestone not taking the tyres with the edge grip that Jorge likes, such as Assen. If they are really on a level playing field ALL season, is Jorge going to dominate Valentino?
Did anyone see the Jorge film on Friday? It showed a clip at Assen of Marquez complaining about the tyres taken there and being asked why he thought Bridgestone had taken them. He replied "We all know why, but I dare not say". I'm assuming he was saying that Valentino prefers the harder tyres with less edge grip, so that's what we're getting even though we don't want them.
A long time to go yet, it was a tense race not knowing what the tyres would do and if anyone would fall. If Jorge starts to pull away with things, expect Valentino to really ramp up the mind games. He's already started them during practice!!!

Interesting. What movie is this?

Sounds like a tire conspiracy. But I'm told we don't have conspiracies in MotoGP. Odd.

The film was shown on bt sport on Friday at 10pm uk time. It's titled Jorge Lorenzo and is a documentary showing his battle to win the 2015 title. It's really good as there's loads of personal interviews and behind the scenes footage.
Jorge even mentions that Valentino used his settings several times on race day and says he never realised that Ramon Forcada was working for two riders. LOL
On the title on bt sports it says the film is one of the MotoGP Films. I highly recommend it, it's got none of the usual Valentino worshipping as you'd probably guess...

Giving VR tires only he preferred is one of those things that is not shocking in the least.

Different subject...given the disparity between Vinales and A.Esp, why is Alex even in GP?

Managed to catch the last hour or so of it yamfan.

It was a good behind the scenes view and I thought the wee bit just before the Sepang podium was very telling in body language and eye contact between everyone there.
Also puts to bed the notion that George hadn't seen what happened so shouldn't have commented.

Development Mule.

He has experience of Ducati, Aprilia ART and Yamaha (Forward). If The only thing I think that saves his 2017 Suzuki seat is Pedrosa leaving Honda.

I think A.Esp is on testing duty. So I wouldn't compare their performance straight up.

The two that are doing ...... are Rabat and Miller. They're not on an RCV-RS, are they? The only explanation for their poor performance seems to be they don't have tech support. Which frankly are reasonable reasons.
