MotoGP 2011: QATAR

Your starting to sound like some apologetic ....., i like you better as an .......
<

No need for that Povol, I as a relative newcomer is starting to like Jum after all.................

Its your opinion and that's what counts.....its a free world//

I as as a rossi supporter hope he gets its together that's all I care about...

Rossi and co are working on the solution now and going into fine detail........Have you ever saw a grumpy rossi?

Did you scan the crowd?

Julian Ryder said the crowds all red now and its taking him a while to get used to it...

Rossi's not the peoples champion for nothing...

If you said he would do a 1.55.6 yesterday? Would you have believed him?

I would have said 1.55.6 will leave you a half a second slower than Stoner last year on the same bike. It is clearly obvious that Stoner has skills not possessed by anyone on the grid, when it comes to riding anything very very fast. When it comes to bike control, he has no equal. The Honda has gotten better, Yamaha has gotten better, Ducati has gone backwards

Im guessing that is tongue in cheek, but if its not.

Unless a gearbox can change the geometry of a chassis, they are pissing money down the drain. They have a lot more problems than a quick change gearbox.

they need a new motor and new chassis not just a gearbox lol.

does ducati actually listen to riders input or do they just go there own way? im quessing there own way as the bike just seems to get worse every year

The chronic understeer of the GP11 is exacerbated by Valentino's shoulder. Vale and the crew need a few races under their belt to gauge how to tailor the bikes responses to best limit this handicap, and to ape some of the characteristics of the nimble M1 which was exploited to such effect. Valentino and his crew are masters of engineering and setting a bike up around the strengths of the rider. They will be up to speed once they obtain the race data that they so urgently require. Jerez, traditionally an 'also ran' circuit for the Desmo will be a major headache though.

I don't think Rossi's fitness is causal. His struggles are congruent with the past. History is repeating itself.

2007 - Capirossi can't feel the front. He gets fired.

2008 - Melandri can't feel the front. He gets sent in for psych evaluations then he is fired.

2009 - Hayden can't feel the front. Ducati let Nicky develop his own bike, but Nicky's Ducati has not rear grip. He scores a random podium at his home round. Everyone rejoices, but consistent speed is elusive. Hayden abandons his chassis and adapts to the standard bike.

2010 - Ducati make very minor changes to the front according to Hayden's testing work. Stoner says it feels much better, but he loses the front. The front end tweak helps Hayden adapt to the standard bike. He says he's finally learned to ride the standard bike, but he muddies the waters when he asserts that his settings have remedied Casey's crashing problems. Punters confuse settings with chassis specification. Rumors in the fanbase credit Hayden with "fixing" the Ducati. In reality, Nicky has adapted to ride the standard bike.

2011 - Vale can't feel the front. Ducati obey the commands of The Pontiff. Nicky is optimistic b/c he assumes the bike will receive minor tweaks to find the missing quarter second. The bike is re-engineered to mimic the flex characteristics of overcooked spaghetti. In practice, the factory Ducatis makes lots of traction control noises and go slowly. Hayden clams up about the new bike development b/c he's already been down this ill-fated development path in 2008. The customer Ducatis ("standard" Ducatis according to customer bike paradigms) go faster than the factory bikes in a majority of the sessions. Surely, the factory will take notice! Ducati publicly announce that the new flexi-chassis is infallible and has been ordained by The Pontiff. Nicky pulls his hat over his eyes, and clicks his red Dianeses together while whispering "there's no place like Honda".

"Vale and me like the same stuff". Nicky's thinking minor tweaks and practical changes b/c that's what he ultimately needed to ride the Duc. But Nick has interpretted his own prophecy incorrectly. Vale is building another 2009 Hayden-spec Ducati. The irony is insufferable!!!

Given that its the bike Stoner took to several wins late last season, with the exception that Rossi uses bucketloads of electronics, it would indicate that the fault lies with Rossi ......... well either hm or Melandri

Why they let Rossi add anti wheelie and more TC is beyond me.
<

Guareschi does not look a happy man.

Hayden to Suzuki I say.

Good ride by Barbera.

I was watching the front end of Casey's bike like a hawk .......... its a very different bike than the red ice sled.

Only saw him hang the back out to save the front once and that was during his greatest Qatar lap of all time.

firstly you know NOTHING about bikes...

and 2nd... cornering plus coming out of the corner is how you make up the time hence the honda's advantage....quicker acceleration without loosing torque

a bike is less aerodynamic when front wheel is off the ground, the yam had same problem if you remember.

stick to making matchstick houses cos you dont know .... about technology, if you did you would understand why anti wheelie is important.

It's all part of the story as to what is wrong with the Ducati. The handling is one but they also need to improve the gearbox. I'm surprised everyone has only just cottoned onto that after Honda improved theirs this year. If you look at the data on Motomatters about it. The Honda was estimated to change in 8 milliseconds, the Yamaha in 27 milliseconds and the Ducati in 46 or something milliseconds. Ducati therefore stands to gain the most from improving their gearbox.

Obviously Ducati also stands to improve the most by improving the handling of their bike as well.

Money they spend on the gearbox should really be transferrable to the 1000cc bike as well so I think it is a very worthwhile project.

The shoulder is back in play. Rossi saying the shoulder cost him 7/10ths and a second row start. Its amazing how much more the shoulder cost him per lap, the further the competition pulls away. Wasnt it just a few weeks ago that Rossi proclaimed the shoulder was doing fine and getting better everyday

I’m happy because I was able to ride again today. I did another 42 laps, which is reassuring. Even when I work my shoulder hard, I’m finding that it doesn’t get worse, and I don’t suffer too much, to the extent that I was able to start again this morning without having lost anything compared to yesterday," said Rossi.

"Actually, the shoulder is even getting better as I ride, and I’m able to make the movements that are required.

That was when he thought he was in striking distance

Now, the shoulder is all of a sudden a huge problem in a 1 hour q session where he only turned 15 laps at speed. Which Rossi do we believe.

Let's all acknowledge that shoulder issue is ........ and not an excuse, and not talk bout it anymore

Qualifying was awesome....well worth the trip.....most of the audience were Rossi fans....

Love every second of it....

Pics coming...soon...

Where do some of you come up with this stuff?

Road racing world march 2011 Nicky Hayden interview.

" as far as the chassis goes, Valentino thinks we need to go softer and that is the direction I've wanted to go since I got on it; it's always felt too stif to me."

As far as "there is no place like Honda" from same interview.

"yeah , the year I won the title was Dani's first year in the HRC team and I never been shat on more than I was that year"

Maybe his shoulder hurts.

And maybe it doesnt, and is using it as an excuse to save the reputation of himself and Ducati. It will be interesting to see who ultimately falls on the sword.Maybe after this year, Rossi will claim that the shoulder is forcing him to retire, saving face for him and Ducati.
<

Just watched the Qual session. VR drove into the pit, sat down, and made a fairly enthusiastic gesture and wave toward the camera with both arms. If his shoulder was sore, his body language sure didn't show it. Agree it's B.S., and wonder if he's actually starting to believe his own line a little.

If he will quit using it as an excuse, i will quit calling ........ on such excuses.

If you look at his race trim pace, it is better than his qualifying pace which suggests he didn't get what he should have out of the softer tyres. Having said that, although I believe he is hindered to a degree by his shoulder, I'm not a fan of getting a running spiel of how many tenths he loses at various sessions - unless it is of course accurate. In light of the amount of sceptism people hold towards such things, nothing is really to be gained by putting it out there.

I think Barbara being ahead of Rossi will change during the race but I do expect Rossi to fade.
