1 little miscaculation & someone will be in the .... on this!

Yeah this is starting to happen a bit more often then I would feel comfortable with if it was me as the team manager!

But I guess that all that horsepower has to have some sort of real world penalty... I mean apart from the objections that "he only wins 'cause he's on a faster bike".

The bike knows how much fuel is left.
and during the race this will help the rider.... how?

By altering the fuel mapping in a way that allows maximum performance without running out of fuel. Its quite handy really.

Clever little buggars aren't they???

Just one more piece of clever electronics in the mix... We refer to such items as F.R.E.D. or ......' Ridiculous Electronic Device!

Not that I've ever heard of one failing though come to think of it!!!

wait a minuet. the rider can change his fuel mapping during the race with the flick of a switch? indeed handy. if he can actually do that.

No. The ecu does it automatically

Yeah the Duc is pretty technically advanced. The rumors suggest revving efficiency of the desmo engine they've built is compounded by the electronics. When the Duc hits the straight the ecu gives it max power until sixth gear, a gear designed for cruising the straights and saving gas.

Unlike the other bikes that use max revs to attain the 300kph they need the Duc is cruising significantly below its max power output.

Max speeds at Misano are only 250, so no top gear cruising. Consequently, Stoner and Capi ran out of fuel. It seems there are no inconguencies between the rumors and simple logic.

Still, I find it hard to feel sorry for Pedrosa.

Boring race, I think this is the first time ever I switch the TV off halfway through the race.

Michelin must be relieved, instead of getting humiliated again on track, their top riders were soon out of the race, before their tires could die and start going backwards.

So congrats to Stoner for another inch-perfect race. To Vermeulen for at least trying to win. To Checa for managing 6th on .... bike with .... tyres.

And congrats too for Melandri and Elías for getting respectable results (4th & 7th) when they should be on a hospital bed.

I'm sorry for Dani, Nicky and Rossi, but I think they would have been morefrustrated if they hadn't had those problems and had to endure getting overtaken by all the Bstone lot.

Woke up. Saw the results. Looked at the lap chart and saw mainly straight lines. Saw the Pedrosa/DePuniet incident that took Hayden out of contention.

Back to bed. What a charade.

Frenchman should not be allowed on the grid. Every single one of them has been responsible for t-boning the living .... out of someone this season. What a joke. It's about time they levee a humiliating fine on DePuniet. Hitting Vermuelen was his free racing incident pass. This one should be the wallet stinger.

Commiserations for hayden's bad luck(again). I too was looking forward to a bold showing from him today. The racing gods really seem to have turned on him this year.

DePuniet is to crashing what Ron Haslam was to useless hole-shots that never went anywhere.

Given that Stones was something of a crashophile in the not too distant past, maybe it's too early to pass judgement, but really, as of this year, the Frog Prince seems like a bad joke repeated one time too many.
..... Two Suzukis on a GP podium? Amazing! A little scary even, considering how they've dominated Superbike pretty much everywhere. Cheers to them.

Yeah I remember in the early races, Dani got a message from pitboard to switch the mapping cause otherwise he would run out of fuel. The Magneti Marelli electronics of the Ducati does that automatically adjusting the mapping to make the bike use as much fuel as possible.

Errr, this wasn't just a tyre issue here tonight... let's see, what happened to the four leading Michelin men...

Rossi - yamaha engine died
Edwards - did his oft of late trick by rapidly moving backwards
Pedrosa - taken out by Mr RDP
Hayden - out of contention due to avoiding above incident

Not saying that any of them would have made much difference to the ultimate result but it's getting very "tyring" hearing about it in a negative way every time Bridgestone fills the top positions this year.

It wasn't even newsworthy last year whenever Michelin did the exact same thing...

they where going backwards anyway, first off Bridgestones warmed up way better... so Stoner was 1sec+ ahead by the time Rossi retired on lap 4!

AGHHHH!!! What the heck!!

i thought rossi would shine this race forsure, so i changed my second rider from Hopkins to Rossi

look where it got me!! kudos to bridgestone, they are really making michalin look stupid this year and kept me out of the top 10 in fantasy pool

Riders can change ignition settings themselves too frosty, been around for ages. Usually for coping with a worn out tyre or changeable weather. All new gixer 1000's have it.
I also remember reading that it was impossible for the desmosedici to run out of fuel because the electronics. Amazing stuff.

I had mentioned in an earlier post that Yamaha was likely to go with a "Desmo" style valve sometime - but I was thinking, like next season. Turns out they they were using a pneumatic valve update on Rossi's Misano ride. Hell of a time to try out a new design

they wouldn't be able to make a desmo style valve anytime soon, its old anyway and Pneumatic valves are the way forward. The Reason Ducati are so good with it is they have years and years of experience and get the most out of it.

He and Ducati deserve to have a record setting season. They are the only ones who show up with a world class machine and a world class rider in top form. nailed it!

Might as well get testing for 2008 right away there keshav!

Possibly the most boring race ive ever seen, sorry !
I watched to the point when stoner started gapping Ver, I then went for a shower, and cryed like Jim Carey in Pet Detective !
They need to change something to make it closer thoughout the race,
MotoGP is in serious danger of coming Formula 1
Great respect for Stoner, but he aint a great rider, and nether is Caparossi.
If the other teams dont sort the bikes and tyres out for next year I think Melandri will win every race !

I agree, i would love to know where Stoner would put Rossi poor yamaha every race and i know it would be farther back in my opinion.

What a BORING race again.Rossi do the right thing and get yama to dump them tyres and then sort out a new bike.Stoner has been blessed with an amazing set up this season and will win it for sure but he is not amazing rider,he just got a good bike(like nicky hayden).
Motogp is very quickly getting less and less exciting.I think we need a 1 tyre system and that would sort alot of the problems with the Gp this season.
