Better late than never.

With the amount of videos published online, you really cannot hide.

What I find interesting is that Marc says that he forgot that he was on a streetbike.

So he's either in a state of flow when on the track, or found a good excuse for his move.

At least he admits to making a mistake.
Better late than never.

My cynical side needs to ask; Did someone get to him? Do these riders have publicists that tell them when things aren't playing well and perhaps a statement of contrition would be a good idea? In the immediate aftermath of the race, Marc didn't seem to think any mistake was made.

That's what I was thinking too. It could be with the benefit of hindsight he is a little more level headed or he was told to apologise. The fact he gave Bulega a signed helmet immediately afterwards makes me think he at least felt bad immediately after.

Morbidelli gets yet another seat that he doesn't deserve. And it looks like he's back on his usual form out of Q2. Almost as bad as Perez in F1

Call me cynical, but I'm not sold on the idea that a multiple world champion, a so called generationally talent, forgets what bike he is riding.
"Of course it was not fun! I tried something there that I'm used to doing with the MotoGP bike but in the moment I didn't understand that I was riding a street bike," said Marquez.

"Even if it's a really good bike, the reaction of the bike I didn't expect and couldn't stop well. It was a mistake. I cannot say anything more."

I didn't read it that way. He attempted a move that he was capable of executing on the motoGP bike. It was not capable on that bike.

It was pointed out elsewhere he hasn't ridden that bike many times at all.
Given that, yes a bit foolish and ambitious it seems to me as a never was. I have no ability to ride anywhere near that level though.

From what video there was it didn't appear that M Marquez had hit Beluga but with this public apology contact must of been made. It shows how us armchair experts can get it wrong.

In regards to the difference in the bikes, the road bike has steel disks and probably weights more

Just how many corners did he execute on just that bike before he "forgot" he was on a street not GP one?

He is a cannibal. If Merckx didn't already have that nickname, it should have been given to MM.

He needs to be ahead. In any competition. Didn't his brother say that in an interview? Whatever game they play, he plays to win.

Agreed he plays to win, but again, as he says he attempted a pass like he would do on his motoGP bike and wasn't able to pull it off.
How many times prior did he attempt to stuff that bike up the inside like he has done so many times in his racing career. That is certainly one way to find out what it can and cannot do.

Some more thoughts here;
As you say, and I agree, he plays to win. Stick him on a motorbike in a race and he will race.

Most things done at true expert level are essentially unconscious. Especially something as fast-paced as motorcycle racing. Luca Marini was talking about adapting to the Honda, and how he previously automatically rode the Honda like it was the Ducati he was used to, and he's only now internalising how he needs to ride the Honda. I'm not quite as cynical as @Sennas_Caress on this point, and excuses are common, but I can see MM93 riding automatically like a MotoGP bike when the red mist comes down when it's the end of the race and he's off the podium.

Watching the push bike race in the Olympics 275k is a long way, 237k to go. No radio's!

There's a Moto3 race in a few minutes with an Australian on the front row :) Not that qualifying positions in Moto3 are all that important after the first big slipstreaming on the first lap.

Kelso had a fine showing. Gotta be the lads best race of his career.

I've just seen Moto2 now. Another pressure cooker race. Absolutely great race by Dixon. It looked like Canet had his measure - but no.

I was hoping that Ogura would have a good result here. Not sure what happened, but it looks like Garcia was able to get useful points on a day/track where the Boscoscuro didn't seem to work properly. That's what champions do.

Whoops! Wrong thread. I can't edit it now, so I think I will just have to leave it here and try to do better in posting in the right thread next time.

Returning to summer chat - I enjoyed going back through the past series and learning more about the past. And, I plan to do more of that when time allows. I certainly wasn't thinking that I didn't have anything to watch during the summer break. I'm looking forward to more down time - e.g. after the season ends, to watch even more.
