Aaron Yates? Help me out here, Ooost. Why is this name familiar to me and why have I got a feeling I should agree with you?

You probably remember him from the 2003 Laguna Seca WSB round. He was a wildcard who in turn two (although it's the first actual corner on the course) of race one dove up the inside braking way later than he had any business doing. His actions caused a pile up taking out The Hodge, Xaus, Chili, Laconi and put Eric Bostrom on the shelf for the remainder of the year. Keep in mind, EBoz held the championship lead by a somewhat reasonable margin over GSX-R 1000 mounted Mat Mladin. EBoz was riding the underpowered Kawasaki ZX-7RR at the time and the biggest of the horsepower hungry tracks (Daytona, Road America and Brainerd) were already behind them. What could have been.

just seen race 1 and 2 again, would it be fair 2 say mat looked 2 b having tyre issues? u can understand it in race 2 but didnt look as safe as ben later in the races? i think mat will be flying again very soon

Good news for the ole one man army. I like Mladin, I feel sorry for him because he left Australia too early in his career, and we get absolutely nothing on the AMA here excpt when Suzuki brag in their ads that theye taken another championship. So Mladin dosen`t really have a lot of fans here, and although I wouldn`t know in the states, I bet his attitude hasnt won him many popularity contests, but that`s what I like about him. No .........

Yeah he doesn't have too many fans here. Personally I admire his no ........ attitude but I think he takes it too far. He takes what other riders say out of context and uses it to tear them apart in the media. The other thing that gets to me about him is he is supposed to be this "racer's racer," in the sense that he knows sht can happen on track and it happens and you need to deal with it. But at Barber during qualy, The Hodge aborted a fast lap because he got baulked by a slower rider or just flat out messed it up and was coming back to the pits off the pace and apparently was on the race line for a moment and that was reason enough for Mladin to give Hodgson "a hand gesture" and proceed to follow him to the pits and explain the rules to Hodgson as if he were some 18 year old rook from the middle of nowhere. Garbage like that doesn't win Mat any fans here, Mladin's record is impressive but so is Hodgson's.

To talk down to someone with that good of a record is shameful, he does the same thing with Miguel Duhamel on a nearly regular basis. He picks fights with fan favorites here in the states, Duhamel, Eric Bostrom, Ben Bostrom, Neil Hodgson and Kurtis Roberts. Although for the record, Kurtis Roberts gave Mladin a mouthful back in 2003 followed up a couple victories, that seemed to shut Mat up.

And if one of the Haydens or Bostroms came here and competed in our domestic championship, Ooost? (Which they wouldn't because ours is merely a place to sort out talent from old farts and rich kids, and send that talent off to tackle world championships) Winning almost everything and being an ....... to boot? What would your opinion of them be? Would the homer in you come out? Just like it has in me with Mladin?

I'm sure it would. I'm not saying I don't like Mladin because it's hard to dislike someone who works very hard, harder than anyone in the series and gets it done no excuses. I just grow tired of him creating drama in the paddock for motivation. It gets old very quick and it's very transparent that he is causing all the drama when he picks on the nice guys of the paddock like the Bostroms and The Hodge.

Foggy and Mladin.... Intresting comparison Frosty. Not Biaggi, though. All he does is whinge, most of the time he`s full of ..... Mladin and Fogarty are proper, hard as nails, no ........ ......... Biaggi`s a sissy compared to them. I wonder if Mladin will retire and run an AMA team and become the Foggy of the AMA? He`s allready got his own team dosen`t he? Some Mladin Imports Gixxer or somthing.

yep he does. matt mladin motorsports. this is his 2nd year as team owner in ama. running superstock class. he's got a suzuki dealership back there in oz.

Ben Spies did the double again this weekend at Fontana. Spies now leads Mladin in the championship by 19 points, 182 to 163. Is Spies the next man to add his name to the list of riders who have beaten Mladin in his prime for the title? He would be in pretty elite company seeing as the last guy who did it now leads the world championship... By winning his fourth consecutive race, Spies joins a list of only eight riders who have ever accomplished such a feat: Wayne Rainey, Fred Merkel, Kevin Schwantz, Doug Chandler, Miguel Duhamel, Anthony Gobert, Mat Mladin, and Nicky Hayden. I think he will be the next American to cross the pond and enter world championship competition. Hopefully in grand prix racing and not superbikes.

i agree Ooost. i think he'll be the next 1.... & yes gp's please

It could have been Stauffer, Ooost
<

Yeah but if Spies manages to lift the title from Mladin will he land on a 800cc bike next year? Don`t think so. Not that quickly anyway.
<
Honda America should offer that to their riders, kinda like a wild west outlaw poster WANTED: AMA SBK Trophy and Mat Mladin, dead or alive, Last seen riding together into the sunset on a K5 REWARD: A motoGP factory ride.

Spies picked up another double at Sears Point/Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California this past weekend. That marks his sixth consecutive victory, which ties him for the all time AMA Superbike record with Miguel Duhamel who did the feat in 1995. Spies now leads Mladin by 30 points in the standings heading into Road America next weekend, which I will be attending. The rest of the field continues to look mediocre in comparison with the only bright spot being the ever improving Hondas and Kawasaki(s).

Eric Bostrom won his second consecutive Formula Xtreme race beating a last lap last turn attempt from Jason Disalvo. Disalvo still leads the championship but more important than points is the solid lineup Yamaha have developed. EBoz took multiple victories on the 999R last year despite it not being up to speed in AMA trim, as evident by BBoz's dismal 2006 and The Hogde's lack of results this year and relative decency last year. With Yamaha next to certainly returning to Superbike in 2007, they look very strong with a returned to form Eric Bostrom, ace Jason Disalvo and new Supersport Championship leader Jamie Hacking.

Roger Hayden missed the last Supersport round at Fontana because of his broken leg which required a plate and eight screws and ended his streak of five straight victories and lost his championship lead. Rog showed up for the Sears Point round and managed to qualify 10th despite using crutches to get around the pits. Rog's recent bad luck changed Sunday afternoon when the rain began to fall in the final moments of the Superbike race. Motorcycles do not ride in the rain at Sears Point, Roger Hayden saved himself some valuable points and now has a two week break before the series returns to action in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

I leave for Road America early Friday morning of race weekend. I won't have any internet connection but I will do all I can to post pictures and fill you all in when I return home on Sunday.

Come on Mladin! Its just Spies!

Just another bit of Yankee cannon fodder for your Yoshi K6. Rossi n Mladin.... somthings seriously afoot this year

I blame Honda....

You can blame Honda all you want in MotoGP but in AMA Superbike they are nowhere near being in the equation. Spies and Mladin are all alone at the front and will be for the entire season, barring the possibility of miracle rides at Laguna Seca from Laguna specialist Ben Bostrom and Laguna WSB podium man Neil Hogdson. Other than that, the Ducatis, Kawasakis, Hondas and the third Suzuki of Aaron Yates are all well off the pace and fighting for the title of best of the rest.

someone finally knockin him off his stump!

At this point I'm starting to wonder if Mladin is finally slowing down or if Spies is this good.
