January testing discussion

The quota from the Doc is for the average person... athletes heal much faster.

I was trying not to dislike the bloke so much this year, but he makes it pretty difficult not to.

Hes just being honest... Nicky has his own style which is unique to him and not maybe helpful to anybody else, Pedrosa's isn't either to a lesser extent.

I gave up trying to like Pedrosa.

ASSUMING, its one fast lap on qualis. Whats with the question mark. You think Nicky isn't a good rider? Maybe they made some changes to the bike etc. Dovi, end of the pack all testing long.
Hopper, midpack ALL testing, I'm a fan though

Do you know him or something? I think that he has been on a MOTOGP bike for awhile, maybe not the 800cc bike

From Crash.net-

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Just as he had done at November's test, Nicky Hayden pulled a record-breaking qualifying lap out of the bag to finish the January Sepang outing on top - and also set his best ever race-tyre lap - but on a bike he doesn't expect to race.

I never said he wasn't a good rider, I don't think his style gets on with the 800 and it will not matter what bike he is on I think he will struggle. When he starts doing better with race rubber I will give him credit.

And you give hopper credit? With his ego and pockets full of money I do not think he will be fast enough, and will be the 4th place hero just like every other year. If he can stop being a head case which let him get some podiums last year, he might have a good shot....

Since you seem to know so much about Hopper's personal life, please enlighten me. Is this the same guy that sponsors a kid out of his own pockets so he can race? Yeah, sounds like a real ego maniac. And how many times did he finish infront of Hayden last year?

I'm not sure why you chose to take issue with a little praise of Hayden being at the top of a test for a moment and calling for an unproven replacement (Dovi). The praise was rather modest. In fact lets check out what I said:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Jan 23 2008, 10:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Nice. Hayden gets a moment in the sun. ... Touché Hopkins.

Notice, nobody is crowning anybody just yet. The "touche" for Hopkins is a praise also (not sure if you realize this). Neither Hayden nor Hopkins for that matter was very impressive last year. Conceivably, Hopkins had the better overall package. I like them both, and defend their talent despite many poor showings. It’s rather strange to pit these guys against each other. I'm wondering where that comes from? Last year I remember somebody here said they dislike each other and were rivals, but I have yet to see anything credible. I've met Hopkins, and he seemed a down to Earth guy with a smoking hot chick. If his employers and sponsors have decided to give him lots of money, I don't see it as a fault but rather a success of his to negotiate (or hire someone) to get him paid well. I don't take that against him or inflate my expectations as some do. The fact is one is a world champion and the other still has yet to win a race. But I believe both of them have above average talent this among already outstanding racers, perhaps top five given the support and package they need.

The last time i checked,Nicky has more podiums, more wins and that little thing called a MOTO GP title
What exactly has Hopper done.If not for some extremely bad luck,Hayden would have finished ahead of Hopper last year.I will make you a bet right now on who finishes higher this year and i will make it fair.If either rider misses a race due to injury or illness, bets off.Name your price

Yes, Nicky does have a championship and more wins/podiums. He also has a bike and tire package that was miles ahead of what Hopkins had. I would love to see how bad Hayden would have finished if he was on the suzuki Hopkins had. My guess is he would have been back in the AMA by now.

is that pic related to the doc telling dani how to rehab his hand? If so, I reckon that the scale's a little off!

I assume your an American with your favorites being Hopper and Edwards. If thats the case, did you ever go to the races when they were in the AMA.If you did, you would know why Hayden is on the Honda and Hopper is on the Suzuki. Its not a secret,Hayden is simply a better rider.Nicky won an AMA superbike title against this competition

Winning a grand total of one race. Before you get excited, that 6th place guy is Aaron Gobert,Not Anthony. He beat Buckmaster [who had 3-4 wins] who is a decent rider by 1 point only because of bad luck on Buckmasters partt.Dont get me wrong,Hopper is a good rider but it is still a mystery in the States why he was chosen so early to go GP.Bottom line is,he cant wear Nicky Haydens jock strap

is that pic related to the doc telling dani how to rehab his hand? If so, I reckon that the scale's a little off!

Is that a sketch drawing of a dildo next to that hand? That seems a strange way of rehabbing a hand. But then again we are talking about a .........

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (hopper_fan @ Jan 24 2008, 03:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Yes, Nicky does have a championship and more wins/podiums. He also has a bike and tire package that was miles ahead of what Hopkins had. I would love to see how bad Hayden would have finished if he was on the suzuki Hopkins had. My guess is he would have been back in the AMA by now.
Dude, what is your problem? If you intended to argue that Hopkins is a better rider than Hayden, surely by now he would have had more than two podiums this year to show for it. Granted, the Suzukis were .... previous years. But do you really think a Rossi, Pedrosa, Stoner would have taken a 03-06 Suzuki to a title? Assuming you say no (and I would agree) then why try and use this as the standard? What Povol is saying is if we are to compare the guys when they were in the AMA under similar conditions when Hopkins was in FX, then one could make a case that Hayden was indeed the better rider; even then that has its problems. If ever we could compare the two, it might have been 07, when clearly the Suzuki was up to the task; but then again the Honda was not. Assuming winning a race was out of reach because the Stoner/Ducati/Bstone combo was so dominant, then al least we should have seen plenty of more podiums. But really, it seems to me you are splitting hairs here.

Certainly they are both talented, and really I find it difficult to argue against Hopkins who has never been on a competitive package until 07. You may say, Hayden has, but then again so has Edwards. And look at his results. We are talking about a guy who won two WSBK championships, and we are to believe he suddenly forgot how to ride a bike up front? It seems to me there is more to say about their status on the teams, Hayden/Edwards to account for some of their results if you are going to bring in any deficiency of package into the equation. Hopkins was a prodigy; this is why he was brought up so young and early. Without the benefit of going through the feeder series that is 125/250s and having been relegated to a sub par package, I could see (and its frustrating to me too) that you think he hasn't had a far shake. But why take it out on Hayden? Why pit yourself and your opinion against somebody who has had an outstanding career, for which by virtue of it has been dealt a pretty good opportunity with Honda, the brand that he has been loyal (to a fault) and has provided spectacular national and world championships for?

All this frustration spawned by a one-day show at the top of a test? Seems rather out of touch. If you are pissed, you should be at Suzuki for wasting his above average talent (among outstanding riders) and not throwing everything toward a winning endeavor. It seems perhaps, he finally got tired of this .... and went to Kawasaki. It remains to be seen if team green will pan out, but at least he won’t be relegated to mid pack with the same .... bikes that he ran for several years. He’s made a change, if he remain at mid pack, then at least he can say he gave Suzuki a chance to make good and now he’s trying to find success elsewhere. I never thought I’d find a person to pit Hopkins to Hayden, put here it is of sorts. I hope its not as bad as you make it seem and maybe its an over reaction. But it seems to me you intended to pit Michael against Gabriel (for lack of a better analogy, both are arch angels).

Last testing session = Nicky on top by a hair

On the last day, Hayden will get to ditch the chronically underpowered and explosive 2008 lump and swap it for last years latest spec. It will be clinic in fine riding.

Ha. I have to congratulate myself for making the easiest prediction all year. The only thing I underestimated was the severity of the stomping (mainly b/c Pedro wasn't around to take his whoooping like a man). Now if I could just get the races right.

Keep your chin up Nicky, at some point you'll get to quit riding the random Honda parts bin.

If Hopper gets a podium hes shocked so much its like a win to him

Suzuki are capable of winning races.... Vermeulen proved it in his first season.

Maybe Vermeulen is potentially better than Hopper.... so why are we comparing Hayden?

Congrats Lex, well done. Now lets keep that crystal ball moving the planets just right for some race wins this year, eh.

May not mean much when it comes to the actual races but ......... theres some interesting ones there ...... eg.

Lorenzo improved the most in the 3 days

Rossi better watch out for Lorenzo!! I think that garage may provide the best "entertainment later in 08.

Capi proves the Duc wasn't that great
Capi and Vermy ..... make the Suzuki look so predictable

Hopkins ....... is on a Kawasaki ...... ??

Melandri, Elias, and Guintoli ..... oh dear ( I am starting to think Stoner has a deathwish and thats what it takes to ride a Duc.
<
<
..... no ok really I think it is just not the bike for everyone and indeed is like a brumby stallion ...... ie. its the best horse out there ...... but it takes someone "different" to ride it.
<
<

How is it that Edwards can allways do this!!?? yet come race time
<

Hayden can pull the occasional "fast one", but he needs to work out how to pull the "occasional fast one" more often ......... he can be the fastest one out there ..... but why not for a race distance??

Is Pedrosa going to let me down!!??

Edit: ...d'oh the spacing don't work
